I bet the NASCAR damage we've recently seen, which I must say I'd be fine with, is actually going to look better. A lot, lot better, judging by all these new photos.

Hi there..Well for those that read my quite long rant you probably have understand why i am so disappointed with gt 5.Its not just a matter of having good damage shown on cars...It goes much deeper than this to the relative relations and threading of the various features a simulator must have.I am talking how the damage works with the collitions and how these work with the physics and how all the above work with the behavior of the AI cars...I hear posts here from people saying they don't care about rollovers,or the ai,or if there is no damage or if the damage is a is with the excuse that this is a sim and good drivers don't crash.....Or that this a serious sim so there is no need anything of the above as only bad drivers crash.....

When you bump another car sides, corners or real end it you expect a realistic responce to the collision not just a slowing down....As cars just follow blindly the race line they don't care about letting you pass or block you or simply slowing down before a corner so they don't smash each other or on you.It really feels like bumper cars....And when you have a slide at 200 miles you expect that the car might rollover or literary become airborne...As you expect a crash to seriously damage or completely wreck or make undrivable your car. This is what makes sim driving,or flying for the matter so tense and thrilling. The risk of loosing completely for the chance of getting the 1st place is what racing is about.Being able to even finish is a prize itself in a sim game.
Being able to bump cars at 100 miles is NOT.

And why you all keep mentioning Forza 3 ? It's a great game for what it is and i feel the devs behind turn 10 really hear what their fans say and actually have a grasp of what needs improving and what needs fixing. You can find a trillion examples of bugs and bad physics, but all the core aspects are there and when they happen to work together the game truly feels special.Still don't forget the game is on a inferior console compared to ps3 and to truly shine you need a Very expensive Fanatec 911 Turbo wheel.

If you honestly want to give some good examples take some of the best mods for rfactor and gtr evo/race on.Those games have great mechanical damage, incredible collisions and fantastic physics.

still complaining about damage?

Last time I check there is no driving simulator on any system that is perfect. Even rFactor with all its mods is far from perfect.

so glad it's real time damage, not every crash will be the same. That's good news also.

I think it's pre-renderd for whichever are of the car you hit. Some of the front corner damage pics I saw in another thread look exactly the same as the ones I experienced a couple of hours ago. The part where for some reason the very corner of the bumper along with the front fender get squashed in towards the body so the tire looks exposed. That's what I got every time I hit the barrier with each front corner. More of the bumper should've been damaged. This is still ahead of forza by a mile though.

I murdered a Ferrari 458. Please forgive me Kazunori...

Looks authentic 👍

Honeslty, I know that damage is cool and a clear sign of GT evolution but, I can't help but feel sad every time I see a ruined car like that Ferrari, I like cars too much to keep looking at it.

Kazunori san was really serious when he said extensive damage, that's why I'll take extensive care with my babies in the game. :D

Looks authentic 👍

Hard, localized or chassis-bending impacts (dislocated wheels, strongly asymmetric deformations, etc) won't unfortunately, but somehow I still hope for total realism for those too even though I understand that the cockpit area isn't allowed to get badly damaged, at least on production cars. Still, that is better damage representation than the average (in terms of visual realism. As for how wild it can get, I fear that other games are still better).

Got to say i'm really impressed with the damage on the white 458. Has it been confirmed what build this is?

I wonder if the "down to the smallest nut" quote from kaz re: nascar turns out true!

Well in Shift a front on collision cause the back end to somehow deform as well :)
And the bonnet always comes off a certain way after a few strikes, kinda like GTA4. They're all scripted

This worries me alot :nervous:. The headlights clearly look like they aren't a separate piece from the body. Last time I checked, glass shatter and breaks and so does the headlight container. It shouldn't mold or dent to a different shaped piece.

Thats because this car hasn't been updated to the level of damage that the Ferrari, and others, has. We saw the same damage on the Motul GTR back at E3.

Well not anymore!

But, if you crash fast, your engine should stop. I agree for those people that say that. But with damage that looks good(or bad in the good way) it will keep us racing in the GT series more cautious now. You dont want to scratch your ride do ya? Well now we got it. But it still has the bumber car effect in a way. I mean like when you crash in GTAIV hit a wall and watch the car stop and the g-force takes effect. I cant really explain it that good but I just dont feel that much surprised. ............

.....you know what? **** that I dont even crash that much in the game anyway. So I wouldn't be worried. GT5 looks awesome, sounds awesome, has awesome physics, and Go Karts, and it still aint out yet. And mom still hasn't bought pancake mix since last Thursday, and GT5 has the ****en Top Gear track which I still cant believe it.

I love GT5.
(and pancakes)

The SuperGT GT-R's damage reminds me of something. Where have I seen damage just like that...

Obviously it's on a different level graphically, but the fact everything is just condensing towards the center, it instantly reminded me of... HORNBALL.

All of these new pics showing this crazy amount of damage makes me wonder. What will happen if you cross the finish line with a totaled car? Will we be paying thousands of dollars to fix this damage?

damage does not carry over to the next race

don't worry body panels separation was off in this demo.

Body panel separation or panels completely falling off? Separation was definitely on since a small bump in the rear made the rear bumper flail around like a rubber chicken.
I think you're expecting more than what we'll actually get.

Damage looks fantastic! It's impossible to get everything right when it comes to damage...this new damage is good enough for me. GT5 just moved up another level.

Crap! I had one more photo from this morning that I never uploaded. Sorry! Here's the last one.

The Mercedez logo is missing in the AMG.

There was a game (NFS Porshe?) where you can buy a slightly damaged used car. Maybe Kaz include something like this in GT5? It would be interesting. Imagine that you bought a cheap car with some mechanical and visual damage, repairing the car will cost less than buying a fully operational second-hand car. You will need to consider the purchase, whether it is worth to buy a slightly damaged car or non damaged, seeing the prices of the two.

p.s > I hope that the car mirrors will fall off on impact.
