i can see it now... the regulars will be putting veilside bodykits and 20 inch chrome bling on and tailpipes that echo. and the tuners will be delicate with sticky compound tires, 22 way adjustable gas shock coilovers, aluminum suspension braces and carbon fibre/FRP canards and diffusers. oh yeah, and of course the hard top on for that slippery drag coeficient
 
The best improvement one can make to the Sky/Soltice is the Mallet conversion...you get a cheap Corvette.

care to explain to me what a mallet conversion is? :)
 
It's a LS2 out of a C6 Corvette or a LS7 out of a Z06...so you are looking at 400hp for the LS2 or 500hp for the LS7.

Hot Rod magazine is building up an LS7 Soltice which should be sweet as hell.

thats alot more than my estimate, but little enough to still maintain its appeal. wow! that thing would scream!

Fully loaded it's the 20,000 dollar car plus an additional 30,000 for the updgrade...so you get a 50,000 car that will run cirlces around a lot of cars.

I like how they didn't do anything flashy with the exterior either, so it could make a great "sleeper" car until that LS7 makes a rumble.:sly:
 
Mallet is pretty well known for really only doing rims and maybe a new hood to fit a certian engine. They aren't ones for flash...although some of their Vette's have flash, but they also have a huge motor.
 
The Mallett Solstice is a wild one, and I would not be too surprised to see it show up at this years Supertuner Showdown from Car and Driver.

But, they have been doing the same thing with the Miata for years. There was a time when quite a few people were sticking either the RX7's Turbocharged Wankel or Ford's 5.0L V8 under the hood, turning a rather mild roadser into something that reminds us all of the origional Cobras of the 1960s...
 
There are a few LS1 Miata's running around as well, although I don't know about the Miata chassie being able to take that torque.

I have heard of many and know a guy that had a high powered turbo rotary MX5 (always been called MX5 in Australia) and haven't heard of the chassis giving problems.
 
The lotus is tough to beat....especially if its an exige. They may not win the horsepower race but its sure is a nimble "drivers" car.
 
but due to the exige's high price, it is kinda out of this comparison.. im sure we could all go off again in a $50,000 limit sports car poll...
 
Again, it was an attempt to bring in the best roadsters I could think of... Exige is definately not a roadster, but the Elise made it through.

...Unfortunately for us, it isnt like the 1960s when there 30 kajillion options for the best roadster under $6K USD.

...Do they still build the Renault Spider? That might have been a good model to include...
 
The Exige is an open top, it's also not actually that expensive, being cheaper than the Tamora, Weismann, Shelby and Boxster.

I dunno, I guess I didnt put the SLK on here because it really isnt too compeditive like the others, but I suppose it is at the same time.

...I realise now there are quite a few cars I missed, and I apologise...

EDIT: You can always select "OTHER" and then tell us what "OTHER" defines as in your book...

In the US it's over $100k to get one, over here it's £49k, so a bit expensive to be included in this list, but your paying for some serious performance and an image that's quite something.
