The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion---Discussion Thread

They're particularly good at inflecting verbs , eh? Sorry, could'nt help it.

LOL! 👍 Thanks for pointing that out. It seems I was more than a little tired at the time.

Also, by healing, I meant Restoration. Couldn't think for the life of me what it was.

Anyway, with my new Thief Khajiit (named Liono), I've been pilfering the market district non stop. Where do you find the fences to sell off all of the stolen goods? I looted the entire church in Anvil and made a crapload of money, but now I have all of this jewelery and expensive books and crap that I have nowhere to put besides the Weynon Priory chest. I tried the steal-drop-take trick, but that only worked on the stuff from the church. I don't think it works for goods stolen from merchants.

I was messing around near the Imperial City a couple of days ago when I noticed the small island within the lake. It is too steep to run onto it, and I think there may actually be some invisible walls. I think something may be hidden there. I cast Flare to see if there was an invisible wall and I heard a woman's voice (bandit or something) saying "Who's there" or something similar. I have the guide and it shows no places of interest (caves, dungeons, etc.) on the island.

Is that the island that is almost directly east of the Imperial City? I was trying to climb it and almost got it. There is an invisible wall. The online map I posted shows there is place called Wellspring Cave.

Enemies, quests, and treasure are all leveled in Oblivion..ie: The enemies that you face will change and become stronger, quests will become somewhat more difficult, and treasure (loot) will increase in value in accordance with an increase in character levels.

It seems that you already know this, but in order to find really good random loot, you have to gain levels. When my character was at a high level, say 47 or so, I would always cast a spell to temporarily increase my Luck value, and save before opening a 'Boss Type' treasure chest. If the chest did not contain an item that I wanted, I would reload and try again. Although this method of obtaining random loot is somewhat tedious, I did manage to find many rare and valuable enchanted items. In addition, some of the 'humanoid type' enemies you will encounter at higher levels might drop some really useful items, such as the Ring of Perfection....etc.

I'm at level 5. So, I wont be able to do that any time soon. It really takes the fun out of it. I have to be level 1,000,000 to get the good stuff.

I have a quick question. If you have stolen goods on your person, and you talk to one of the guards, do you get caught?

Nope.

Does anyone know if the merchants you rob from stay downstairs the night after? When I robbed the commerce office lady in her sleep and looted her shop and basement, I went in the following night to snag her iron armor which was too heavy for me to carry. I had her key to the shop from the previous night, but when I went in, she was behind her desk and got up as I entered. I quickly ran out because I hadn't saved and was scared that I'd get caught or something. I didn't, luckily.

Anyway, I'm afraid to go back into the jewler's shop because I stole everything out of his display cases and haven't found a fence to sell them to.

Well, maybe you exit onto that island from a nearby cave. I'll do a little research with Google and see if it mentions Wellspring Cave.

we need a plane lol.

woohoo 900th post:D

SPOILER (regards Wellspring cave and relation to a quest only)

That cave (Wellspring Cave) is used in the Mages Guild quest. You enter it from another entrance on the shore just northeast of the island.

thanks for that, but im the arch mage and ive never been there?
Possible Spoilers

That's weird....this should have been the first quest that Raminus sent you on after you obtained the necessary recommendations to actually get accepted into the Arcane University.

^lol thats nice^ ()

ok i might've done i can't remember that far back lol.
i looked at my saves last night...82.49hrs....629 saves lol:D

Dunno if this is a spoiler or not but it's to do with levels and weapons/armour.

Highlight-
Armour and weapons level up with you, roughly every 5 levels. So you start with leather and iron and by lvl5 you find chainmail and steel. Weapons go up the same way, so Iron first, then Stell, then Fine steel etc. But you can buy certain weapons at levels between 1-5, 6-10. The best stuff comes around level 18+. That's Daedric armour and weapons and Glass armour and weapons. You can't buy them and they're easily the best heavy and light armour and weapons.

They've come to get me when I steal :scared:

Like, I had a bunch of stolen stuff, not from anvil, went into anvil, and then they locked me up...:ill:

I rented this game. I am thinking of buying it. does anyone have a save file for a high level mage. I just want to run around and kill some stuff to see if I want to buy.

i don't really know, it must only be if someone see's you taking it(ctizen etc), im pretty sure i remember seing that somewhere(might'v been in that little book thing that comes with the CE)?

I'm contemplating joining the Thieves guild, but it seems like way too much work and involvement. Fighters Guild works fine for me now, and provides me with PLENTY of money from raids and quests.

Your bounty level affects whether or not a Guard arrests you immediately or not. You can have plenty of stolen stuff on you, but if your bounty level is low (or 0) then you won't get any trouble (unless you have equipped or are wearing stolen stuff...they'll get you for that).
If you do get a bounty pay it off asap (by talking to a guard) as you can't go to churches to have diseases etc cured. You can choose to go to prison if you want. The length of time varies depending on the crimes comitted and you'll randomly lose a point (or points) from your skills. The Shivering Isles is different. There you have to fight your way out of a Dungeon.

One thing to keep your eye out for are the Daedric Shrine Quests. You need to be at a certain level to complete them (they vary). The shrines are scattered throughout Cyrodiil.

You guy's ever have someone die, only to return to the town later and notice that their "body" is standing straight up, but dead as a door nail?

lol nope?

It's happened to me about 5 times, lol. They're still there too! The only models I've noticed it happens to are the Trolls, and male guards from the major cities. I had a guard die down by Leyawinn and his body stands arms and legs spread, just standing...but dead, lol.

I'm kicking a lot of ass though, got TONS of gold (nearly 15K) and tons of good items...the only thing I can't figure out is if you can get a storage area or anything to save items? I've got a few weapons I want to keep, for special occasions or if needed (specifically, elemental magic weapons) but have no place to store them? Luckily my strength is high enough to let me carry a lot. Any one got any info?

buy a cheap house(5g) and put them in the chests that come with the house, they can hold unlimited quantities:)

buy a cheap house(5g)

Where, and how? This is one thing I'd love to be able to do, as I'm carrying several items that I'm not using, but don't want to sell at the moment, or that may come in handy later.

Here's a question along the same lines: I have access to a house in Skingrad.. it's not mine, but the owner is dead. Would it be "safe" to store items there? What would be the chances of it being stolen, if the house belongs to someone, but that someone is never coming back? Right now, whenever I enter the house, it's considered trespassing, so I can't sleep there. But if I were to a drop an item in the house, or store it in a chest, would it be stealing if I went back for it later? Maybe I should try it sometime.. just drop something random and worthless, and then come back for it, see how it treats the item, and whether it's still there a few days later.

That's what I would do. Also, somebody said that you can use the chest at Weynon Priory for storage.
