Caterham Fireblade with supercharger is amazing...one of the best handling cars I have...shame I can't race it except at track days.

So many surprises, that I'll just list my latest surprise, which is...

The Volkswagen New Beetle RSi '00

Yeah, I know there are many more powerful, and more sexy, but, this car with R3 tires and an engine upgrade, sounds & handles very sweetly, with beautifully controllable drift.
Its just fun to drive, when you want a break from the powerful Race cars.

Good: 67' Camero, with this car fully blown out with the stage 2 weight reduction and a super charger with all the work done under the hood and a good set of tires backed by a awsome suspension. This car can dominate the american class.......of course a little Nitrous will help your chances. The RUF is a awsome car to drive it can hug corners like a mutha. I love driving this car on curvy courses.

Bad: The V-12 Caddilac, The gears are so damn slow when it comes to shifting. I only drive with manual transmissions the automatic takes the feel out of the game. The Lancer Evo VII does not handle as well as it did in GT3, I beat almost 50% of GT3 with the Lancer Evo VII when I bought the Evo and decked out the engine, then took it to the track I was highly disappointed.

P.S.
Domestics Rule!

Every single Civic , gotta love those Type-R's

All the lower range cars are great. I enjoy driving 200-300hp range cars more than high powered ones

There's no question the biggest suprise for me has been the Suzuki GSX-R/4. It's light (under 700 kg), handles like an F1 car, looks good with a wing, is an a-spec beast and that rev happy Hayabusa engine is awesome. The amount of races you can enter (and win) with this thing is sick. Fully modded I easily won the Japan GT Championship (JGTC) with 200 a-spec pts. for every race.

My pick for biggest surprise: '54 vette. Tuned out, it barely does 120. But it stops and turns on a dime. I used it to win the vette challenge and the 1000! miles race. KILLED 'EM.

Biggest disappointment: Shelby cobra. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent car. But i remember when it held the world record for 0-60... and this ain't that car.

As for the Japanese/American debate: Face reality. When was the last time you bought ANY american car factory standard and drag raced it against a factory standard Japanese or German car??? There's a reason why most cars on the Autobahn aren't american made...! You have to modify the hell out of most of them to get them to perform at the same standard. America is one of the few countries represented in GT4 that sees driving as a means to and end, and not an end unto itself. It shows in their standards for auto production.

And yes, I'm STILL a proud American.

good - nismo skyline R-tune. looks good in red, fun to drive. I just love it!

bad - Ford GT, even if it's fully decked out, driving it sure is pure misery :( I'd love to love it, but I just can't. sorry.
Toyota Supra 2.5 Twin Turbo 90' - awful awful awful...

Some fun cars to drive:

Lotus elan '62
Chevrolet corvette convertible '54
Shelby Mustang G.T. 350R ('65)
Pescarolo PlayStation C60/Judd Race Car ('04)
BMW M3 CSL ('03)
Amuse S2000 R1 ('04)
Audi A4 Touring Car ('04)
Nissan Silvia 240RS (S110) ('83)
Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione ('91)

Most of these have really good handling, the mustang and the lancia amazing motor sound. Try'em out!

I know what you mean. I bought the late 80s 3.0 supra, upgraded it to the max and boy will that thing need a lot of suspension tweaking to fix it.

GT4 marks the 4th time in a row that the dohc vtec Hondas sound absolutely WRONG. I'm not complaining that they left out the vtec switchover. It's not just that. The motor just sounds like crap in the game. My B16 in my CRX sounds completely different. Stock it did. Modified it does. Wrong wrong wrong.

When you just want wicked, tail-happy, drift ridden drive on GT4 do people in general stick sports tyres on their car (to offer lower grip levels) or use racing tyres? I find I always kit my cars out with racing tyres to win races more easily most of the time, but when I just want to mess about I never change down to sports tyres. Am I missing out? (please name some good cars for fun driving if you have any brilliant ones)

My surprise of the game (kind of) has been the Mazda MX-5. It is just so fun to throw round corners and get the back end out whenever possible...even on racing tyres. I knew this is a brilliantly balanced sports car already however.

The biggest let down so far for me has been the Lotus Elise. Its meant to be more of a fun drive than most cars (light and nimble, Lotus suspension) but it just seemed sluggish and unwilling to drift at all. I might try tuning it up a bit tonight actually. I'm sure it has undiscovered potential. I went for the 111R '04 Elise by the way.

Ive got a question.. and i couldnt find an appropriate thread to post in, so guess that this one will do.. When you open the Driving Park icon from the main menu, theres a picture as the background of a 2004/2005 Honda civic RS sedan. Ive browsed thrugh many car lists and havent found that model anywheres, WHY ARE THEY TEASING US~!! one of my personal favorite cars... just out of grasp..

Does anyone know i you can get this car or not?

I too want to sing the praises of the Suzuki GSX-R/4. Wonderful little car. Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned much but the Chapperal 2J is a BEAST. Only three gears, turns on a dime and tire wear is very minimal. If you're struggling with GTWC or GT All-Stars try this car (NO pits on R1's) and you won't be dissapointed.

The Good:

I was really suprised with 2 cars:

- TVR V8S
- BMW 330i

I didn't even know the V8S existed before I played this game. I knew of racing spec Triumphs which had the Rover V8 in them, up to 350HP in SCCA. It handles great and usually brings a bunch of A spec points for being older

As for the 330i, I'm only suprised by it because I used to think the thing looked god awful, that Chris Bangle had yet again ruined on of my favorite cars. However, after driving it in stock and in my tuned form, it has become my favorite car to take laps in at the Nurburgring.

The Bad:

Yeah, the Ford GT disappointed me, So does the new Mustang GT though only because in the Laguna Seca Endurance race, it always eats up the front tires too fast. Its that darn front strut suspension. The game is realistic in that it accuratly simulates the excesive front end dive under braking in the Mustang GT.

Le Mans 24hr. . . . Ok, so I just finished the 24hr II race with my black 787B, I thought the plane w/ trailing smoke at the beginning of the race was cool, but after 7 hours and no night time transition I was pissed. I mean really, would it take that much to make the damn race transition into night time like on the route 5 map. That said, I am still thrilled that the Nurburgring and Lemans are both in this game.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, probably my biggest disappointment in this game is that they include the '82 Audi Quattro, but no its Rally Version. Please, the Audi Quattro Rally car set the AWD rally car trend. You think that maybe they coulda given up a few slots of skylines, rx7s, evos, etc. Maybe it made the european version, i don't know. I play US version. Perhaps Audi just didn't want it in the game, I am amazed.

i agree, there are too many skylines in the game. RX-7's and Evo's are minimal, its just theres like 20 different variants of the R34 Skyline. who the **** cares about the special colour one?!?!? :dunce:

and when i saw the quattro i was hoping for the rally version. glad they had the Lancia Stratos to make up for it! :dopey:

I love the sound of a stock s500 race car shifting :)

The biggest let down so far for me has been the Lotus Elise.

I dunno. The elise 111R was one of the first I bought. But you need to change ALOT of the settings and add a wing to really bring it to life. Adjust the downforce and braking for starters. The best part is it's versitility. Using only this and a Subaru Impreza, I ran the majority of the early races and won no problems. I even used it in the GT all stars and won everything but sarthe (the long straight-aways killed me).

Unless you're planning on running against a 787 or a Minolta, it'll git-r-done!

What surprised me the most was the Lotus Elise Sport 190. It didn't look like much on paper, but it was reasonably fast.

And it has supurb grip! I was driving on Tokyo course (can't remeber name) and I made the slightest turn and it had a slight bit of over steer!

Great car. Have it in bright red. Won me the Lotus Elise Trophy

OCD Collector
Use a wing to adjust the down force. It'll correct that steering problem quite readily.
Don't need to. That slight bit of over steer is excellent for rounding high speed corners. Besides, having a wind on the back of the car makes it look bad. Car looks are very important to me.

lol. One for looks, one for life. 2 memory cards. One for collectin' 'em, on for tearing the hell outta 'em! lol

besides, black goes well with british racing green.

i most suprised to find the patent motor wagen i mean who wants to drive a car that can only go 12mph?
another suprise was the Fiat 500F and Panda who wants to drive a bag of s**t?

Yeah, i was somewhat suprised that they didn't include the real BMW 330i

The E46 330i w? PP (Performance Package)

although i love the 330i in the game to do laps around the nurg ring , its still ugly and overpriced in real life. The Infiniti G35 does just as good of a job at what it does, but cost less with much more HP.

BMW Infiniti
330i G35
255HP v 298HP
$38,000 $31,500

The rest of the automotive world is catching up. BMWs are no longer the unique high priced cars that they have always been. The are still high priced, as quality costs money. But the new Japanese cars do everything the German cars can do, and for a lot less money. In addition, Japanese cars are more reliable than many new German vehicles.

Thus Endith My Rant

Good: Nurburgring, Le Mans, lots of european cars. TVR Speed Six.

Bad: 2 useless Mercedes carriages (why PD, Why?), excessive amounts of (Mazda) prototypes, automatic saving after just having bought a car (no test drive), AI-drivers, an finally: Where's the old mini ?

I'd have to add that, I didn't like le Mans and the Ring until I started usign a DFP.

Good:
2000 AMG Touring Car (win from Legend of Silver Arrow).
M3 Touring Car (win from Schwarzwald Liga A).
Any JGTC car, especially the Supras (currently driving ESSO Ultraflow).
W12 Nardo (haven't gotten to Extreme Hall yet, but this thing blew me away).
ASL Arta Garayia (took it for a spin on El Cpaitan - awesome).

Bad:
HKS "Genki Hyper" Silvia (bought and modified especially for Tuning Cup, total waste of money, it was PATHETIC).
RUF "Yellow Bird" (not as bad as such, but a nightmare to drive).

The Pazoz Esperante is a surprise mainly because it was a tank/P.O.C. in GT3. It's still not worth the money, but at least it is driveable in GT4.

I was REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY looking Forward to driving the BMW F1.. but for me its a bit sluggish i was dissapointed.

Althought i was pleastly suprised of how good the GT40 conecpt was i thought to myself ahh another GT40 quite high powered and not very good handling but i love it its my 2nd Fav Car so far i have dun 40% :D
