The AI in this game is TERRIBLE. I just tried doing some level 19 GT championship with my mclaren and it was fcukin impossible. EVERY time I tried to pass them on the nurburgring I would hit them and spin out of control and they would just drive away like nothing happened. Then the ****ing cars that were behind me would just smash right into me totally forgetting to slow down or go around. I swear to god this game has the most pathetic and ****ing retarded AI in any racing game PERIOD. MUCH worse than any other GT game. All they do is stick to their stupid driving line and completely ignore you trying to pass them or if your in their way.

Kaz says damage isnt important because you shouldnt be trying to smash into other cars to pass them... But what about when the stupid AI does that?

And the career mode is so incredibly flawed. You have to spend LOADS of money on ONE car that you only need for ONE race just to beat it, otherwise your **** out of luck. Not to mention you have to level up just to get that car which takes forever for anyone past level 20. But the problem with that is there isnt enough events, so you have to constantly repeat the same damn events over and over, just to get one freakin car, so you can race it one freakin time, just to beat that one freakin event, only to realize after that event, you have to ****ing level up and unlock the next one event.

^ You really should watch your language.

It's sad the most enjoyable part of the game was supposedly the special events but the scripted AI just doesn't make it.

I know, I was so excited when I saw the challenge list leading up to the release date but PD made an absolute meal of it. The best one is the rally challenge because you don't have to interact with the AI. But then you're still stuck with the fact that the stages are rubbish.

Comeoooon patch

Language was edited out.

I have yet to repeat a single event after I get gold. I'm at level 23. Just because YOU don't know how to race and beat the AI using a car while it is still stock then it's your problem, not the games. The only one that I can think of that requires any REAL grinding, is for the Formula Gran Turismo so that you can get the F1 car. Since you have to get it from the used car lot.

FGT World Champ -> Nurburging GP -> AI & Last Chicane.

Enjoy the specatcle.

(Didn't notice how old this thread was sorry)

The AI has problems yes, but if you started treating the AI like you would a human opponent that you have a degree of respect for, and only tried to overtake them in appropriate places, you will find it's a lot better than you think.

I have, when not doing the Extreme American Indy race, been doing the Extreme European Road race for a slightly less boring albeit slower grind.

Up until the last day or so it has been fine. Due to not wanting to waste time I use a suitably overpowered car and go off up the left hand side overtaking everything in sight.

For the last day or so some idiot in an Audi S3 (who gives the AI a bad name!) has sometimes been in front of me and weaves from side to side making it a somewhat bumpy passage past the other cars. Why has he not appeared before to annoy me I wonder? I breathe a huge sigh of relief when there is no sign of him on the grid.

So, to summarise: Some people think the AI drives really badly, some people think it drives really well and some people think it is a mixed affair. So, in essence, this proves the AI is just like any random spread of normal drivers - some are good, some are bad and most are OK. Which, really, is the best complement you can pay to any AI - that it is human 👍 :)

Sounds to me like your AI is the problem, not theirs!

I think part of the problem that people are having dealing with the AI's apparent idiocy is that, unlike previous GT games, the width of the screen in Bumper-Cam is not the width of the car. I am starting to adjust now but many times to date I have clipped the AI by accident when thinking I had at least an inch to spare .

The really big problems that people have highlighted is that the consequences of contact are hugely more severe for the player than they are for the AI. If there is even a whiff of BTCC style 'muscular' driving you are spinning out and heading nose first into the barrier.

An even playing field is all people want (for those of us who want to pick cars comparable to the AI rides for a race rather than a drive).

Some people are missing the point.

The AI is intentionally aggressive so to keep the player on their toes...

But if you drive well there is no problem. Give them a bit of racing room. Don't go crazy into braking areas. My only problems are when you brake-test them at 200mph.

As for license tests, the AI is intentionally odd. There's a test at Grand Valley where a white Murcielago will ALWAYS slide wildly side to side coming into turn 1 on the 2nd lap. With License Tests, it's more collision detection than anything else.

As for NASCAR at Daytona, I tried the 10 lap race and was pleasently surprised by the AI. They follow you, bump you and test you. I had a wild moment on the 7th lap when I got a tap and ended up sideways. Next thing I know - 1x2x3x4x4 into turn 1. Did it all end in tears? No. Give them room. I did get spun out at the last turn on the last lap but that was me cutting the guy alongside me up...

I do get the whole "They squarely pushed down the back straight" thing sometimes. Heck, I love dishing it back. The AI's main issue is that they always think they are Touring Car and NASCAR racing. You wouldn't thump someone in the rear under braking for a hairpin in a Mclaren F1, maybe just acceptable in a Touring car.

My final point is that people sound as tough they want Mr Perfect all the time. Real driver's make mistakes, so why should some AI be spotless. Where's the challenge?

Oh, and the AI is much improved over GT4. I can now actually take my racing line without being steered into at the straight at Le Mans...

I honestly really like the AI on this game especially on nascar.. I actually find it fun when they are aggressive and blocking me.

To me it will be waaay too boring if the AI's are nicer than what in gt5.

Have you guys already played the Formula GT championship? There's a race (i don't remeber which of them) where ALL the drivers spin out on a exit of a hard corner on ALL laps!

A few come off the the Nurb GP track. Just before the start finish straight. Glad it's out of the way. I'll never go back to that series.

But how do you think I got gold on Jeff Gordon's Advanced School? 1st race? :D

Ofc, B-Spec can suck it... It's so bad :(. Can't even win a Supercar Nostalgia Championship in a 740BHP powered Buick. Wth???

The only time they've punted me was on the NASCAR daytona race. I had to do that race over 5 times, and when I won I had to stay on the low line for the entire race to avoid the AI. Elsewhere the AI is a bit rubberbandy but good. I just did the Super GT Fuji race and had a nice scrap with a Raybrig NSX. :)

My take... AI - Artificial Incompetance

I noticed the Horn usage post on the first page. I can't remember if the Peugeot 908 Racer being a track car has such a thing, I was doing my Extreme Euro Rome Money Grind race and was approaching the last corner "fairly" rapidly. There is this Peugeot 206 Turbo 16 in front and it veers to the left into the green area to left of the kerb seemingly to give me space. I know I do occasionally inadvertantly hit the horn (never noticed a panic reaction from the AI) but I am not sure I was able to in the 908 (I will check). If I did not then why did the AI veer off to the left? I have never before found an AI with self-preservation instinct.
