T500 or G27, with rig?

The T500 isn't too strong for a wooden stand, but you need some knowledge on how to make the wooden structure a bit more rigid. Which isn't that hard to do.
Heck, my grandpa build me a TV/Audio cabinet and I can easily stand on it. I just won't jump on it because of the poor construction of the wheels under it. lol

There are many joints for example you could use to make a solid construction. That in combination with good glue and screws or nails.
My guess is that if people can build houses out of wood, they should be able to build a solid rig too. ;)

Some joints: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodworking_joints
Thanks!

Good to know. I have never owned or tried a T500 and all the reviews mentioned that you need a strong setup when using the T500.

I only meant to say that I thought that a simple wooden wheel stand is not going to be strong enough for the T500 when using the full FFB strenght.

This would definitely be strong enough for the T500. If I start gaming again, I'd not construct something as big as this anymore:

I was suggesting something more like the wheel stand pro

Which is what I would like. I'm not sure about, the one on Amazon (see one of my previous posts in this thread). It's cheaper, than the WSP, but is it really better?

Same with the wheel, which apparently should arrive today. Again, out of my own curiosity, what would everybody choose; better wheel or a better rig?

Edit:I would really like to know, what everybody here would choose. I know that I have to make the decision, for myself, but simply out of curiosity. I've realised, that the reason for my doubt, could be whether or not if I'll be using the wheel, after a longer period. - Is the T500 going to be, supported in newer games?

You're over thinking this ! Just unbox the T500 when it arrives , mount it in a rig and enjoy it !!

The impression people get from reading about T500 problems on the net , is that most of them fail and have to be returned to TM. If everyone that had NO problems with their wheel also posted , I'm sure that we'd all have a much more balanced view.

I vote for the T500. Ive owned a V2 for almost 2 years and apart from replacing the fan (it was still working , just noisy) it has never broken down. A while ago , I thought it had a big problem so I bought a G27 to keep me racing while I figured out what to do* and I can honestly say the Logitech wheel was far from impressive , quite a disappointment in fact. Given the difference in price , that fair enough too.

*turned out to be the power cord wasn't pushed all the way in to the PSU :dopey:

Better wheel definitely!

I guess, you're right. Every wheel can't of course be flawless, - the same with Logitech. Someone has to get a broken one. I believe I can return it to Amazon France (please correct me if I'm wrong, as I do not read French that well!) inside the warranty period (2 years?).
- The thing is, I don't own a "proper" rig, that I can mount it to :nervous:.

Better wheel definitely!

So, a better wheel with a worse rig is better than the opposite?

You need a good sturdy cockpit, mount, rig or whatever. But if I was in your place, I'd definitley spend more money on the wheel/pedals than on an expensive "rig".

A cockpit, wheel stand or whatever of low quality is not desired. You'll get frustrated and will not be a pleasant experience.
You can make your own rig and save money. The cockpit I made (see pictures in previous post) didn't cost that much and was very sturdy. But it was too big. I started building it without making plans or imagine myself how it should look like.

Yes you can ship the wheel back to amazon if the wheel is still in (under) warranty.

I agree with Smokey - though because of limited space, I need a smaller rig.

Edit: I've just received the T500. And god it's heavy!

Yes... if it works as it's supposed to.

Thanks to everybody for helping me out, answering my questions and actually just to read what I've written. Thank you !

It will! From what I've heard about it, it's a very good wheel. According to a guy visiting insidesimracing and Darin, it feels almost the same as the ECCI 7000 FFB wheel.

Wow... isn't that a ~$10000 wheel?

I've been an owner of a t500rs for just over 24hrs, but have owned a G27 for a long time. I was nervous too, about the cost and all, but theres no question to me that the new wheel/pedals are better, so the cost becomes more relative; I dont bother trying to calculate exactly how many times better the new hardware is, and if I'm getting every dime out of my new purchase. But I was racing around Richmond in a nascar game in the middle of the night, last night, and I had a moment of what I guess I can call 'purity',
and now me and my new t500 are imprinted with each other :)

Beneath the surface is where all the durable enjoyment is, anyway.

Well, it looks like I've got a V4 box, a V1 wheel and a V1 pedal set...

What kind of springs are in the pedals? Compression or torsion?

T500 is a better wheel and has better pedals no doubt, but it's twice the price of a G27. I was in the same predicament as you also but I opted for the G27. The reason being I'm new to the hobby of Sim Racing and if it is something short lived due to the lack of decent games or whatever then I can always flog the wheel.

At the moment I'm enjoying Raceroom which came out on Steam and AC should hopefully release soon. The wheel I'm impressed with but then I don't have anything to compare it too.

As I wanted a fold away stand as I don't have the room for a cockpit and I needed a solution which allowed my setup to be folded away I opted for the GT Omega. It doesn't have that silly bar in the middle which I would have constantly bashed and it looks decent. If you order it from their website they do next day delivery (UK mainland via UPS)

I should be receiving mine tomorrow so I'll let you know how well it's constructed etc. But feature wise it almost had everything I wanted except a keyboard and mouse tray, but I can figure something out.

Here is the link: http://www.gtomegaracing.com/shop/wheel-stand

I'm not much of an expert in the area but I hope it helps.

Yep basically for the price of the Thrustmaster and all of its equipment and a extra warranty.l you can get a G27 with a seat. I just don't see or understand why it is worth the money

This is the stuff that's hard to explain to people. Until you spend time with one , you won't understand.

:)

You said yourself you dont see or understand how its worth the money.

The subjective world contains the ultimate values, but for us now, it seems like a gray area where people can be 'all over the place' with their preferences. Plus our equipment is not the same from person to person; for example some people barely taste their food while others detect tiny variations all the time they are eating. If you dont see or understand the worth of an expensive wheel like the t500 then more power to you. But I dont go to wine forums and say 'why the devil do you waste all that money on grape-water?'

Personally I dont spend money on street clothes very much. On the other hand my motorcycle helmet cost $700. Theres no right or wrong. We assign value into things and then we extract value out of them. And I am sure you can see and understand that!

Sorry to go off topic but if you don't mind me asking... Arai? :)

Arai RX-7 Corsair Colin Edwards limited edition Valencia ..its the same paint job as used to celebrate Yamahas 50th at the Laguna Seca Moto GP, but not in the yellow and black. Found it on Ebay, but it shipped out of Japan. Its wild.

Good man.

An Arai has saved my life twice now...

People say "You paid WHAT???" Well, my brain is priceless to me.

My first accident my head bounced off a ladies trunk at about 35 mph, I flew about 25 feet and landed on my head. Minor concussion. I'd say they work ;)

(I realize other less expensive helmets would have most likely worked as well)
