If im doing an endurance race and want to keep tyre to a minimum other than smooth driving would turning up TC help preserve tyres on very high torque racing cars mainly Le-man group C and LMP.

All depends on your driving. Lots of sliding wears them faster--TC on or not. I recommend it off or at minimum to keep you on the track--like the NRing.

Depends on how well you drive. If you slide all over the place it likely will but if you dont it will be constantly making minor corrections for you likely wearing them faster.

Well will see shortly as just starting the Nurburgring 24 hour race again in 908 with racing soft oil change ABS 1 TC 1.

Wow good luck. How many days you doing it over?

What do you mean "how many days?". Surely you are not pausing the game for hours or days on end...yikes! (YLOD or game freeze here I come!)

I ran my B Spec 24s at around 6 pm, so when I got back from work the next day it's done and I only lose one evening of racing time. Kinda sux now since I have no need for B Spec XP at level 40, tho.

A spec and not doing well. Went for the smooth option not hitting the kirbstones lapping around 8 mins got ot end of 3rd lap lookek at tyre wear gauge and it appeared to have gone down 70% so thought YES 4 lap runs, Eeerrrr no, come of the race curcuit onto the road section having just got past the 787B for 1st place and tyre wear gauge dropped to nearly nothing :scared::scared: Anyway proceeded with a lot of caution but lost over 3 mins to the leader. now going like the proverbial c..t to catch up on 3 strategy, last lap 7:34 but still in 6 place.

Well 2 hours 35 mins into the race and finnaly got behind the 787, had a major smash at over 200mph overtaking the Australian ford caught the back end and spun then flipped and rolled on the sectio nearly half way round in the valley, so lost more time. Now stopping at 3 laps for tyres but only need 55 litres fuel.

IIRC, in GT4, (I don't know if this is the same in GT5) it would make the tire wear worse. I think it would have to do with the fact that there is an "electronic nanny" that had to stop the wheelspin. I saw on Welsh-Fury's (or somebody else's) race report, that he observed that the tire wear improved.

For my driving style, TC definately helps lower tire wear.
In the beginning, with fresh tires, you'll notice no difference.
But when tires are 50-75% used, THAT is where you gain the time from driving with TC.

I was in lap 4, halfway the track, then my tires got REALLY bad... every corner red rear wheels, even with 25% throttle.. horrible. Because I was losing grip , it got much much worse much much faster. Lost like 60 seconds that last lap.

I also tried with TC on. Again, halfway lap 4 I noticed the tires were gone but then I still had to drive the last 3 minutes. This time th TC managed to keep the rears from spinning too bad, kept the car under control to make the pits. Lost 20-30 seconds that last lap.

Also: if you're driving you 3rd 4 hour stint... you're gonna be glad you turned TC on.
You'll be tired (BORED in my case) and concentration is gone. If you forget to easy on the throttle you'll burn the rear tires and voila, lap is gone or worse: you have to pit early.

But all this shows how the GT5 is realistic.

You can always find a answer in videogames.

Traction Control turned ON is a "must". At least for me...

Well did 4 hours 40 mins for 1 stint and just in nthe lead keep swapping places with the 787 as he pits every 4 laps. Strange thing is when i come out from tyre change i dont get a realistic lap time time as it records your pit time as well and im sure when i push hard the 1st lap is my quickest, 2nd lap can also be very quick but 1 mistake will show on the grip available, the 3rd can be as fast if no previuos mistakes but again when pushing hard the tyres have gone but the tyre gauge still shows 30 to 40 %. Acurate lap times can only come from the 2nd/middle lap as no influence from pitting times, late last night i was lapping around 7:52 but the fastest lap was 7,30 336.
Now here is another question, when i play in the practice section i can constistantly lap at 7:30 whilst sat 15ft from tv on the sofa, not the best place for fast laps, now im sure the physics in the race are different [tyre wear and fuel load] so should be faster in race as fuel depletes till tyres are gone but this isnt the case most laps sat on sofa are between 7:40 and 8:00 mins. if i move to my racing postion on the floor 5ft from tv in race fast lap was 7:30.336 Strange that i have to sit on floor to match practice room laps, could it be tired or are the physics different as when we race online ?. Well im now going to start another shift for 3 hours then got to go out.

ps race start was very cloudy but as i reached 3 hour the sun was up and slowly setting, awsome graphics. No rain yet.

For some reason I can't wait to start the 24 hour races, though I'm not sure when I'll find the time. Maybe I'll invest in some dry ice and sit my PS3 on it while I leave it turned on for 12 days straight.

So is the general consensus that TCS is a good idea?

Right 11 hours in and leading by 1 minute but very hard work, NO rain yet and pitch black [why did i leave driving line line off :dunce: ] not a good decision.
What i can say is that in the dry daytime the AI are lapping at apr 8 mins in the 787B now thay does'nt change in the dead of night when dry either still doing 8 min laps. My main problem or weakness is the extremely fast long sweeping bends in the valley half way round, holding full throttle and trying to read the road without driving line in the dark with dip beam lights only [main beam just point up at satilites and planes maybe because of suspension set lower at rear than front posibly but not to sure] so im losing time here unless i sit on floor close to tv [ uncomfortable ] Cant see me holding onto lead as getting tyred now.
I can fully understand why PD opted to used group C and LMP in this race now as the concentration needed to keep these cars at such high speeds is immense IMO and especialy at night to be able to stay in front of the AI, if for examle they used all GT spec cars as in real life it would be a much easier race to do as you dont reach these high speeds for as long a period. iI did a fair amount of night driving online and in practice in various cars but a few laps here and there dont prepare you for constant hours of darkness.
All that being said im really enjoying this its far more of a challange than the Le-man 24hr at least on that race you have long straits you can relax on but 73 corners on the ring its diferent to say the least.
Green Hell, no its great but wait till you try the black Hell, reckon at least another 4 or 5 hours of darkness left.
