First: Kazunori was still unwilling to give a solid release date for Gran Turismo 5. Although, Kazunori explained, as Gran Turismo PSP is right around the corner, its upcoming PS3 counterpart shouldn't be too far away. That sounds like "sooner rather than later" to me.

The next detail Kazunori touched on was regarding damage models. I can confirm that not every car in Gran Turismo 5 will sport damage models -- it will only be select sets. However, Kazunori has yet to decide on a finalized list of featured car types for damage support.

Lastly, it sounds like Porsche will not make it into Gran Turismo 5. As disappointing as this was for Kazunori, Porsche signed an exclusive arrangement elsewhere and will probably not be included. It looks like Porsche fans will have to wait. >:( http://ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1015537p1.html

Call me Captain Strangey McStrangepants if you will, but...

Physics: Standard/Professional
Damage: None/Standard/Professional

Not implausible, surely?

Take this theorizing a step further.

We don’t see damage in the first game play video, albeit the guy wasn’t wall pounding. Second video only shows two cars when damage is visible.

Convertible top down and wet tracks…we know the possibility of limiting certain things in GT games of the past. Does this make you wonder?

Thank you very much for that piece!
This made me think - and I´ve been touching this theme before - only racecars will get damage in the final build of GT5.

Too bad about Porsche.

umm? no. ppl are making very valid points, you cant include dmg on some cars and not on others, that is the very definition of incomplete.

especially when... wait for it... forza 3 has full dmg on all cars.

sure it doesnt look AS gorgeous (still looks pretty fkn awesome), but im sure it'll be heaps of fun to play, especially with aerokits, livery system, etc.

it's been a long time coming this game, and i think its perfectly reasonable for ppl to expect alot from this game, especially since most of us have helped fund this game by buying gt5p. not to mention alot of us have bought ps3's practically for the sole purpose of playing this game.

You don't have to start about forza again.
if you like that game more, buy it,
and don't complain about gt5.
If only certain cars would have damage,
there will be a good reason for that.
It's not as easy as a lot of you think.

Start about forza again? umm no ive never mentioned it before.

For the record im a gt fanboy, just atm gt5 isnt looking so spectacular.
I can complain about gt5 all i like this is an open forum, im not attacking anyone, unlike you.

And i dont care how easy it is or isnt, others have done it before and done a better job of it too.

My guess is damage was a late inclusion in the development cycle and was not originally planned.

Plus they want our hard earned money, its not like they are doing us a service or giving us gt for free.

This mentality of brand loyalty drives me nuts sometimes.

If you read the "Gameplay" part on news is states that damage was seen on the other(non-race car) impreza.

Unless you buy and register a PSP GO between 1st-10th October. Then they will give you GT for free...

I just saw the video on the news page, and I'm floored. Damage looks amazing in GT5.

Then, I came to this thread. I'm dissappointed that only select cars will feature it. It's going to be very strange playing the game like this...

I was afraid it would happen. Because each car is so intricately detailed, and because there are so many of them in GT5, PD couldn't apply damage to all of them. They set a standard that was too high, and they bit off more than they could chew.

Hard earned money ?
It isn't like GT5 Prologue costed thát much...
It was worth the money I guess..
And GT5 will be worth it too.

I'm sorry if I sounded attacking, that's not what I want to do.

And maybe others are better with the inclusion of damage and some other features too..
But I don't know why, but the only driving game I really feel ultra-comfortable with, is Gran Turismo.

I just guess I'm only happy, because I really never expected even this much of damage..
I expected about completely nothing, for the part of damage.

I'd even love the game even if there were no damage..
But the people who then say it isn't realistic you can bump into a wall and have no consequences to that, while they call themselves the real driving simulator, those people have a point too, and I can't bring anything to that...

The problem is that we have all been waiting for GT5 for years. Wasn't it once supposed to be a launch title for the PS3? That alone was 3 years ago.

After all this time, we expect the best. I remember in an interview, when asked about GT5's release date and how long it's been in development, KY of course didn't reveal the date, but also said, "isn't it worth it to wait for a good thing?"

Yes, it's worth it, but we've been waiting for so long we expect a GREAT thing. That means damage on all cars, cockpit views on all cars, none of this half-assed stuff. Instead, we rejoice at having insignificant stuff like "private races." Yes, private races are great, but in modern day gaming they are nothing but a necessity! And for GT fans it's something amazing!

All I'm saying here is that PD seriously needs to get its act together. Maybe what Famine said is right, maybe the demo just had damage toned down or something. But if GT5 releases with this crappy damage, then I'm through with Gran Turismo. If GT5 doesn't release in 2009, then I'm through with Gran Turismo. It has already been too long of a wait, and now we are being disappointed. How the hell does that happen?

Which means they are further off from the release than previously thought?

No, more likely that it is just a matter of turning on or off damage for any kind of car. They have already modelled it for all those special cars. And I don't think it is just up to PD, but that they are still in negotiations with a number of car brands about damage.

So if they have damage for all the cars and just have to decide why not have it on all cars?

Sorry, the games not coming this year based on that quote.

I don't understand the bit about having to be in negotiations with car brands about damage. Doesn't Forza have damage on all its cars? Why can't GT do the same?

Very well said... its been too long TOO LATE.

1000 cars are not enough?
And all the other details that we read are so bad?
I don't have a ps3 neither gt5 prologue, but I never said that gran turismo is s**t because it don't have damage.
Come 'on, this is the first appearance of damage on gran turismo... grid/dirt don't have 1000 cars... they hardly arrive @ 100..

lol gran turismo is kinda like a crappy relationship. you say u are thru with it, then it goes and does sumthing to surprise you and ur back in love with it again. i think despite all the bashing we will all be playing it pretty much launch day.

That would be sweet, but in the real world no... they simply havent done it yet.

Does Forza have all car brands? I just know (and it has been mentioned by PD) that some brands do not want to show any damage on their cars at all. Which seems a bit silly to me, unless they know that their cars are really bad at obsorbing an impact and don't want that to be known to the world.

I don't actually know why I bother to respond at all, I don't care for damage, just for how well technology has progressed on damage modelling. :grumpy:
