The almighty VW Beetle 1200 '66, what are you going to do first?

No RUFs or Porsches for you then. I take it you dont have the Samba bus then, or the other aircooled VWs. Without this "Hitler-mobile", there would be no Porsche at all, or Bugatti Veyron, or any VW AG at all. Everything VAG and Porsche AG has ever done is thanks to the Beetle. Probably would not have dune buggies such as the Meyers Manx either, come to think of it.

And Mercedes, if we're sticking to car manufacturers. That's on account of Porsche working for them, and on account of them (along with Auto Union) taking "Nazi money" every year to dominate motorsport leading up to the Second World War. "Legendary Silver Arrows" indeed.

Unfortunately Gran Turismo is a driving simulator. I'd rather drive something a tad faster then a VW beetle, which has a 0-60 time so slow you can use a sun dial.

Ha! I love the unit of measure. A calendar would have worked as well. For me, I am going to buy one and paint it Champagne Gold Metallic (Chevrolet color) and find rims as close to the Porsche rims in this picture.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the airtight/floating aspect of this car, made famous in a commercial from the 70's. Or if someone has, I missed it

Loving how his thread is unveiling some parts of the Beetle history. (some good, some bad, but history is history...)

Until 1996? Please tell me it didn't die :nervous:

Ok. I won't tell you.:( But I will say that at least the engine was salvaged.

If that's your argument, you'd better avoid reading too much history since there will be plenty of products and brands you would want to stay away from then.

Indeed. If I avoided everything I had issues with, I would starve.

No Fords either. Henry Ford did write a book that was largely adapted in Mein Kampf, and he was officially cited in Mein Kampf as well. Not only that but he was awarded the highest award the Nazis could give to a foreigner.

You'll find many things in the world have been influenced by Hitler and the Nazis. A bad man did some bad stuff. Would you instantly hate yourself if you found out one of your parents murdered a bunch of people? They made you, under your logic, just because a bad person made something, that product is evil.

Uh-oh; it's a duplicate of the Schwimmwagen! Unacceptable. :D

To be honest, Beetles never die.

They were made here in Brazil until 1986, then some politician (Itamar Franco) wanted it back and then VW produced them again in 1996, these were the last brazillian beetles, and they have a high value for collectors. And needless to say that they were produced in Mexico until 2003. And to tell you guys some fun facts, the VW T1, with almost original design is produced here still... but with watercooled engine.

Having that long run production in mind, together with the car near unstoppable capabilities we have this speech, that Beetles, never die. And when you see a Beetle, there's always others around. It's incredible. LOL

If you pick a Beetle engine and cut it apart, in dozen pieces and you turn the key, it'll start working in pieces on the ground....pr pr pr prriiiiiiiiprooooo LOL

Beetles are tougher than Highlander! If you cut Highlander's head, it will die, if you cut a Beetle head, it becomes a convertible...

That whole motorsport program by the way, was (aside from propaganda) a way to test and develop engines aimed for Messerschmitt (and others) fighting planes since they weren't allowed to actually test fighting planes under the Versailles treaty.

If you want to boycott all car manufacturers taking money or working for the Nazis, then you'll have to include, amongst others, for example GM too.
Not only were they supplying both GMC trucks to the US Army and Opel Blitz trucks to the Wehrmacht but apparantly these trucks shared a lot of parts as well, efficient hypocrisy at work.

Oh and what's the name of that guy who designed the rocket which took man to the moon and who made space travel possible.
You might wish to stop using GPS as well.

This is 100% true and not forgetting the Nazi scientists and engineers who were captured after the war, relocated to the US and granted immunity in return for them working for the US military and continuing their research so a lot of US military technology of the 50's and 60's was essentially Nazi German technology being used by the Americans. The V-2 rocket being the prime example.

I'm gonna send a letter to PD to make a Race Mod version of it that looks like this:

Herbie in Indonesia by SunRise27, on Flickr

:sly:

And find a way to do a wheelie in it...................somehow (maybe do an engine swap with a porshe/RUF, lol)

EDIT: Woah how the heck did we start talking about Nazis? 0_0 lol

I'll buy two. One gets maxed out, lowered and a pair of racing slicks for trolling, and the other gets maxed out, raised and a pair of dirt tires so I'll be ready for Baja!

Try to re-create it the way I see it in the summer where I live. Stopped, by the side of the road, with a man on his cellphone next to it, looking for a ride.

But in the time before, I plan to thrash it around a track.

One of my Dad's good friends had one of these, they have so many stories about the car.
Stuff like my Dad and ANOTHER one of his friends picking it up and walking away with it while the owner wasn't looking.
Will deffinitely tune it up for off-roading.

I also +1 the Herbie RM option.

Aw! I was thinking about a Herbie RM option too! Lol

Y'all crazy. Stock. White. Shhh. Drive.

I'm going to paint it matte red and try to slap on some American Racing style mag wheels. Then take off the front bumper.

Then it will be just like my first car. I still have the shift knob. I LOVED that car.

Although, technically it wasn't "matte" red. It was gloss red minus the gloss.

Wonder if I can get a blue fender?

My thoughts exactly, the love for such a hideous, under performing junk of a car is mind boggling to me. To each their own i suppose. I know in the states this car symbolizes smelly hippies and a chick car. Maybe its different elsewhere?

It is! :)

The Beetle is a legend here in Mexico!!! (also in Brazil) :) We kindly call him "Vocho" :) 👍 A lot of people here have a great passion for this car, like me :D for example... You see, it even has it's own Magazine! :D

This car isn't only the most produced car ever, but for us Mexicans, it's part of our culture, it's an icon... this car put food on the table for many VW workers in Puebla for many many years, and almost everyone I know has a cool story with a "vocho" on it... In Mexico, this car is almost as famous as some rockstars, actors... etc... To put it simple... Mexico Loves the Bug! :)

For me it's the best car of the new DLC pack :) This car deserved premium status from day one, if you ask me...

That's very true!
I have an uncle back in Mexico that has an old, beaten up, Vocho and it runs like new! Gonna paint mines blue like my uncles (I think that's the color, it's a ghetto rainbow!)

I love old Bug. Good to see it in premium.

I see in Mexico it's called Vocho and I'm wondering do other countries have their own names for it and what do they mean?
In Poland we call it "Garbus", which means "Humpback".

And to that guy who says it's evil nazi mobile. Poland hate nazis and Hitler, probably more than other nations, but we love old Bug! Even in my small hometown there is annual Bug meeting where about 100 of those gather together. No matter if it was approved by Hitler, it's iconic and great car, so get over it.

Don't have the funds as yet to get the DLC, Expensive month of having to pay bills and such, So I intend to see what modifications can be done to the Bug, Hopefully there will be many and a huuuuuge exhaust to boot ;), Then when I can afford the DLC I shall be modifying the life out of it and then tackling the ring ;).
