Welcome to the
Ferrari Challenge - Challenge

Starting Monday 4th January 2021

Featuring 3 super models from Modena

FCC.jpg

We'll be using the Ferrari 355, 365 and 488 around some real world racetracks.

The 355 and 488 are from Ferrari's one marque Challenge series and these two mid-engined stallions are the main focus of the meeting. Points scored from both of their races will be combined for an overall Challenge Trophy. The 355 is a very nice handling car. The 488 is a little more tricky but is fine when you get used to it (and don't press the throttle to much). The 355 has ABS and the 488 has ABS and TC which you can use.

Between the Challenge races there will be a short exhibition race featuring the older 365 GTB4. This will have it's own separate scoring. The 365 is somewhat different to the others, having a large V12 engine in the front driving the back wheels with no driving aids. It's best to drive it a little more cautiously!

Track List

Imola

(Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari)

Algarve

Sportsland Sugo

Fuji

Zolder

Le Mans Bugatti

Zhuhai

Brno

Monza

Race 1 - The 355, 5 minute qualification, 15 minute race

Race 2 - The 365, 5 minute qualification, 10 minute race.

Race 3 - The 488, 5 minute qualification, 20 minute race.

No mandatory pitstop required in any of the races.

Some changes to note - especially to the regular races.
I'm running with shorter qualy times this series to give the effect of 1 lap super-pole qualifying sessions. You might get more than 1 lap in depending on the circuit and circumstances. You also might not get a clean lap in at all - which might mix up the grid a little without it being random.

The timings of the races are a bit more relaxed as well so there should be extra time to fit everything in between our usual 8 to 9.30(UK) runtime without it feeling rushed. And also allow for Internet problems!

Could I ask everyone to press "ready" on the lobby screen when they are ready - this will let me know when to start the track loading. There will be the usual 2 minute race ready screen after qualification - I might let this countdown further to also give everyone a break.

All clean and respectful drivers are welcome to join. We have a good selection of abilities so hopefully there will be someone to race against.

I've included the usual gang that have raced with me previously. Hopefully they'd like to join in again.

Car numbers and colours? If you'd like to pick a car/colour/number please post it below and I'll add it above. There will be 3 cars to select of coarse.

Note. The 488 has 3 variants but they are all the same car, it's just the region they represent that is different. You can pick any of them I believe so there's quite a selection to choose from.

* I've realised that SMS have duplicated some of the 365 numbering on the cars. So it's not so critical on picking your choices. If you find you're in the same car as someone else you can always swap for the next race if you want to.

488: NA 77

The other regions have so many beautiful looking 488 cars. I could have been happy with 10-15 of them.

However, as I am in North America, I had no choice

Yep that's correct. Instead of swapping tracks this time we're swapping cars. 👍

I've joined you in NA with my choice of 488. ;)

We should have had teams.

Happy to have you in the North American Region, my friend!

I don't think there are many good liveries here, though.

Teams would be fantastic if that could be worked out along with multi-class racing

I liked the team element when that happened before
Yes it can add an extra element to the races. The trouble is we're using 3 cars this time in 3 races. Plus the points of the the 2 Challenge cars are combined. So I'm not sure how teams would work.

If we were just using the 488 that would have been an opportunity to split them up into their separate regions - as teams.

And there's the problem of team members unable to race at some meetings.

If someone can come up with any team/grouping (any) ideas for this or future series I'm certainly open to suggestions since I treat it as a group "thing". It's not just me on track.

I'll have a think as well, although I'm still sorting out race/car/track/conditions! :boggled: :)

I know the middle one is an F40. Sorry, class 40, type 4, 2000hp diesel electric locomotive built by English Electric company in the late 50s early 60s. It's an earlier one I'd say since it has headcode discs fitted. The rest are American so I'm not sure of them. There's no Italian models amongst them though. :)

Happier New Year all.

You don't have to. It's all virtual, you can be who you like.

No, no you can't.

John, Max just beat you to number 25 for the 355 yesterday. And Oldbass has got the number 47 on his 365.

The 488 is available though. :)
