Would be nice to get a Herbie's comemorative/homage challenge where gold gives you Herbie's famous livery number 53

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but for me, the Beetle has a special place in my heart. A place that will never be replaced with a different car. All hail to the Beetle. Without it, who knows what automobiles would be like today.

Drop it as much as possible and give it huge camber in the rear and none in the front.

I'm a big VW/Audi nut myself but I have to say the new premium air cooled Beetle doesn't interest me one bit. There's already a standard version of the car in the game as is.

My thoughts exactly, the love for such a hideous, under performing junk of a car is mind boggling to me. To each their own i suppose. I know in the states this car symbolizes smelly hippies and a chick car. Maybe its different elsewhere?

A true car lover appreciates all cars for what they are. The Beetle was truly revolutionary. It brought motoring to the masses, for the first time the average worker could afford a car. The Beetle should really be applauded for what it is.

Aside from a Premium XJR-9 (very nice), that Beetle got me excited the most strangely enough.
Love that I'll be driving an Aventador and V12 Vantage, etc. (and I will be hugely enjoying that) but seeing a Premium Beetle just made my day.
Oh, and I will tune and customize the hell out of them, and no, I'm not even a big Volkswagen fan.
Nice one Kaz. :)

There will be some great pictures of the beetle now.
Im equally as happy to get the Mini Countryman!!

Yes its not a racer, or even a remotely sporty car , but its still cool.
And it paves way for the 2012 MINI WRC Car.

That has to be the saddest thing I've read today. :(

That's fine. You may see it as such, but my emotional attachment to the vehicle is really understandable considering the back story.

As I just mentioned, by attachment to the VW Bug is more then its horsepower and performance.

What you said is the saddest thing I've read this week. Didn't you read the great story maxpontiac told us?

Respect the car and people stories with it. All of you that only likes overpowered, supersport machines should be playing something else, as Gran Turismo since day 1, is about ALL kinds of cars. New and old, powerful or everyday.

I appreciate you acknowledging my post. The 66 Bug will always have a special place in my heart. Yes, it's cheesey of me, but the car represents great memories to my wife and I.

If people understand that memories is what the 1966 Bug represents to some, it should all make sense.

Indeed. I can remember when I was dating my wife to be, and we went and watched a movie. Afterwards, we had to sit there and let the engine warm up being how cold it was. We spent many a moment in that car. It's something that even after 19 years of marriage I'll never forget.:)

I respect folks connections with it 100% no doubt, but the car itself...nay no love for the "peoples car". I dont like what it stood for.

What was that?

Maybe the fact that the original was paid for by the Nazis and a propaganda tool of Adolf Hitler. Despite its origins it was a revolutionary automobile and deserves a Premium representation in the game. Maybe they will give us a Premium Model T in the future.

Fair enough,i suppose it is equal to say the first hybrid car as far as importance.

Now tell that does not look fun :grumpy:

If there will be a Model T, there definately should be a Benz Patent-Motorwagen, 'cause, 'ya know, us germans built the first gasoline-powered car.

Also, I think that this is one good utensile Hitler was "paying for". He also built the Autobahn in East Germany and these still hold strong, being made out of beton. Not saying Hitler was good; these kind of "positive inputs" never exceed the horrifiying things he did.

I thought it was paid for by the German people initially. Besides, only one was ever "delivered" under the Nazis... guess who got that one. The car's (Porsche) design was adapted into the Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen during the war, interestingly enough...
Crucially, practically all production came after Allied occupation of Germany.

KdF nonsense aside, there's nothing wrong with the idea of "a car for the people", which was essentially a mildly socialist perversion of the already established idea of "a car for everybody". In that latter respect, it's no different in concept to the Model T before it, and I agree that the Model T deserves recognition (as does the Austin Seven, for many of the same reasons.)

In short, I would argue that the "Beetle" is more a symbol of the times after the Second-World War, not before and certainly not during.

Keep a stock one, buy another and check the exhaust, aero parts, rims and stance, then of coruse do a lovely photo set of it.
