FM3's GamesCom demo build was from august 14th, so maybe this demo was a really old build too
I hope they have looked at what other games have already done with damage
They need to make it so if you have one huge crash its all over. Like in colin mcrae Dirt one big crash and your cars history.
Of course it would be optional for those who make a habit of crashing, but it would be default for online TTs etc
What is the definition of a huge crash though? 50mph head on into a wall, 100mph haed on into a wall? In real life racing, depending on the car, 20-40mph head on into a wall can end your day.
I think PD is a little timid about making extremely realistic damage that takes you out with one big crash if their interviews of the past are anything to go by. They don't want to alienate their audience which has been use to playing bumper cars to claw to the top.
Maybe do what Forza does, and make damage optional, and the more realistic of a setting you put it on the more bonus money you get at the end of a race.
I also like the idea of earning trophies for finishing long races without taking major damage.
I'm looking forward to 'damage' in GT5, however, I'm concerned about its effect on the quality of racing.
If it penalises bad driving it will be an asset.
I am particularly concerned that GT5 might add damage to the current GT5P game physics in which the 'drafting effect' is set at a far stronger level than in reality.
In GT5P the current drafting settings allow poorer drivers to stay in contact with quicker people. If damage is simply added to this formula at the Pro level in GT5 then the quality of the racing experience will suffer. Poor drivers will just be able to stay in contact with skilled people and then take them out at a corner.
In my view racing is already negatively affected in GT5P by the artificial drafting effect and it should be significantly reduced or removed. In hardcopy racing corner exit speeds are far more important.
Drafting may assist competition at lower levels. But at the Pro level drafting should go the way of the Rubber Band Effect. PLEASE GET RID OF IT.
I look forward to damage in GT5, but ONLY if the drafting effect is reduced to a realistic level to enable an accurate racing experience which rewards skilled performance.
When you have a over the top drafting effect give you 20mph speed boosts oval racing becomes a game of chance and not skill
Considering that testing here on GTP has shown that not washing your car has some effect on drag in previous titles, I will assume that PD has thought of this.Speaking of draft and wind resistance... I wonder if when your hood flies up open, if that is going to be taken into concideration... I mean a giant flap of metal sticking up ought to drastically decrease your speed and control no?
Considering that testing here on GTP has shown that not washing your car has some effect on drag in previous titles, I will assume that PD has thought of this.
Is that true? I gotta check it out.Considering that testing here on GTP has shown that not washing your car has some effect on drag in previous titles, I will assume that PD has thought of this.

Its not over the top.
They clean stuff like air intakes etc. in real life too in endurance races.
It has an effect on the cooling and the aerodynamics at the same time (in RL).

It was still the E3 'build' at Gamescom..
But, for some reason I've only seen damage in one vid of FM3, the Le Mans event..

I wouldn't say their deformation is bad, and they do have the odd bumper/spoiler etc falling off, but you'd think more would fall off!..
I think a mixture of this deformation for all cars + PD's already theatrical flapping doors/bonnets would be a good step forwards!
I have to say, I would much rather have Forza style deformation than bumpers falling off. Just personal taste.
That's the thing, Forza-style damage is bumpers falling off. That's what happens with a 200mph head-on collision in Forza 2, your bumper falls off lol.
Obviously though Forza has slight crumpling too but it always baffles me when people rant and rave about Forza 2's damage system since I played the hell out of that game and it's damage system was pretty rubbish in all honesty.
Graphically I always thought it was a bit all or nothing..
But mechanically, the damage effect (if set to simulation) could be quite brutal, doing endurance races, and getting cleanly through all the cars the damage kept you honest..
What was rubbish for you, and what would you like to see?
i have to say that the visual part of the damage doesent realy matter that much..
ass long as the mechanical part work OK.. in forza 2 you had to be carefull not to hit the car infornt because if you did you could end up with an engine fail.. and the car would go much slower..
and if you repeated bumping things your car would only go 5 km/t..
i only hope PD do some similar things with the mechanical damge ...
the visual part will never be right ass long ass the car manufactorer say that they dont want they cars to look totaly smashed.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya_OtaOta was taken to a hospital in Gotemba[3] where he was treated for third-degree burns to his face and neck area and minor burns to the rest of the body, but was fortunate to survive. He required plastic surgery to the nasal area as a result of the visor melting on his face. He also suffered from intoxication from the fumes he inhaled from the fire.
He was unable to function his right arm, right shoulder and fingers properly, causing an end to his professional career.[2]
