I'm not completely sure, Grosjean was soundly beaten by Kimi and Kimi has been poor compared to Alonso and Vettel, how much worse can Jocelyn be?

I think Grosjean went through an overall improvement in performance - he was Crashtor before Crashtor was Crashtor, or something. I don't see it happening for Julie-Ann in either a top or middle team, to be honest.

That just seems to be an ad for mobile site hosting...?

I'm getting a web hosting advert as well...:odd:

VERSTAPPEN: IN A MERCEDES I COULD MATCH NICO AND LEWIS
15 July, 2015

Toro Rosso rookie Max Verstappen says his big crash at Monaco helped him to find a new level in Formula 1 and admits he believes that in a Mercedes he would be a front runner.

Many people – particularly 17-year-old rookies – might have been forgiven for giving in to fear as Monaco’s fearsome Ste Devote barrier loomed large at well over 200kph.

“I didn’t have time to think very much,” the young Dutchman laughed to Brazil’s Globo. “The only thing I thought was to get ready for a very big impact.”

But when it was over, Verstappen says he actually found a new source of confidence, notwithstanding those who criticised him.

“After the accident,” he explained, “I understood more about the car, and F1. I realised, for example, that the car is really safe and you can really give everything.

“After Monaco I had a leap of performance because I could change my concept of the limit,” added Verstappen.

While some continue to worry about Verstappen’s age, inexperience and apparent bravado, the Toro Rosso driver himself is confident he is ready.

“Many boys would like to do what I’ve done,” he said. “But it is quite difficult, which is something I can say honestly.

“I had the opportunity to learn a lot from a young age from a father who was an F1 driver. It’s a school that other boys don’t really have. My experience at 17 is much higher than other guys of the same age.”

Verstappen’s controversial debut, however, motivated the FIA to clamp down on its super licence rules. And now the governing body is moving to similarly clamp down on its premier F3 class, following a spat of dangerous crashes in 2015.

Asked if he agrees that F3 drivers should get more experience in the junior classes below it, Verstappen said: “Yes, I agree. After the serious accidents we have seen, which is really not positive for F3, I think it’s important.”

That might sound contradictory, given that between late 2013 and late 2014, Verstappen rose all the way from karts to the very pinnacle of motor sport.

“When I think about it,” Verstappen admitted, “I am impressed at the speed at which things have happened to me. I don’t think it’s easy to do what I have done.”

He is also thriving in the high-pressure environment of the Red Bull programme, run by the blunt and often brutal taskmaster Helmut Marko.

“Honestly I don’t feel it,” Verstappen said, when asked about the pressure, and the criticism. “I’ve never felt it. I just focus on doing my best.

“Other drivers, the media — everyone can say what they want about me. Of course, I have great support from the team, which is very important. But in the end, you have to believe the most in yourself and not care about what they’re saying about you.”

He is confident, for example, that with the current Mercedes, he would be matching Nico Rosberg and even Lewis Hamilton, “Definitely. 100 per cent for sure. If I had a chance like that, I don’t think I would have trouble making the most of it.”

He has already been linked with a sensational move to Ferrari, and even the 17-year-old is not ruling it out.

“I don’t know,” said Verstappen when asked if he will be at Toro Rosso in 2016. “If other opportunities come up, of course I will think about it.

“At the moment I am happy where I am. As for next year, I don’t know. I have a contract with Red Bull but it’s difficult to predict what will happen,” added the teenager.

How do you process the fact that Kimi beat Massa at Ferrari, then Massa dominated Kimi the year after ?
Also, Grosjean had a never identified problem with his car in the first part of 2013 season. Lotus eventually solved the problem by replacing the chassis, he finished the season very well.

There's a decent amount of talent out there. Magnussen is an immediate thought, Vondoome and Lynn as well.

The Italian media are reporting that Ferrari have done the deal, agreeing to take Bottas for 2016. James Allen suggests that Williams are looking at Felipe Nasr as a potential replacement for Bottas, but if they do, they might want a higher-profile driver alongside him; Jenson Button has been touted as a possibility:

I think they should keep Massa and get Nasr to be his teammate just to confuse everyone.

I can't see McLaren taking Lynn. They have invested heavily in Magnussen and Vandoorne, and Vandoorne is wiping the floor with Lynn.
Lynn won't be getting much higher than SFI/Lotus/Sauber level I don't think. I see Palmer going to Sauber and Lynn staying in feeders another year.

Palmer is lobbying for a Lotus seat. I think he anticipates a Renault buy-out, and thinks that will give him access to works machinery.

Renault is too smart for that. And if Palmer's lucky, Sauber might be an option.

Meanwhile, the Finnish media are working really hard to downplay the reports coming out of Italy, claiming that the deal between Ferrari and Bottas is nowhere near done, and insinuating that the deal will only go through if Raikkonen chooses to walk away from Ferrari. Which to me sounds like denial.

Well if this is the case Williams have a pretty powerful seat to fill, there was a Rumor Button was lobbying for the seat but i feel it could be good timing for someone like Grosjean or Hulkenburg.

Williams will probably go for safety rather then potential to maximise WCC position.

I could genuinely see Button bracketing his career by finishing at Williams. I think they'd have him, his brand is good, his Britishness is absolute. A lot of ifs/but(ton)s, though.

Button would do good and will likely outscore Massa who has been a good driver for them but if Hulkenburg goes for the seat I doubt they will choose him.

I can't see Hulkenberg going back to Williams. They didn't part on the most amicable terms - Hulkenberg wouldn't go out and find sponsorship for them because he felt that he would always have to commit sponsor packages. And while I'm sure every driver loves the idea that he is good enough to survive in Formula 1 without a sponsor package, Williams was in dire need of money and Hulkenberg hadn't fulfilled his potential at the time. I don't blame them for dropping him, and I don't think that they would be enthusiastic about taking him back for the sake of furthering his career.

Williams are in a different position now though, they have a Title Sponser that doesn't exactly require a certain driver nationality and they also have some minor Sponsers through Massa, it would make sense for them to hire him purely on what is best for Williams from a Championship perspective.

Back in 2010 it was totally understandable why they dropped him when you had Maldonado knocking on the door with monstrous sponsership money when they where in dire need of it.

When it comes to bad ways of leaving a contract Button takes the cake, back in 2005 Honda bought out his contract to Williams when Button realised the team wasn't going to be as good as he thought when he signed the contract.

Button himself actually put money towards getting out of it as well, kind of sends a giant middle finger to the team lol even if they got out of the deal financially unharmed.

The idea that Hulkenberg will return to Williams is little more than a pipe dream among those who can't accept that Hulkenberg hasn't been promoted to a race-winning seat. He has had several opportunities, and yet has been passed over every single time. If he really is as talented as the die-hard fans like to believe that he is, how do you explain this? Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes all had the opportunity to take him - and none of them did.

Well look who they took, no way Mercedes would of choose him over Hamilton and they where not going to get rid of Rosberg, and Mclaren where in a position where there was no point getting anyone unless they where they best on the grid.

Ferrari where the only ones who turned him down when given the fair opportunity but it's not like their decision proved to be a good one.

If Teams where the best judgers of who had talent or not then Hakkinen would of been driving for Williams in the mid 90s and not waiting till his Midfeild team made a good car.

There's always an excuse, isn't there? But I'll bet you never stopped to consider that the teams don't rate Hulkenberg as highly as the fans do.

I don't think he is elite by any means but talent has to be given a chance be given a judgement, you of all people should know this.

How much longer would you give him?
If i could predict the future i would tell you, if he got better for example then it's hard to say it doesn't matter because of what he did x years ago.

Some drivers get a bad injury or what not before they get given an opportunity(panis for example) that makes them a worse driver. While others get given the opportunity when they really shouldn't of(Hill).

Talent and Morale hardly stays static.

Isn't Hulkenberg's problem that he is a bit too tall, thus a bit heavy and therefore not being picked up by the top teams?
