The Eliminati

My first win was in a GT-R

Second win, I honestly can't remember and I forgot to take a screengrab.

Third win was a Bentley Continental.

Fourth win was an Audi RS6.

I like to just grab a quick car drop and then hide out until it's time for the final race. There's usually a good foresty spot in the final arena where people will just drive past you if you stay still. My favorite place to start is in that little field between the drag strip and the castle at the Horizon Festival. If you go to just southwest of the end of the drag strip, there's usually a car drop there. That's where I got my Bentley. Only once has there not been a car there.

I'd like to play it, but I keep getting DC'd five minutes into each round. Usually after I've picked up something good like a Bentley. Seems like a fun game mode if I could play it.

I'm curious if they'll have a car rotation once in a while and how bad it'll get in winter.

Only thing I hate about it is that it goes back to freeroam when loading a new game. It should’ve had its own reload screen instead of bouncing back and forth between freeroam.

Win 7 put me over the top at level 25, and I was able to do it in the Mini.

I’ve got seven wins in 45 starts, which means my winning percentage is just over 15%. 21 races completed, 14 eliminations, 51 car drops found, 0 legendary status car driven, 9h14m spent in The Eliminator, 415 miles driven.

So the Raptor and G63 6x6 are fairly useless all things considered. Assuming you can find one, the Stelvio is a good all-rounder despite being only tier 6. The Hoonigan Cossie is god-mode pretty much, if you're lucky to get one.

Still didn't get a win, but I've come 3rd a couple of times...

On the livestream yesterday they were answering questions, one viewer asked if everyone starts with the Mini, and I believe one dev said “for now”. Sounds like it’s subject to change.

I almost beat a GTC4 Lusso lv 9 with the Mini. I had a great run through the trees but in the end it caught me in the open. Still I think I gave him the scare of his/her life!

I beat a Urus with a Mini, no idea how as it was flat and open the whole way. I also beat an FF with a Galant but I got lucky and took some quick routes through Edinburg or however it's spelled.

Played one round just to give it a chance and got 15th out of 58 just by avoiding people for as long as possible. Could have done better if I had of read what the car drops were rather than just accepting any I managed to get. Ended up losing my Bowler for an Evo, and losing out to an RS6 in a head to head.

Not sure if I enjoyed the experience, but it was intense for sure. Might eventually get back to it the next time I get bored with my game library.

This was my fifth victory royale (yes, I'm calling it that.), which I'm kinda stoked to get considering it was night time and it was hell trying to avoid trees with minimal visibility. The car was Ken Block's Gymkhana 10 Escort, by the way.

Also reached lv25 after my 7th win. I'm still not done with this mode. Like it to the point I would buy a standalone BR racing game. I hope this mode will make it to the next Horizon games too.

At the end of the intro for Eliminator, Jaimin did say The Eliminator would make for a great video game, and I agree. It would desperately need some new features to make it worth playing in the long term, but I'm sure Playground would have many ideas up their sleeve if they were to make that happen.

In other news, I joined the Eliminati today - My number plate has never felt more meaningful.

I posted this in the General Discussion thread, but figure it really belongs here.

I wanted to find out how fast the arena wall moves, so I hung out in Astmoor in a T6 Ranger, and then tried to match the speed of the wall. I was at he farthest part of the arena, so this would be the fastest moving part of the wall. As the wall approached me, I took off. A little too late as it turned out, as I fell behind the wall. When I hit 100 mph, I finally matched the speed of the wall. At 110 mph, I finally managed to overtake the wall, and none too soon as I only had a few seconds left on my meter. So there’s your answer. The wall moves at 100 mph.

Finally won one game! :)

The last circle appeared on the southeast end of Derwentwater. I thought it would be unlikely for the finish line to be at the south or the west from there, since not many areas are left on the map in regard to both directions. Must be either north, east, or something like that. Since it looked like there's a lot more distance to cover going north, I chose going that direction. I left the circle and began my sprint northward alongside Derwentwater just after the announcer announced that the final showdown was beginning. It's kind of sneaky, but 20 - 30 seconds outside the circle were not enough to cause an elimination, and it's a valid tactic that's suggested in the stream anyway (see 42:50 - 44:35 below).

They said they would address this in a patch though, so perhaps the day will come when I cannot use that tactic anymore. :D

Other things:
  • I liked to spawn on the drift zone at the Horizon Festival; sometimes there's a car drop at the center, but not always
  • Seemed like car drops may suddenly appear. I remember just messing around near some chickens, not sure what area, going round and round, watching them fly and stupidly amusing myself with the sound effects, and then suddenly there's blue smoke with an RS4 Avant car drop beside the building near me

I really hope they don’t. It’s a calculated risk when you leave the arena early for the final sprint. And more often than not, you’re going to head in the wrong direction, so why not keep it in?

That's a good point. Perhaps they wanted to ensure that winning will be due to competition of driving skills (and map knowledge) and less about guesswork. But then again, roaming around in search of car drops is kind of guesswork as well. And being able to leave the circle early may give people with lower level cars higher chances to win, if they guess the right direction. Honestly I don't think they should prioritize changing this though, I don't think it's an issue that is as game-breaking as wall-riders in online races. Actually, it's really not an issue at all.

Also if they remove the allowance of leaving the arena early, it'll make trying to win in the Mini more of a pain, although I'm not too bothered about achievements.

Ups and downs for both options, I guess!

Had a good run today. Started off by beating a level 3 Lancer, which I then used to beat a level 9 NSX. Then somebody in a level 3 22b challenged me but I wasn't about to let karma get me back . After beating him, I upgraded to the AMG GTR and won.

It's a lot like actual battle royale games. Knowledge of the map is a huge asset, as is getting an idea of where drops will be.

Second Place seems to be the best I can get.

Mini -> Evo X (drop) -> Rebel (drop) -> R8 '13 (drop) -> Delta S1 (Level up) -> AMG GTR (Level up)

The AMC Rebel is a drop car? I’ve never seen anyone driving it in the game. I want that now.

I’ve discovered that after three or four races I can no longer challenge other racers. The prompt never comes up. What’s more, no one seems to be able to challenge me. It makes getting to the final round pretty easy. If I shut down my XBox completely, unplug it, let it sit for a minute and think about what it’s done, and then turn it back on, the ability to challenge other players returns. For another three or four games. I guess that’s what I get for having an OG XBox1.

I meant the Ram Rebel.

Got lucky and reached the top 4 in a Ram Rebel TRX. Got a challenge dismissed for the final round. Been getting a lot of top 15 to 25. Best car I got was a 959 rally car but got screwed when the finish was in the tunnel but we were above it.

It's a well-known bug. I don't think it's due to old hardware since all got one at some point. And you really don't have to hard reset your console but you do have to close the game which is still annoying.
I wonder how many lv10 cars are there. So far I got the AMG GTR, the Aventador LP700, the Hoonigan Escort Coswort and the RJ Anderson.

No, that's an issue everybody is encountering, regardless of hardware. It's probably a cache issue of some sort that hopefully will be resolved with a patch down the line. And you needn't unplug the console like in the ole days: just keep the Xbox button on your controller pressed until the option to turn off or restart your console pops up, and choose the latter. It will do a full power cycle and dump the cache.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person struggling with challenges.

Win #8 with the Subaru WRX:

Win #9 with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio:

Got the underdog achievement after beating a lv9 GTC4 Lusso in my lv2 Golf. The finish was in the tunel but the guy didn't noticed it. He kept circling around on top of the hill an let me take the win. Was kind of funny.

I lost a race to the very same finish line. Wasted a perfectly good Panamera trying to figure out where the finish was, then realizing it was in the tunnel, then going down the wrong side of the tunnel.
