well, Dattebayo is good and somewhat reliable source.. and they update both series (Bleach and Naruto Shippuuden) reasonably quickly.

Dattebayo dislikes veoh. recently they stopped subbing everything since their hard work ended up to youtube, crunchyroll, veoh or such. and their quality is better than anyone elses. they didn't continue until such evens had diminished significantly.

Yes, it does put them in a rather comprising position legally, but streaming is just so much more convenient.

Streaming is bad for the community in several ways. Especially the sub groups :indiff:

Why don't you just download Kent? Its not time consuming or tricky these days...

F1 I like teh avatar, is that from the episode where everyone ate those tainted mushrooms? I think that's where Samurai Champloo got there idea for the "Toll Booth" episode (seeing that both are made from Genon).

So thats why DB stopped T-T. Freakin people, just to get a few good views on their accounts.

Well...
1) That Bebop avatar is from the Teddy Bear bomber episode when spike faces off with the million-aire who has constant identity crisises (ends up as a samurai riding a horse next to the police car holding the teddy bear bomber at the end of the episode).

2) I don't download generally speaking because... I don't know where to find downloads and I don't like jumping through hoops. Usually downloads require memberships or special downloader programs or some kind of torrent setup. I'm not down with any of that... I'm not cool enough in the anime community to keep up with most of what's going on with the covert ways to obtain anime.
Fact of the matter is, I usually stream because it's easy. If I can find a way that works out to be as easy I would certainly download (if that's what the community preffers) but for now I'm just getting by however I can.

That said, I'm headed off to look into "Dattebayo" right now. :sly:

Edit:
 Another perfect example of the anime community that alienates me every time I try...
Dattebayo is a torrent site with a serious attitude (looks at section called "banned" and sees repeated bannings for "asking about Naruto 205"). Seems to me like it's another typical anime site where everyone is highly knowledgable but doesn't want to share the wisedom, and highly touchy but doesn't really say what not to do or say.

I'm going to head off and spend a little more time there and see if I got them wrong (I hope so). I'll check the forums and see if people like me can even get the slightest bit of respect as a human (not even as an anime fan for longer than I can remember and a cartoon fan since even before that)... Usually these sorts of places don't take well to me because I'm not hip but I still love the stuff and since they don't know me they just assume the worst about newbs trying to expose and overcrowd the subject (only to ruin it as has happend with other stuff in the past?).

Bottom line:
It just seems like the kind of place where classics are under appreciated and new stuff is the rage until everyone knows about it and then it's not cool anymore. :indiff:

I really hope my initial impression is wrong because I'd love to get more involved with Dattebayo.

Edit:
My god was I right! :(
You should see the way they speak to people on that site who are simply asking dumb questions.
They are definately elitest who think they are cool for doing what they are doing... Which would be true if they weren't jerks about it (such as not posting shippuden 45 just to make one loud mouth angry  ).
They really seem like a group of immature, typical anime elitest. I'm sorry to see that being the case. :(

I'd really like it if they seemed cool. :indiff:

Further, I'm definately going to continue streaming and thinking about how that's a great way to anger Dattebayo... I mean what else can I do when I see a site that is so rude and so far from helpful (I mean, you guys should see how they respond to people asking about the last episode of Naruto and if there are any more... Sure it's not smart but then again, most people aren't smart about japanese cartoons that haven't been released in America  ).

Leonidae,
Please tell me something to help me understand the true nature (assuming I didn't peg it already) of the Dattebayo site. For now I'm hoping I'm wrong but if you don't tell me otherwise I may end up laughing my way to the streaming stations while marking up another victory for the predictability of internet savvy otakus.

Please tell me about them and help me to understand I'm wrong (also drop me some advice about the torrent stuff, assuming they are worth the effort since it seems their reliability is questionable after reading about shippuden 45).

I thought this was funny:lol:

Dattebayo
#4
It seems to me that Naruto says "dattebayo" a lot. What does it mean?

It means, "I'm gay."
Actually it means nothing at all. It's just something random that Naruto adds onto the end of almost all of his lines to annoy us. Please don't send us feedback telling us we're wrong because you've taken 3 weeks of Japanese classes or read differently on urbandictionary.com.

Before anyone gets upset about my initial impression of Dattebayo, let me ask this...

What kind of site takes pride in contributing to the community and becoming something of an authority on the subject while belittling those who contribute, wish to become involved, and share a common interest in the subject (which is anime in this case)?

Think back to when you first arrived at the GTP or when you see newbs here on the GTP... Do we go out of our way to feed them mis-information (such as what Dattebayo does with people asking about Naruto's last episodes)?

Do you ever see people get banned from the GTP because they ask about GT2000 or how to find "this car" in the used car lots?

I don't think so and I've gone out of my way to be a polite and helpful mod for my entire time at the GTP (with varying levels of success). :sly:
I don't think the people at Dattebayo have respect for almost anyone and I certainly didn't get the impression they wanted to help those who are just starting to entertain their interest in anime.

Here at the GTP, if you came along to get more into GT you would be accepted with open arms and helped as often with possible, at Dattebayo they seem to wanna keep anime to themselves and push away anyone who isn't already known as a big anime fan.

I just wasn't impressed with the conduct of the admin of Dattebayo.
Very disappointing. :(

That said, I point back to my original Dattebayo post and ask that any true Dattebayo users speak up and (politely) defend the name of Dattebayo while explaining where I went wrong in my understanding of the site.

Thanks!

Bad, unhelpful, or unfriendly forums of part of the reason I do not watch a lot of anime anymore. I do not feel like going through hoops to get information or where to find a series. It is also the same reason I do not do any downloading either. Every time I have tried, I have tried with a torrent client and the downloads were painstakingly slow, so I did not feel like messing with it. Streaming has been much easier and I have couple good sites linked in my bookmarks to it, which I occasionally use. My biggest problem when it comes to watching anime, and just about everything in general, is there is just not enough time in a day to do everything I would like . . . now maybe if we had 48 hour days instead of 24 hour ones, then I might be in business.

You just haven't tried hard enough. ;)

Direct downloads usually require free memberships, but if it's a multi-season series that you enjoy (like Bleach or Shippudden) then what does it matter? You don't have to interact with the general idiocy that show up on all those anime sites, you just want the downloads.
I've lost count of how many site memberships I've created for this very purpose. I've got an email address I use almost exclusively for that (and ironically, gets less spam than my primary address).

As for torrents, the best place I've found to go for new series is:
http://www.animesuki.com
Their list is updated almost instantly when some subbing group releases something (that is unlicensed). New releases are typically very fast to complete. It's not at all uncommon to see torrents with 2000+ seeds.

For older stuff or complete series... Suprnova used to be really good, before the got shut down and relaunched, and shut down, and relaunched again.
I use isohunt or piratebay... but if you don't have, you should get yourself a decent pop-up/adblocker and antivirus software before you dive in. I'm not saying these particular sites I use are dangerous (I would not continue to use them if they were loading me with adware and viruses), but sites of this nature hold that rep.
As mentioned by Vash though, you may have to be patient with these downloads - by nature, older stuff has way fewer seeds than something that just came out, but its good for the stuff that you can't find streaming anymore.

As clients go, it's hard to beat uTorrent. Very stable, doesn't use up a ton or resources, quite configurable, and just a great program.

The downloading thing really isn't very hard, and I've saved you half of the leg work right there. I can understand how someone would be apprehensive about it without sorta 'being shown the door', because there are a lot of sketchy sites out there full of hentai and softcore porn ads that want a lot of personal info or money to access episodes. Better off to ignore them.

 I just sent a PM to Kent detailing all that there TankSpank :p

Though I had forgot about Supernova entirely... I've gone almost exclusively to mini.

Torrents are the faster means though, as a lot of direct download's offered are heavily throttled (20kb/s) unless you pay up. Even then its about 200kb/s, while I can pull over 1,000kb/s on a heavily seeded torrent.

But, yes, I also have about a bajillion accounts on anime sites.

Well Kent, I understand were you coming from but there is the majority of Otaku's that post like 4chaners which is annoying. They want to understand certain rules of the internet. There is a website that I can give you, where you can just search for a title and to see if a certain database has one or the 4chan rapidshare link. Just talk to me on AIM or MSN for them.

Pretty much the truth right here. The anime community is a pretty messy place; fansubbers tend to be pretty cocky (since they have the power and are oh so much better than the fans that make them who they are), and forums are hit-and-miss as well. I've found that anime blogs tend to be the most respectable in terms of politeness and academic level, but maybe I'm just biased. ;) There are good sub groups out there, but unsurprisingly these are the ones that keep quiet... y'know how it goes; the bad ones always stick out. That's the way it goes, so I'd suggest getting used to it; this is the internet after all, and there's more of us no-life teenagers than you'd expect crawling in the woodworks.

I've found pretty much that in terms of getting anime I can rely on either torrents or direct download without having to jump through a lot of hoops or people (i.e. I keep my downloading and my discussing separate). I have a direct download place for fansubs that's easy to use and can pull around 100 kb/s (fast for me) if anyone needs it. Just PM me if needed. :)

On a more entertaining note, recently began watching Nodame Cantabile, a slice-of-life anime about a bunch of music students. I think the cast is very unique and entertaining, and would recommend it if you're into the slice-of-life genre. Any other fans?

Greatly appreciate all the advice!

I'm pressed for time right now but I just want to remind everyone that we need to be careful about these topics. We can't do anything that could be illegal and so I encourage all of you to use private messages for conversations that might be best in private. ;)

Glad to see I'm not alone though... It's always nice to know others feel the way you do, makes you feel a little less alone in this crazy world.

I always didn't get this picture.

Personally I haven't had bad experiences with dattebayo staff. true, they're cocky, moody, arrogant, have high self esteem, butthey also DO have good quality and they replace the faulty subs in no-time. in addition, their fanbase is so large that nearly any recent episode has arrived in about half an hour ( quite often I load both Shippuuden and Bleach from there at the same time.) I do not go to their forums, since I'm almost painfully aware that anime forums attract the biggest geeks..

I think the bold wraps it up but rude works well also.
Quality or not (as if they are the only site of that kind and of that quality), there's no excuse for taking advantage of power, treating people who appreciate you poorly, and generally being jerks.

If I went out of my way to shoot down and insult every newb on the GTP I might understand... Or even if dattebayo was the only sub group out there... However, that's not how I act and that's not how the mods of the GTP act.

There's just no excuse for their behavior and in the end their behavior only strengthens the opinions of those who stream and knock on the fools with false senses of importance.

dattebayo, as little as I've seen, has already proven itself/ themselves to be worthless. Flat out worthless.
Keep up with them if you want but I can say without any doubt that I will never be complimentary of them, I will never use their service, and I will always go out of my way to take advantage of the work they do (say hello to youtube piracy :sly: ).
(why appreciate those who don't appreciate you? )

Eh, they are the fastest out there though. I haven't paid attention to other services as of late.

Its all up to you though.

nk4e, you a KH fan?

I like the Organization XIII look. The cloaks are cool!!!! So I made my own Avatar, otherwise it would have small font saying" Organization XIII" But I am somewhat a fan.

Well its better late than never to post here......

This thread is just too much, I can't even follow what topic you guys discuss about. I'm just here to ask a few questions:
Does anyone know what happened to Wangan Midnight?
It seems it was the only anime that I could follow after Initial D, but the fansubs are just...... slow (yeah, slow......) I do always checked at the idforum.net website to get some updates, but there is just nobody thats gonna do a proper fansubbing. I know Nomake Wan (of idforum) did the first 2 episodes as OMFG (One Man Fansub Group), then he just liked stopped subbing the episodes. Then a few months later, another fansub came up, [HG-F], and subbed the 3rd - 6th episode, and then stopped again. Now the actual anime is at episode 12 and 13 and 14 may come around the corner!!! :scared: So really, I wish some fansub group would really get into it and not stop halfway. Oh how I wish dattebayo would sub WM for everyone.... :)

So do any of you guys could read Japanese, or that you did any fansubs before? I really wish I could watch WM again, kinda missing out a lot on the story.... :( Also, is there any animes thats something like ID or WM? I'm so bored right now and I don't know what to watch. Naruto is boring as 🤬 (but I still have to download the episodes for my cousin :grumpy:) and I don't follow many animes, so it might be really hard to get into it again......

In another news, I've just started watching FLCL, and it was like.... Really was impressed with the first 2 episodes (may watch the other episodes if I have time) and well, I fell in love with the characters...... Seems fast paced and all, but yeah, I enjoyed it very much. :D So does anyone watch FLCL as well?

Well Wangan as far as I know, is on its 4th episode. Because of Wangan doesn't attract many fans as Naruto or Bleach so people can't really make money off the traffic it can get for visiting their website. (I believe) FLCL is exactly the opposite from NGE but it is very fun to watch.

Odd, I always figured that a fansubber's service IS the work that they do.
You could always move over to ZOMG subs, they're the only other group doing the series in English AFAIK (they began with Shippuudden ep 43)

By deciding only to view from youtube/veoh, you aren't doing anything to hurt the subbing group at all. Dattebayo made a stink of people UPLOADING to streaming sites recently because it increases public awareness of their group (increased threat of more legal action against them), plus it kills the quality and makes their work look like crap.

Now, not to defend Dattebayo or anything like that, but it sounds like you're taking this stuff way way way too personally Kent.
You should know that this is the internet and people routinely act like the biggest douches they possibly can because its easy to get away with, and this sort of behaviour is extremely common in fansubbing and illegal software circles. For the casual anime fan, which I'd call you, you're really better off to just ignore it than to react publicly.

Wangan is way further than episode 4.. it's actually on 12 already or further, but the subbers just are slow.. I know one of them, ( former moderator of IDW), and.. well, it's his hobby, not his work.. anyway, check Here about WM's progress..

Edited for the good of everyone? :sly:

To get things on the right track...

What's this "slice of life" genre?
I'm guessing it's something like Love Hina without all the fanservice?

Btw, did you guys know that this thread hits its 5 year mark on Feb 15?
5 years already... It's odd to think about how long this thread has been here. :boggled:

Remember, remember the 5th of november. I miss Cano though I always that Cano was a girl. Don't forget LoneWolfe and Kirkis9

Indeed I remember them all.
I'm sitting here laughing to myself now about the first reply to the thread.
