so u saying all this time ive been waititng for a Ferrari and it ownt be in it ?
thats not fair.

I seen it in production vids and trailers and pics and demos, how cna it be cut when most peoples idea of a dream car is Ferrari its like having Aston Martin without Mercedes, u just cant have it without both.

Someone please tell me that Ferrari is in , cos without the stalion it wont be awesome.

It doesnt have the "Stallion" in it or the bikes. I dont get what you are saying about the Aston Martins and Mercedes though.
1 WEEK TO GO!!!

I'm actually surprised it looks as good as it does. I don't know if I should be saying this or not, but the beta was downright ugly. That was one reason I bought a X360, was so I could play TDU with good graphics instead of the crap I was seeing on the PS2.

Then again, that particular beta was designed to test the online functionality. You could only play the game online, you couldn't play the disc offline at all. They did say the graphics would improve, but I'm impressed with how much they did improve.

Really? One week to go?! Jesus, I need to get this game then.

^Yes :)
_____________

I played Underground 2, and hired Battlefield 2 to test our online connectivity, and they worked out very well. Things are looking ship-shape for TDU 👍

Ive probably said this before, but im liking the look of TDU on PS2 because it instantly reminds me of Hot Pursuit 2.... Now test drive is everything which NFS is not! I want supercars, nice long roads and scenery not this underground stuff!

Its a definite buy for me if the reviews are good.

Agreed. Hot Pursuit 2 is the best NFS for the PS2, and I can't remember who has my copy of the game... :grumpy:

I hereby confirm you saw two pics with cockpit view on ps2 version.

i've been waiting months for this game. they kept delaying its release....im definetly getting it for PC because the PS2 version wont have Ferraris, Maserati's or one of the bike makes.... which is quite annoying. :) already been thinking about my dream TDU garage :dopey:

the TDU site says the game will come out in the UK on PS2, PC and PSP on March 16th....i think. but loads of other sites selling the games have different dates. Amazon were saying it would be released March 2nd :S

"Game" the site that had told me thousands of times it would be out March the 3rd has now sent me this.....
"As you may already be aware, the UK release date for Test Drive Unlimited has changed to 16-Mar-2007. Changes to release dates are relatively common in the videogames industry and are unfortunately beyond our control."
Grrrr not again!

already been thinking about my dream TDU garage :dopey:
lol… As organised as I am. I'll be very happy to own both the Lamborghini Murcielago (maybe in yellow) and the Vanquish S (in Silver). Mmm, and a cosy little home near the beach, with a 2-4 port garage. :sly:

Edit: I hope it's nowhere near as easy as Need for Speed Carbon was. I don't want to earn my dream car after just 1-2 days. 1-2 months is more my thing :)

So has it been confirmed for sure that the PS2 version will have the photomode?

So when is this exactly coming out on the PS2? Anyone here gonna make a GTP club?

Good news!

Damnit, I have to wait till March 20?! Would have been nice to have had this before March break.....

Thats because you live in America I am in the UK where it is out the 3rd of March in the UK. And there is no bikes on the PS2, PSP versions but there is bikes on the PC and XBOX one,

There are no bikes in the PS2 and PSP versions for size reasons. They just couldn't do it.
The game will be presented slightly differently from the 360 version and PC version. The most noticable difference will be the lack of achievements. In the PS2 version you are awarded master points for covering distance, sliding, etc. The other difference you will notice is the clubs. In the PS2/PSP version the clubs have members and presidents, of which you must race.

What I said above can actually be verified by searching around the web, which also meant it's no longer covered under the NDA the beta testers signed so I'm all good and safe.

The cool thing is that when you race them, look at their names. You'll see Madskillz, BigBlazer, S31Ender, and a bunch of others. As that last name you can see, they corrispond to the names of some of the closed Beta tester's names. It was a little thank you that Melbourne House did for some of us.

The PS2 screens with the cockpit are accurate. And you will even be able to open and close your window, similar to the 360 version. even cooler is that the sound of your engine will change slightly due to the wind noise.
For those of you who think the graphics suck and the like. Please keep in mind
1 You are comparing it to a console that's more than 5 years newer. Now it's nothing for the 360 or todays Core2Duo PC systems, but for the PS2 this is huge. The cars interiors are modelled INTO the car models.....so is the driver. It's not just an animation overlay. Even when you are in the out of the car view, your "driver", steering wheel, and dashboard gauges are all still working inside even though you aren't looking. Zoom into the car and you can move your "head" around and look at it all.......MODELLED.......GT4 ....(or any other PS2 racing game for that matter) couldn't do that if they tried. The others are all animated overlays...not a part of the model and working in realtime.
2 You are comparing it with it's seamless online/offline transitions............it's doing the SAME thing XBOX Live is doing....except it isn't a network like Live.......Live is dedicated and it's sole purpose is to provide that type of experience, Sony's online is not, and yet the game STILL achieves that goal. There is no more of that crappy..."dude, I'll set up a race are you connected yet?" junk......you simply drive to the same location. DONE there you are....connected, ready to go. Enter the race and off you go.
3 THE REALLY REALLY BIG ONE. They've crammed in THOUSANDS of miles of roads with NO load times other than the initial load. That means the game is loading on the fly......in a game THIS HUGE, on a system THAT OLD! It is perhaps, one of the largest game environments on the PS2 and it's ALL available on the fly with NO loading. Imagine playing a Final Fantasy game with no loading or cutscenes and no battle transitions.......just one smooth world to run around..........now do it in cars at 150+.........lol. This game makes the Grand Theft Auto environments look TINY....

But no, seriously, this game is NOT about collecting cars......it is a little, but you will most likely be in your favorite car by the end of 2 days less than a week. WELL before if you play a lot. However, it will take MONTHS to explore EVERY road of the game. This game is about cruising and hanging out with friends, not GT4 car collecting.

I participated in the TDU PC open beta as well. The PC version and the Xbox 360 version are almost identical. Graphics are very good, you can plug in a xbox 360 USB controller to the computer and you won't tell the difference. The downside I noticed the the PC version was it's connectivity. It was very easy to connect to the game world, but to get a lot of people connecting to each other was tricky. I'm in an online fleet/clan (48+strong) that play several games online. All of us are semi-pros when it comes to router setup and the like, we have no issues connecting to each other. However, almost a third of us couldn't connect to someone else in the fleet. No manner of router adjusting would fix that. It was something wrong with the game side of things. It's just a tricky game to connect. That's the only downside to the PC version. The 360 version's downside is...of course, Xbox Live Gold's 50-60 dollar a year price tag.

The PS2 version has neither of these problems.

So you have a trade off in this case.

So again, is the 360 and PC versions better? Yes. But if you don't have a 1500 dollar or more gaming system (unless you build one yourself) or a 400 dollar 360 plus the 50 per year XBOX LIVE, but you have a PS2, pick this game up. You'll love it. And VERY soon you'll notice when I say that given the limitations of the aging PS2 and the lack of a EVERY game widespread online network like LIVE, Melboure House did an incredible and ground breaking job of building this game.

Great post, S31Ender. Hope to see you online sometime when this game comes out.:)

Great post, S31Ender. Hope to see you online sometime when this game comes out.:)

Thank you. Unfortunately things work out funny. There are some minor things (not bad....just features) that I can't talk about right now. When I CAN talk about them.......the game will have been released and you'll see for yourself! lol. Poor me.

I am currently running the 360 version. My XBOX LIVE name is......S31Ender.........go figure. Feel free to look me up if anyone wants to, I have no friends on it except for a couple of PS2TDU beta testers.
Of course, I'll have the PS2 version of the game....I'm in the freakin' game so it's not like I can just NOT get it.....I HAVE to get it. lol. I'm just excited to get my butt handed to myself by myself...........*dizzy from that thought*

But we'll all find out on the 20th now won't we?

I've played the 360 version and wouldn't buy the PS2 one purely because it has been downgraded and won't look as good as the one on the 360.

In saying that though, i think Just Cause on the original Xbox looks a lot better/awesomer than TDU on the 360. The lighting effects, sunsets and even scenery all look way better in JC, TDU's scenery isn't anywhere near varied enough which is what put me off the game after a few hours - enviroments just look all the same.

Should have taken a leaf out of Rockstars book and had all different types of environments like GTA: San Andreas, but thats what you get for choosing a real location i suppose.

Hopefully TDU2 improves on a LOT of things.

Every tree in JC looks all the same, the cars are just horrible in comparison, the sound sucks (although the soundtrack is pretty good for an original soundtrack) While the sunsets look good, they aimed for a more unrealistic look, TDU aims to be more true. The physics were pretty bad in the car handling, way to arcade. With all that being said, I really enjoyed playing JC.

The only redeeming factor I see in that previous post was that you admitted the limitation of a real-life local.
I'll add to that. It's a real life local less than 600 square miles. What did you expect? Desert, mountain, tundra, beach, plain, and farmland all in one?
TDU pushed the limits of the PS2 system, it designed a seamless transition from single player to multiplayer and back again and got it to work on 4 different systems. It's sheer size alone makes it a feat. (although not for PC.....some of those games are HUGE..WoW anyone?). I'm not too worried about a little bit of repetitiveness in the building textures after all that.

True, there are things that can be improved for TDU2......but isn't that true with all games?
Graphically the game is stunning for what it is....not matter what system you play it on. But if you are one of the few who don't see that....attempt to overlook that fault and see what an absolutely stellar game it is underneath. And with the 360 now coming into it's dig down and REALLY start to push the system era, you'll see even better with the next one. Of course, you wouldn't if you didn't have a game like TDU to start the ball rolling.

(I'm not a fanboy. Too many are blinded in today's day by advertisements, graphical wizardry, and hype that many fail to see that there are innovative games out there today, you just need to look for them.
I fought to open people's eyes TDU, Guildwars (what they did for a non-paytoplay game is awesome), Star Trek Legacy(lots of explaining, because it really does deserve MOST of the negative comments it gets) and many others.

By the way, talking about innovative games. Don't hurt me for saying it, but you should all check out Viva Pinata.

Awesome post there S31Ender 👍 , and thanks for the extra information.

I'm still a little concerned about how my game (for PS2) will connect with other players. I did a bandwidth speed test, and the maximum speed for my DSL was '206.1 kilobits per second'. I have no bloody idea if that will effect TDU's online mode, but does it matter?

Every tree in JC looks all the same,
They are repeditive, but i guess the look/design of them are more what i prefer.

The cars are just horrible in comparison,
I agree, the car selection just didn't interest me and found no vehicles i like.

While the sunsets look good, they aimed for a more unrealistic look,
I think they are unrealistic, but also look incredibly awesome.

The physics were pretty bad in the car handling, way to arcade.
Couldn't agree more, i never got totally used to the handling i don't think.

With all that being said, I really enjoyed playing JC.
Yeah its not a bad game. Lots of buildings have ladders etc so you can climb up and explore the roof tops, the game has huge mountains - some with radio anntenna's which you can parachute off, you can swim underwater for forever - i was swimming along the ocean floor for i guess close to twenty minutes or so one time when swimming back from an offshore oil platform thingy i had parachuted to.
But in the end i just lost interest in it, like i seem to be doing with most games i play lately. I think i'm going off gaming to a small degree. :(

It's a real life local less than 600 square miles. What did you expect? Desert, mountain, tundra, beach, plain, and farmland all in one?
No, not from a tropical island. BUT. The South Island of New Zealand, for example, changes quite drastically in appearance as you drive across it - and i'd say you could easily fit the whole South Island onto the big island on TDU.

I live Dunedin, Otago. The environment is varied; lots of hills, lots of beaches and oceanside cliffs etc, a few flat farmland areas, forestry plantations (some reasonably big) and a few lakes and rivers.

One hour or so west, in Lawrence the area is extremely hilly (not mountainous) and most is either farmland, native bush or forest.

(i used to live not far from this bridge, at Lake Mahinerangi)

Another hour or two west and you are in Central Otago, Alexandra. This place is often the hottest area in the country, the scenery is mainly brown during summer with much less green than other places. There are a few plains, which are surrounded in hills completely covered in tussock and billions of rocks.

Another hour or so west and you are in Queenstown. This place is usually quite green, has a couple of huge lakes beside it and near it, is surrounded in really high mountains over 1,000m high and there are a few forest/native bush areas too.

A few more hours west and you are in Fiordland/Milford Sound - the wettest place in the whole of New Zealand. I think it rains there 340 days (or more?) of the year and is completely surrounded by native bush (of which i don't believe it has all been explored), huge lakes, consisting of mainly seawater i think, the fifth highest waterfall in the world, the steepest mountain top to sea floor 'cliff/slope' on the planet (i believe) and more.

falls%20in%20Milford%20Sound%202.jpg

Back to Dunedin again, about an hour and a half north you come apon the largest flat area/plains in New Zealand, the Canterbury Plains. They are extremely flat and i think predominantly made up of farmland.

Neither of these pics are a fair representation, it is actually far larger (just look at a satellite pic ofthe South Island and you can clearly see it).

So this sort of environment that TDU can't do due to its location is easily doable if they choose the right island.

More pics

So they should seriously consider basing TDU2 in New Zealand. ;)
