I Renown I
Seems I start this thread on every forum I've been to. :p

This will be the modeling thread for all things mecha anime: Escaflowne, MS Gundam, The Big O, Code Gaess, etc, etc...

I'll start off with a couple of my own that I've taken recently.

dscn0917.jpg

Got a bit of a group photo here: From R to L - HY2M "Glorious Series" 1/60 scale MS-07 Gouf, Perfect Grade (PG) 1/60 RX-78GP01 Gundam Zephyranthes,
High Grade Universal Century (HGUC) 1/144 MRX-009 Psyco Gundam, and the PG MBF-P02 Gundam Astay Red Frame.

dscn0915.jpg

Red Frame posing with the Gerbera-Straight Katana.

dscn0918.jpg

Tiger-Pierce Katana (Special Edition)

dscn0921.jpg

Tiger-Pierce, Beam Rifle, and Shield

dscn0920.jpg

Tiger-Pierce unsheathed. (Yes, it's sharp.)

dscn0914w.jpg

Everyone in the battle-ready stance, and someone sticking out just a wee bit...with an axe. I wonder who it could be?

dscn0923.jpg

The GP01 standing tall, and no, your eyes do not deceive you his torso armor is indeed a different color. The white armor is for his conversion armor...more on that later.

dscn0941.jpg

GP01 pointing toward it's conversion pieces. It'll come together soon enough.

dscn0942.jpg

GP01 pointing towards it last conversion part, and the most important - the FF-XII-Fb Core Fighter (Full Vernian "Full Vernier") capable of 7.96G.

dscn0953v.jpg

Left arm stripped, showing the skeletal structure beneath. Giving a thumbs up as well

dscn0955.jpg

Closer look at the exposed left arm. Yes, almost everything you see was snipped from a tree, sanded and pieced together. One arm alone takes about 2-3 hours,
if you're meticulous with the detail, if not you're still spending 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

dscn0963.jpg

The conversion (upgrade) pieces come together, and what you're seeing here is the RX-78GP01-Fb. The same Zephyranthes just faster, more agile, and
more kick ass. Standing aside to the GP01's FF-XII Core Fighter which is capable of 5.28G.

dscn0965.jpg

Back-side view. Look at the size of those four thrusters.

dscn1001.jpg

MBF-P02 Standing tall.

dscn1005.jpg

Back-side view aside an Ellusionist "Shadow Masters" deck of cards, yes, I do card magic.

dscn1006.jpg

Putting on a little Bruce Lee action.

dscn1007.jpg

Ready to slice before you even contemplate blinking.

dscn1020.jpg

Front side of the box. Sexy, isn't it?

dscn1025.jpg

Back side.

dscn1026.jpg

Second, third and a bit of the forth page of the construction manual showing the runners (trees). I forget how many runners and pieces there are in
total, and yes, that is an LED on page 3, three metal joints, and some screws.

dscn1027a.jpg

Pages 6 and 7 of the construction manual which goes through the construction of the right and left legs.

dscn1029.jpg

The Special Parts box and the post (with mini construction...instructions on back for the Tiger-Pierce Katana and the display stand for both swords).
Also you get transparent pieces for most of the body. Only apart of the Initial Release version which I was lucky enough to purchase the very last one, several
hours after it was released. It went like hotcakes.

dscn1041.jpg

Exo-skeletal view of the Astray without any armor on, and Jason wanted to get some photo time as well. Remember that mystery person sticking a
foot and axe in earlier? Yeah, 'twas him.

dscn1051.jpg

Underside of the right foot revealing the rubber sole grips that were affixed manually.

All of the pictures I have as of now, at least until I get my gosh darn camera back from my aunt. Hope something becomes of the thread, and more importantly, hope you'll enjoy the pictures and possibly the captions as much as I do putting/writing them up. :sly:

I should have picked up some Perfect Grade kits, the articulation is wonderful. That red frame is very cool. I especially like your GP01, I've always had a thing for that suit. Ever since I had first watched 0083, I instantly thought it was much cooler than anything from the A.C. universe. I mean really whats more feasible, a indestructible suit that turns into a jet, or the GP01? Not saying 40 foot robots are necessarily feasible, because it would be really hard for them move with the agility their animated with due to their extreme weight. But yeah I've always thought the U.C. universe to be more true to life, as impossible as it would be, or not who knows where we will be in 30-60 years haha.

Anyways. GP01 = 👍👍

Like I said I like the U.C. universe, the 08th Mobile Suit team in particular seems the most lifelike to me. None of the suits are indestructible. No super mind powers, or weird stuff like that. I liked the RX-79[G] a lot so I got a Master Grade kit something like 8-9 years ago. It sat in it's red, white and blue scheme forever, early this year I decided to have a go at refurbishing it.

I was bored day dreaming one day and thought what it would be like if we used Mobile Suits instead of tanks and whatnot in Iraq or Afghanistan. Weird I know, whatever, this is what I came up with. A battle hardened, weather beaten RX-79[G]. I made some minor modifications, painted and weathered with bullet holes and pastels for grease and surface rust. Who knows, maybe it had came ashore on the coast and pushed inland, never having time to be serviced properly. So here it is, now that I've declared I'm a major dork. I've never put so much work into a model, it still is not where I wanted it to be, I decided to leave well enough alone though.

Stunning work. 👍👍

I'd feel embarrassed posting my MG 1/100 GPo3 and RX-178. :dunce: I didn't have anything close to that level of attention to detail when I assembled them both six years ago.

Do either of you paint battletech miniatures? They're far smaller, at 1/287 scale.

I'm Oogled by the Sinaju. Excellent work. :)

If that was directed at me as well, no I've never painted anything other than that MG RX-79[G]. Why not post up your MG models? I have plenty I'm not that proud of, like an Exia that just didn't turn out as I hoped. I didn't paint that though, I sanded it lightly to remove the shine.

That Sinanju is great, too clean for my taste, but you sure did a great job on it. Was it a Sazabi that you modded, or is it an actual suit? Either way, great job! I have seams I should have filled on my RX-79, I just never decided to go for it, mainly in the chest and the shoulder armor, and where I removed the V antenna.

Edit: NM it's from Unicorn.

That was directed at anyone. I got distracted by the shininess of the canary.

I like the effect that the dirtying gave your RX-79. Did you achieve the weathering by watering down a black acrylic, or was it a different technique?

My Camera is far too low of a quality to even get my snowboard captured without catastrophic image failure. :ouch:

It was crushed black, gray, and brown pastels. A bit of silver marker rubbed the same way for paint chipping. I rubbed them in with either a Q-Tip or my finger.

My camera severely lacks as well in the photo department, or maybe it's my photo skills that lack. So many blurry pictures. I need something better than a point and shoot.

Hrm. Interesting technique. I guess it would work better for the smoother surface of the ABS than the watery stuff I use to weather my pewter minis.

Your camera makes mine quiver in the face of its magnificence.

Thanks. The build took me about 2 1/2 months. It is pretty much straight out of the box except for removing the seam lines in the shoulders. It was painted using Tamiya spray cans and the decals are from a bunch of different sources carefully pieced together by yours truly. This gunpla thing is quite fun. I have been doing it for about 7 months now.

You've all inspired me to save up my money and possibly buy a PG Zaku II. But, I don't know how long that'll take, as I've got bigger fish to fry in the form of a 2007 Subaru Legacy, which I'll be buying within the next seven days if all goes to plan.

I wonder what a yellow and orange Zaku would look like. Would that be too tacky? Maybe I'll trg it on a master grade kit first.

I just had the thought of doing the Endless Waltz Heavyarms Kai in that metallic yellow scheme. Would that work out?

If I understand correctly, it's a base of a gray primer, then metallic gold, and then a yellow?

I had no idea this thread took off not too long ago.

Where the hell was I?

Wonderful Ground Combat and Sinaju pics 👍

Wouldn't take you too long. About 2-3 days for the standard build to be completed but if you're anal about detailing (like some of us are :p) it'll take you a month or two to get everything worked out properly.

Not bad at all, especially considering SEED Destiny has already addressed a similar color scheme.

I was wondering because my custom battletech unit has an orange and gray paint scheme. There was a battletech mini from a long time ago that looked like a Zaku I. They're rarer than hen's teeth. :irked:

I know how that goes, believe me.

Bump

Placeholder for eventual PG 00-Raiser construction log.

It's actually arrived a day early!

But I don't have a camera anymore. :guilty:

EDIT: So, until I can pick up another camera over the weekend or possibly before then here's the lowdown on the goods:

- 62 runners (parts haven't been and won't counted until the model is completed)

- GN Drive x 2

- 52-page construction manual (front to back)

- Sticker sheet

- Water-slide sticker sheet

- "Press on" Decal sheet

- 2 CR2032 batteries

- 2 LR41 batteries

- LED module for the head

- 8 springs

- 4 phillips head screws and 4 nuts (marked as M2.0 x 10 and M2.0, respectively)

- The actual model as a whole (00 Gundam and the 0-Raiser) is separated into two boxes. Box A is for the construction of the 00 Gundam. Box B is for the construction of the 0-Raiser, and a smaller box accommodates both the GN Drives.

The Initial Release includes an additional box for a two-way display stand for both 00 and the 0-Raiser, or just the 00-Raiser and a ticket for the Clear Body Parts (which you have to place a separate order for). Not too sure if I'm going to pay the extra money for something I'd actually have to wait for in order to assemble it as I go, as the transparent armor can't be added after the model is completed.

Just so you know, if you want the clear parts you have to go to Bandai's website, input the code and select your payment method. You have to have a japanese mailing address in order to do this. Which means you have to know japanese and use japanese characters when inputting the address. The clear parts are 3,500 yen plus shipping. If you C.O.D. to a japanese address it costs 4,340 yen in total. You can use credit card and it comes to less. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the page on Bandai's site which states that once you put the clear parts on you can't remove them without risking damage to the pieces. So the clear parts aren't interchangeable with the normal armour parts. It is one or the other. How do I know all this? It is all part of my job man.. All part of my job.

I love my job.

I know all of this, foo'. :p

Seriously though, I don't have to do any of that as I've ordered from HLJ and I have the whole proxy order thing setup. All I'd have to do is fill it out and be on my way. Should I actually want to go through with the whole thing.

Speaking of which, what is your job and you need to get me in on it.

My answer to your question is bolded in your entry that I have quoted for this post.

hehe.

Bandai is our underground rail system's latest sponsor and their using Gundam as their theme. You can get Gundam tickets, Gundam electronic travel cards and Gundam card holders etc. Hong Kong people are crazy for all things Japanime and also mad collectors so put two and two together and you have quite an effective marketing scheme. I will try and take some pics next time I see something Gundam/MTR related. Meanwhile:

If anyone wants something as a collectible let me know and we may be able to come to some arrangement.

You son-of-a-somebody. 👍

I really, really do not like you, and I never will.

Not too fond of you either.

Hah! That's the second time I have annoyed you in as many days :sly:

Seriously though, Hong Kong is AMAZING for Gundam type stuff. They literally have entire shops dedicated to the hobby and you can buy the pro-built models off the shelf, but they cost a bomb. My new office is a few blocks from the epicentre of Hong Kong Gundamania, I may take a stroll down there this arvo and take a few pics for you if you want.

That would be fantastic! 👍

The states are so boring. We don't get any of this at all, the closest thing I can remember that's been somewhat recent was the screening of F91 here (NY) and in San Francisco. Other than that it's a "If you've never heard of MS Gundam before, that's just too bad."

Yeah, while Japan has MSG monuments.

life-size-gundam-statue.png

Transformers is beyond lame in comparison to Gundam. I imagine they could have made two great live action MSG movies in place of the Transformer movies. But they could not have strayed from the original storyline, just make it seem realistic as possible. Not end up anything like G-Savior either... :barf:

I bet Gundam would have a larger following if that happened...

That's great. Is it 'life' size?

Actually, I have often thought about starting a little shipping business on the side for difficult to get hold of stuff like this; Gundam, Kyosho Mini-Z, Choro-Q, Fujimi/Aoshima/Tamiya model kits, etc. but unfortunately I don't think there's really a high enough demand to make it worthwhile even as a hobby and what with all the big internet players like Ebay and Amazon, etc. it's difficult to do independently.

It's gone now. They disassembled it a couple of months ago. Luckily, I was able to get down there and check it out before the end of the promo. I also picked up a limited edition 1/144 HGUC Odaiba Gundam kit that I now know I will not have time to assemble due to family priorities.

Anyone interested in a special limited edition 1/144 HGUC Odaiba Gundam?

OK, so I went and took some pics as promised. Will post up later when I find a quick way to resize them.
