Well it all really depends on what kind of genre it is so I'd say the best racing game is gt3 and soon gt4 and for the rest I'd say metal gear solid S.O.L would be great.In fact metal gear solid S.O.L was the reason I bought my ps2

It's the only PS2 game I haven't gotten tired of playing.

Final Fantasy X narrowly edges out GT3 for me. GT3 has claimed more hours of my life, but the story of FFX is just too good, there's all the magic of the prior games plus they finally speak, what more can you want? I have to get X-2 now.

GT3 and Ace Combat 04, since those are the two game s I really got my PS2 for (until GT4, AC05, and GTA San Andreas come out). I'd include GTA3 and VC, but I've only played those on PC (before I got my PS2)

Gran Turismo 3. Second place would be THUG, third would be NASCAR Thunder 2004, and fourth is Need For Speed: Underground. I have other PS2 games, but those are the only ones I play regularly.

To the person who said Metal Gear sucks, we know where you live. And to get back on topic, there are too many great games to just pick only one, it is impossible, all games get boring over a long enough period of time.

MGS 2: substance, GT3, the Onimusha series and Devil May Cry. Ratchet and clank 2 gets an honourable mention.

The We7int has no handball (or much less frequent) and it also has a better "play on" feature. If you want great patches go to www.evo-web.co.uk
A side note, we7int in the US is not as good as the We7int from japan. Dont ask me why Konami does this.

I don't find the hand ball that irritating, but it does occur too much. I think you mean the play advantage thing when you've been fouled, but it's easier to keep the play going instead of stopping for a free kick. The reason the American version isn't as good is because they just don't care about this awesome game.

The play advantage is still in we7int (Japanese) but its more refined and more "logical":

If I see WE7 int in the Import game shop I might get it.
