Well, then compression 👍. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure, about it.

AFAIK, the tension torsion was the first version and some of the springs snapped after a while.

It really hard to see, but I think you're right. I can't get a photo, sadly.

You said yourself you dont see or understand how its worth the money.

The subjective world contains the ultimate values, but for us now, it seems like a gray area where people can be 'all over the place' with their preferences. Plus our equipment is not the same from person to person; for example some people barely taste their food while others detect tiny variations all the time they are eating. If you dont see or understand the worth of an expensive wheel like the t500 then more power to you. But I dont go to wine forums and say 'why the devil do you waste all that money on grape-water?'

Personally I dont spend money on street clothes very much. On the other hand my motorcycle helmet cost $700. Theres no right or wrong. We assign value into things and then we extract value out of them. And I am sure you can see and understand that!

Some people are naturally talented, some need all the help they can get. If you put Narain Karthikeyan in a Red Bull F1 car, he'll still be ****. So as I alluded to before if you're looking to try out Sim Racing then the G27 is a fantastic wheel for half the price of a Thrustmaster.

The OP has made his purchase now so it doesn't matter now.

Tension Torsion

Do a Google image search of tension spring and torsion spring

:)

Also I recall the compression springs are in the later versions of the wheel as it was the torsion springs that were breaking. I could be wrong ..... but all my V2 torsion springs have broken and been replaced.

Since I haven't broken the plastic, I can still return it, if needed, I guess.

Edit: I had just a go with the T500... I have no other words than "amazing".

Right, torsion!

That's what I said, read my post again. ;)

What should I do, if the fan's on and I don't want to play anymore?

What should I do, if the fan's on and I don't want to play anymore?

Let it spin for a while, it's better for the electronics. The fan goes on/off around 34 degrees celcius. The temperature goes up to 38 at most.

At least let it spin for about 5-10 minutes so that most of the initial heat build up is gone. You should see the grey of the motor in the right top mesh. Just feel if it's still too hot for your conscious to turn it off or not.

Question

If you always turn down the FFB, does it take longer for the fan to start working?

The less current runs through the motor and the motor driver, the less heat builds up. So yeah, I suppose it would take longer.

I have to say that my Geforce GTX480 makes a whole lot more noise though. It's like a vacuum cleaner. lol :P

The fan in my T500 is only a bit louder than the one in my PlayStation... So I can live with it. I must say I did expect a bit more resistance, in GT5 with FFB on 10. Is it normal that the brake makes a little click, when pressed down?

A click? Mine doesn't click. Maybe you can make a video of it so others might recognize it?
Also I haven't played GT5 in ages either, but the G27 is far weaker in FFB strength. So I think you made the right choice with picking the T500 if this feels already too weak.

I would urge you to update the firmware to V40 via your pc/laptop though. This could improve the GT5 experience for you as it changes how FFB signals are handled by the wheel and so on.

I made a video, of the click... It might be the spring, but I'm not sure.

You certainly made the right choice I hear. btw as for resistance try disabling power steering if you haven´t already. Other then that I believe the ffb in GT 5 is the same as on PC. You should run on 5 or perhaps 6 for max ffb. 10 you just enhance the low level ffb forces but not max output. Can give the impression of more resistance of course but you get less ffb information.

Also lowering the ffb levels certainly does make the wheel run cooler. And the fan stops spinning faster. Running 60 % it generally take 45 minutes or so after a long session for it to stop running. I just let it run the course and leave the room in general as my computer is quite loud on it´s own anyway. But doing night racing and having this can be a bit frustrating as I need to keep the power on my PC to keep the fan running.

I'll try lowering the FFB, and possibly do the firmware update.

That click is one of the springs moving. (or THE spring I should say)

No. I suggest adding my bushing mod anyhow. The click will be much less noticeable then.

+1. I suggest starting with 1 bushing, then try 2 and see which you prefer :)

I agree with your 'Really?' ..but you need to say it in the Jerry Seinfeld voice.
I think Dean J was saying his review was posted, and his review is, "I must admit; I had my doubts for this, but now I can say to those who questions if they should get it: get it! Simply amazing, compared to a DFGT."
(the following with the Seinfeld voice-)
Really Dean J? Really? 8 pages of thread, and thats your compresensive summary? Really?? You spent more time asking about the kind of cardboard the wheel ships in than talking about how it works! Really?? It took longer to read your post about a brake squeak than about the $599 you just spent! Really?? I havent felt such an anti climax since Fanatecs new product for 2013 turned out to be a shorter warranty! Really Dean J?? :)

just kidding. i only have had mine for a couple of days too.
