Everyone who thinks Julie Anne Palmer will fail in F1 need to learn some history of F1 drivers. There are driver who excelled in lower formula only to fail in F1. There are drivers who under performed in lower formula and flower in F1.

It depends, Kobayashi is probably the best example of this but his career was cut short from factors outside his control(Keep in mind his pre GP2 form was quite good though, and he dominated F2.0)

I can't think of any elite drivers that didn't show something special in the lower leagues though(atleast in the past 15 years).

I see no reason to believe Palmer will succeed in Formula 1.

I can tell you what he has: money. I mean, the old Formula 2 championship was pretty much created by his dad to try and get him into Formula 1.
 
Money? So has every other driver trying to get into F1. Or are you trying to discriminate against people who bring money from their family rather than from sponsors?
 
Lotus line-up for next year looks extremely ordinary. What a shame it would be especially if the Red Bull drivers didn't have seats.

No, I discriminate against drivers who had entire championships created to aid their careers. The entire Formula 2 farce was made to get Palmer into Formula 1. MotorSportVision - which is owned and operated by Jonathan Palmer - created the series, ran the series, and owned everything in it. And when it became apparent that no-one from Formula 2 was going anywhere, it was shut down. Palmer wasted years of other drivers' careers for the sake of his own.

Palmer has created a number of series in his day such as Formula Palmer Audi that produced Justin Wilson as its first champion and the prize for that was a fully paid up drive in the following F3000 season.

Was that bad?

Do you have any proof that he set up this Formula 2 series for the sole benefit of his son or are you just carrying on with your diatribe again any driver you personally don't like?

So, what am I supposed to do? Say "oh, yes, he's in Formula One, so he must be there on merit, and so I absolutely respect him for the hard work that he put in, and everything that he has achieved so far"?

Sorry, but I'm not going to do that. Everyone bitches and moans about the state of the sport and the presence of pay drivers, and then you turn around and expect that everyone is afforded the same level of respect as if they are all equals. Palmer doesn't deserve to be in Formula One. He has under-performed at every level of the sport, and bought his way in. He might be a GP2 champion, but he was regularly beaten by the likes of Marcus Ericsson and Esteban Gutiérrez when they were racing together, and they were notorious for under-performing in Formula One.

Jolyon Palmer represents EVERYTHING that is wrong with the sport.

No. I expect you to judge him on how he performs when he takes part in actual Formula 1 Grands Prix and not at any point at all BEFORE that.

Well, prepare to be disappointed. I will happily judge him based on his previous results, because his previous results are his justification for taking part.

Make a list of the top twenty open-wheel drivers in the world. Assume that they are the twenty drivers who are racing in Formula One. Now, make a list of the next twenty drivers, and assume that they have been called up to replace the top twenty because the top twenty have all come down with food poisoning. Jolyon Palmer won't be on either list.

As I've pointed out before. Not all drivers who excel in lower formula succeed in F1. Some driver who are under performers in lower formula come into their own in F1.

I will judge Palmer on what he does in F1. Not on pre conceived bias. If he sucks I'll say so. If he's good enough I'll say so.
 
Who were the under performers in lower formula that became better in F1? I keep seeing that posted but I've yet to see anything backing that claim up.

Palmer has ran many series, some that his son hasn't even drove in, what then?

A very uninspiring choice, if true! At least he'll keep it on track - albeit slowly. One wonders if he was forced on Haas by Ferrari as frankly, he wouldn't even have been on my radar.

Haas have said they want a North American driver who brings money and has F1 race experience.

Of course, you may be right and they may just be putting a brave face on it :D
