TVC: assuming your not American? the LUV in the US was the immediate predecessor to out S type mini pickup. it was from Isuzu at the time.

No I just don't know anything about American economy cars. :)

Sorry I read my post. What I meant was they don't sell the same trucks there as they do here. Like the Silverado.
 
btw, the last AMERICAN economy car stopped being made in 1953. they were called Crosleys. everything else we've gotten since is a paint and tape and badge job on Japanese.

What?

The term "economy car" is a fairly loose term. I think there are plenty of people who would have argued in the 1960's that cars like the Chevy II and Ford Falcon were in fact "economy cars" by comparison to the rest of what was offered in the market. But you pretty much ignored the entire Gas Crisis-era development cycles for the big three. You've got the Vega-Pinto-Gremlin triforce of awful, the GM X-Body, the Chrysler K-cars, the Neon, GM J-Body, etc.

While definitely true that GM and Ford (especially Ford) did extensive work retouching imported Japanese and Korean vehicles, Chrysler really did stand alone doing their own thing with the small car platforms and development. A likely reason why they had arguably the best small cars available in America until 2005. A very, very, very scary thought - and a horrible realization of how bad things actually were.
 
So the hot model chick that was standing around the car said that this is just a show car and it will only sort of look like this when it's released to the public. She said basically the basic shape will be the same but a lot needs to be changed for safety regulations and what not. She also sad they are attempting to keep the interior as cool to the concept as possible. She told me it was like the Camaro concept was a few years back.

The interior looks pretty legit too.
 
It was more along the lights will be changed along with the mirrors and other things because a lot of it doesn't pass safety spec I think. The interior does look similar though, which is good since I find it kind of cool.
 
Eric: nuhuh. the Japanese were first, remember? we didn't start rebadging Koreans till the 80's (i believe the Festiva was our first rebadged Korean?)
 
That seems pretty likely. The current Barina is exactly the same car as the Aveo in the rest of the global market.
 
Looks great, apart from that damn grille that Chevy persist with. If they just moved the badge onto the middle of the top grille rather than sticking it between them it would look fine...
 
I personally don't mind it but why are they making the lights look like that? I figured if they were to change anything from the concept, they'd put in regular lights. It just looks weird.

They're not, they're camouflaged.
 
That grille is just awful. Michelangelo didn't paint the same mustache on all of his works. Enough with corporate branding already.

In much the same way that the Cavalier and Cobalt had the negative stigma to overcome, Aveo faces much the same problem not just in the US, but around the world. According to GMI, General Motors has trademarked the name "Chevrolet Sonic" to replace the ol' Aveo name. Although, it appears Barina sticks around down in Oz.

When I start the car, and it shout, "SEEEGAAAAA" through the speakers?
 
Perhaps they should rename the Tahoe the Chevy Eggman?
