Which one? I assume the Metallica one.

Though you could be talking about rap albums in general.

Everything after Master of Puppets sucks. Deal with it.

I liked the Black Album more at one time.

Then I heard Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning and realized how gutless the Black Album really is.

Your a dumbass. The Black Album is great! Just look at the tar. Come on I think there are two not so good songs on that CD.

It just sounds different from the other albums cause well music changed during that time. Remember change is good.

I'm a huge Metallica fan and I've liked all there albums. I amit there new stuff isn't as good as there old stuff but its still good.

No, the Black Album is just mediocre next to Metallica's earlier stuff. They were sounding uninspired, plus Bob Rock's overproduction didn't help any.

Personally, I didn't like the Black Album as much as they're earlier stuff. And anyway, Ride the Lightening is the best...

The Black Album is a awsome album, if you don't like it then don't listen to it simple.

Don't tread on me is the greatest Metallica song. I mean come on it talks about how you shouldn't screw with the USA!

One is the best Metallica song, easily.
I have to agree with you on this one. I love One. Fade To Black is a great song as well.

Does anyone else here like Orion from Master of Puppets?

I love it

Master of Puppets is the best Metallica album.

The black album was the first commercial sounding one. I'm not a big fan of it. It's pretty boring in comparison to everything before, except Kill 'em All, which I never really liked.

I disagree that everything after Master of Puppets sucks; And Justice for All is great. It's my favorite of theirs. Just a personal preference but I think it's different, distinct in it's own right. The mathematical yet asymetrical rythyms and intros, warm, dry, close-up production, and all around lack of glitz make it for me.

Fight Fire with Fire was my first Metallica song. I practically drooled and was like, "where have you been all my life..."

Exactly!! That's my beef with it (besides the bland songs). Bob Rock got his Top-20 claws into Metallica and they haven't been the same since. Production is a big part of an album. I propose that a rougher, more "lo-fi" sound and less knob twiddling would have made the Black album much better. Rough-and-ready music combined with glossy pop production make a lousy mix.

For a further example, thake the Cowboy Junkies' Miles From Our Home. This was far and away the most produced album in their library. It has quite a few good songs, but they get lost in the droning pop production (overdubs galore). Listen to the album versions of Good Friday and Hollow as a Bone; then find any live version and you'll hear what I mean.

I have not listened to that in so long. I'm gonna have to break it out. It's one of those "goosebump" albums for me.

But back to Metallica. Why do they suck now? Sorry, but I think they have become better at being rich and famous that anything else. And their covers just make me want to laugh. Who ever told James Hetfield he was some kind of crooner?

It's sad when a formerly good band turns bad. :(

Well I'm not going to say Metallica sucks until I here the new album they are coming out with in the near future.

near future my ass, this album has been coming out forever. they don't have a bass player. they are over.

They could have nearly any bass player they want. as for being over I don't reall think so, do you?

The new album will be out in the first quarter of next year.

wasn't it supposed to be out Q1 this year? well I can't wait to hear it. maybe they'll come back yet, it'll be their first actual album since 1997 (not counting garage inc and s&m which were all covers and ****).

It seems to me that the black album was a turning point. Not as complex song-wise, more straightforward during recording, and more commercial production values than previous albums. Still, it's much better than anything they've put out since.

I remember reading an interview with Kirk right around the black album, and he said that he had never played many of the solos recorded on the older albums, they were stuck together, sometimes note-by-note, onto the master track. He'd be called in to record a 1/16-second three-note pull-off so the engineer could tape it into a gap. Ouch. In the "Year and a Half" video, you can see that the recording process was much more natural for the black album.

As for Bob Rock's (over)production, at least it was nice to finally HEAR Newsted's bass. And hey, now that Jason's gone they should just get Flemming R to produce again and nobody will notice!

well accroding to a fan site that seems to be in the know. Metallica has recorded 30 some odd songs.

As for a bass player I suppose Bob is playing...but anyone can play bass, hell even I could. Bass playing isn't that hard when it comes to rock music.

I don't think Metallica is over, to many people like them and they are still selling CD's. I just think a select few hate them because of the whole Napster thing. Then there are the people who just hate there music.

they just don't seem to be in the spotlight or anything. they may not be over, but until they bring out this new album, they're not as big as they used to be.

They may not be as big but they will always have a big following.
