You should check out just about anything from Bones (Japanese studio). Bones consists of members from the staff that made Cowboy Bebop and Vision of Escaflowne. Bones is also responsible for Eureka Seven, Full Metal Alchemist, Wolf's Rain, among many. List of Bones Anime

I would most definitely suggest to you Eureka Seven and Full Metal Alchemist. I have watched all of FMA except for the movie and enjoyed the series very much. It is very well put together, has a wonderfully superb storyline, and has some great action. Eureka Seven is also absolutely wonderful and would recommend it for all the same reasons.

For a little more information on Eureka Seven, see these posts.

Eureka Seven Info #1

Eureka Seven Info #2

Both of these links are to two posts of mine that I have made about Eureka Seven, along with other series currently on Adult Swim at the moment. Hopefully they can be of some help to you.

I would also recommend this review from Spec (just a couple Spec's Post above from this one).

Well i got seriously hooked on Eureka Seven and finished the whole series in a little over five days which is nearly 10 eps a day Guess i should calm down a bit. However it is a very good anime and i know a few of you in here are still watching so will not spoil anything for you. For anybody who hasnt seen it though it comes highly reccomended, this anime has alot going for it. Great music, excellent animation and attention to detail also a pretty good plot which has a few twists.

If you want to know anything else, let me know how I can help.

Indeed a very good series! I would write a better review but unfortunately i think i would end up spoiling the plot for thise of you who havnt seen it yet or are in the middle of watching it. Certainly one of the best i have seen. 👍

Well your post does a good job of giving a general idea of the series. The two posts I have recommended of mine probably spoil some things and should probably be avoided if spoilers are not wanted. But just trying to help.

Long time no see gents, after some massive gathering of media it came down to a few gems:

FLAG: POV story touching some modern UN affairs...with biped robots :D
Welcome to the NHK :wacky, wrong, but sooo true.
Rescue wings : heli pilot drama, but more like a coming of age series for adults
Kanon (2006 remake) : maybe too mushy
Death Note : Amazing story telling!

Just wondering if any of you guys could give me some suggestions as to what I should watch these holidays.

The type of Anime i'm looking for needs to have plenty of action, entertainment (humour to keep it going) and includes the threat of, or already, of global-destruction. And another plus would be if it's set in the future.

The only movie in this sort of category I have seen is 'X' so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Trigun seems to fit the bill. Maybe not so much as global destruction happening but the world is pretty buggered! Its a great series, will have you laughing like a drain and has a good plot to. Id almost certainly check it out even it it didn't fit the bill.

"No one really knows what the 60 billion dollar-wanted-man named Vash really looks like, only what damage he has been fabled to have caused. Due to over 300 insurance claims filed by the inhabitants of the cities Vash the Stampede has supposedly demolished, the FIA has sent two claims inspectors - Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson - to find Vash and investigate / fine him for all the damage he has caused. Now Vash must not only deal with merciless bounty hunters, but hounding insurance companies too in a setting very reminiscent of such American westerns as Bonanza or Gunsmoke".

Eureka Seven
is another great anime and should you read through the pages of this thread you will see mainly good things about the series. Personally i loved the series, The animation is very detailed and well thought out, the music is awesome and the plot quite original. The only downside is that Eureka (the female protagonist of the animation) can become slightly annoying. There are also some great battles and overall it is one of the most complete anime's i have seen. Check it out!

"Excessive amount of time has passed since the human beings were driven from the Earth. Looking for a place to live peacefully, they finally found the Land of the Covenant. It was a desolate planet where the surface of the planet was covered by the substance similar to the coral, and there was an unknown ion called “Traver” in the air. They exploited the earth, and in order to use “Traver” effectively, they built huge towers. Under the towers, countries were built, and unifying these counties, the United States of the Towers was founded.
Several hundreds years have passed since then. Renton is a boy who lives with his grand father in a Tower Country, “Belforest”. He has a complaint about his life. He was the son of the Hero, “Adrock”, who saved the world from the disaster, “Summer of Love”, at the cost of his life. It became the burden on him. Furthermore, because his grand father is a mechanic, he has no choice but to take over his business.
Only his mental food is “Liff” which is a sport gliding in the air using “Traver”. He yearns for Holland who is a charismatic Liff Rider, and he wants to travel around gliding Liff like him believing that a big wave will come to him some day."

If you want something a little older then check out an old anime movie called Fist of the North Star. Great movie, pretty simple plot but its the action which takes the stage in this animated classic. Due to the simple plot its all to easy to give stuff away but the world is in peril, some humour in involved. Its just an easy watch that is very enjoyable. I must stress however that it is very violent and there is also (if i remember correctly) suggestion of rape in one small part of the movie so you might want to take that into consideration before watching.

"Following a cataclysmic nuclear war, the world teeters on the brink of complete destruction. Civilization is polarized into a degenerate society where opposing packs of marauding scavengers prey on helpless,
homeless nomads. For those who are lucky enough to survive the constant brutality and danger, it is a bleak existence. Life an death blur into abstractions. The only hope left for mankind is to find a hero worthy of becoming the next "Fist of the North Star" - an enlightened warrior - who is capable of leading those with the will to survive out of this barrenness into a new world. But in this savage no-man's land of shifting loyalties and power-hungry demi-gods, heroes are in short supply."

Back to the anime series's then Gundam Seed is a pretty good one to watch too. Here is a little extract i found about the series;

"The confrontation between the Earth Alliance (Naturals) and Zaft (Coordinators), which originated in economic friction, reached a stalemate. Ultimately, the two sides opted for the last resort of diplomacy - in other words, they went to war. Our story begins roughly a year later. Heliopolis, a resource satellite belonging to a neutral nation, is suddenly attacked by a Zaft mobile suit force. Their goal is to seize the Atlantic Alliance's newest Gundam mobile suits, which the Alliance has produced here amid total secrecy. The raid is successful, and Zaft captures four of the Gundams. Kira Yamato, a student at an industrial college, is drawn into the conflict when he is reunited with his old friend Aslan Zara. Tragically, Kira finds that his comrade Aslan and the other Coordinators are now his enemies. For patriotism's sake, Aslan sets out to defeat Kira. One against four... the battle of the Gundams begins!"

I hope this helps you out, if any of these don't tickle your fancy then let me know either on here or via PM and i will recommend others.

Thanks Spec, I'll be sure to have a look at Eureka Seven and the Fist of the North Star movie soon. As for Gundam Seed, for some reason I've never really got into it but i'll be sure to take another look at it.

Trigun is an awesome series, having the complete series myself I can definately say it's a worthwhile collection.

One new series I want to look towards is Full Metal Panic. Sure enough, I haven't watched too much of Full Metal Alchemist but it seems very interesting.

One little fact I learned today too: The second installment of the Ghost in the Shell movies does'nt come cheap on Blu-ray.

Full Metal panic is funny but kind of like a small part of Gundam mixed into it because of the Mecha action. I like it. they have a second season that I hear is just random.

i just started watching Death Note :D i stumbled upon it a few months ago, but didnt really pay it any mind. the intro was cool, but i couldnt find english subs.

i just stumbled upon english subs today :D

For those that lost faith in the series Bleach due to that awful Bounto arc im happy to say that bleach is past that and pretty darn good again. Now i remember why i watched the anime in the first place.

The anime is back to a fast pace and lots of things are happening which i personally didn't see coming partly because i forgot about the.

Its good to see it back on form and comes reccomended

metropolis, great film :D
Akira looks good but never looked into....
dokuro chan  now that's funny!

WARNING, some of it could be deemed 'dodgy' so watch out!

That sounds like a blessing in disguise. I loved the first Ghost in the Shell(total masterpiece), but the second one was a pure torture. :D

I was wondering if anyone knew what the release date of Ghost In The Shell S.A.C. Solid State Society is going to be for the U.S.? I did some looking around ans didn't find much. And also dose anyone know if and when the next Ghost In The Shell T.V. series is going to be released?

Your Help Would Be Much Appreciated

Well y'all, it's been a while, that's for sure.

So I've come here to mention that...
1) I saw the end of Eureka 7 finally.
2) I saw all but one samurai champloos and couldn't resist but to find the appropriate spoilers online.

So, have any of you done this?

Spoilers!@!@!@!@!@! (sorta)
Eureka 7 was a happy ending and "SC" was somewhere between Eureka7 and Cowboybebop (take that for what you will :sly: ).

I was happy to catch what I have but tonight was the night Adult Swim re-showed the last ep of E7. Something was wrong with the first airing (which I didn't notice). Sadly I missed the re-showing.

In any case, feel free to discuss whatever you wish.

It would be nice to know. The Wiki doesn't share much info, but I believe they were pointing to Adult Swim carrying the show as soon as possible, God only knows when that is of course...

...Personally, I like the show, but I'm usually more interested in the back-story and the events that had lead-up to the creation of the world in which they exist. The Wiki loves to shed some light on it, but personally speaking, it is never really enough to satisfy me. Of most interest to me is the 'American Empire' thing, by which has been explained in several different ways to me, none of which really make a whole lot of sense. It seemed like the western part of the US broke-off to form the 'Russo-Ameican Alliance', while the 'American Empire' (those being the central states) took over the middle portion of North America and the rest of Central and South America, and then what was left of the US remained the 'United States.' However, it is made to sound as though the entire setup still operates as one unit, under the banner of the 'American Empire,' which confuses me even more (I think...).

Meh, oh well.

---

One show that has really caught me off-guard and really has caught my fancy has been Shin Chan. It doesn't always make a whole lot of sense, and clearly it has been altered for the American market, but still, its a good time...

...I'm just wishing they would show FLCL again on AS. I love that show. It doesn't make any sense, but I love it...

can't believe that i miss this thread:ouch: . But anyways i finished watching Samurai Champloo too and still following Naruto.

I saw a new anime called Death Note, gonna watch that soon.

Got a question though. Do you like watching anime in Japanese with Subtitles or watching it english dubbed?

Great thread Kent:tup:

I prefer a well dubbed English version. If it is poorly dubbed, then I would rather watch it in Japanese with subtitles. Though I should also say, that in the end, it really does not make any difference to me, as a good anime is a good anime no matter the presentation.

And yes, Shin Chan is a rather odd and funny show. Before it, they had done some similar stuff to Lupin the Third on AS with the dubbing.

Cool:tup:. I saw Shin Chan dubbed in Dutch and it was funny though:lol:. But that was like 4 or 5 years ago.

So did anyone catch Eureka7's ending?
What was the situation? Did Renton and Eureka stay on earth in this dimension?
That's the way I took it, that they did stay here. :dopey:
It felt rare to see an anime end in a happy manner.
Did anyone else think things ended the same way?

I'd love to speak with the creators and writers, that would be a real treat.

SPOILERS!

The way i remember it is that renton gave up being a human so that he could still be with eureka. Eureka didnt think she could go back to the world where the gekko go etc is so to protect the world renton and be with Eureka becomes a coralin. There is a small glimpse of Eureka and Renton at the very end of EP 50. Also if memory serves me well Nirvash allows Eureka and Renton to live on the world where everybody else is but tells them that one day they will be reunited with the coralin, whatever that means

Heyo all; First time checking into this thread but I've professed myself as an anime fanatic for quite a while (at least relative to a bunch of other people).

Some of my favorites include the genre based on visual novel games (mostly eroge in nature, although the anime is relatively clean); Kanon, AIR and Shuffle! are top-notch, for one. Perhaps different tastes from a lot of you (I recognize very little of what you've been talking about...) but, to each their own.

What I'm here today for though is to bring up what's probably an old topic, but The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is finally getting a U.S. release on Tuesday! I'm very excited for one of the biggest anime in Japan to hit the States, and look forward to picking it up.

What do you all think about it? Will it catch on? Haruhi doesn't have a lot of material to work with at the moment, and I don't expect a public TV broadcasting or anything but I wonder if it'll be a big hit like some of the other direct-to-DVD anime in America. (which I'm not sure what exactly they are, but Full Metal Alchemist and a lot of Clamp's work seem pretty popular, at least around here)

With any luck we might be able to get perhaps an official translation of the novels as well...

So has anyone seen Macross Zero?
I've been watching clips of it and I'm mighty impressed.
Some awesome looking animation came from the dogfights in "M.Z." and I'm looking forward to watching the entire series.
Anyone else in this boat? :D

Is M.Z only a couple of Episodes? Otherwise, I have the wrong one.

and it seems that someone is a fan of Fate/Night or its titled something like that or was it Kannon?

This may be old.

This is how big Melancholy is in JPN and I am scared on how USA is going to respond with this anime coming here already.

I'm not sure how many episodes it is and I know there are others (like Macross Plus) that have only a few episodes.
I would post a video but we can't do that here on the GTP. None the less, I could encourage all of you to check out Macross Zero on whatever streaming video site you usually watch. :sly:
(I'm going to have to go ask if what I've just said is acceptable). :ouch: :dunce:

btw, those videos were awesomely geeked-out! :dopey:
