You can do it, using an IM or chat program on your computer, or with a text-enabled phone.

Still might impair your driving however.

USB Keyboards do work on PS3 but while racing you'd still have to press start and go to the text messege window.

I use my mic to talk to my pals. However, when we just fool around while racing and Im wayyyyy ahead, I may as well pause to write something. During serious racing though, texting is a bad idea, just wait till race is over.

Anyway, one of my big pet peeves is if someone gets disconnected during a race, rejoins the room before the race is over, and starts inputting all sorts of txt chat complaints while the rest of the grid is still racing. Worse, if there winds up being 2 spectators who carry on an animated txt conversation while everyone else races.

But actual racers txt chatting while racing? I can't see a need for that option!
If you want a sloppy challenge, limit the car selection to the stock Shelby Cobra from the Recommended Garage, limit the tires to comfort medium, prohibit SRF & ABS, turn Boost on High, & select a random Mt Aso Tarmac track.
There's no reason to txt chat while racing to make for a chaos festival.

These are £10 in Game at the moment and on Amazon. Just clips on to the top of your controller and is brilliant. Don't have to take your hands off the controller to type a quick message. All the letter buttons also work as an optical trackpad for a mouse on internet pages.

Whats the problem with driving and txting? I do it all the time! Sometimes i have to use my feet to steer.
