What's DESU?
Right now my time is going towards Soul Calibur 3 as I attempt to honestly master mitsurugi (which seems near impossible). :boggled:
That reminds me...
Is there a Soul Calibur anime?
I'd be suprised if there wasn't... I mean, King of Fighters gets its own anime and SC doesn't?! I can't imagine that! :odd:

Desu is a suffix after each word in Japanese. Just like -dono, -chan, -san. It was popular after Rozen Maiden was released, I think. I tried learning the suffixes on Ragnarok Online though I forgot it. ^^"

There are alot of fighting games that didn't get the anime attention. Like Guilty Gear for example. Though Tekken has the movie( which was ok). Not alot of games get attention like that. Like KOF or Fatal Fury has.

This is probably the closest that SC will get to a anime

Namco X Capcom

I've seen that Capcom X Namco clip on TV. Back when I had "G4" and a show named "Cinematech" was playing they occassionally showed that clip. I remember it only now.
Based on that art I'd love to see a SC anime and based on the game I'd say it definately has a better story than almost any of the others. The story of something like Soul Calibur 3 could probably stretch without trouble all the way to a 26 episode run. 13 episodes would be nothing but fights and with art like the capcom X namco clip it would be awesome. 👍
We'll never see it though, you're right nk4e. :ouch:
Oh well... Btw, loved the Kenshin clip.

ya... the desu desu desu clip is at least 20x as annoying as the Kenshin 'oro' compilation (Kenshin = the power of awesome), or the Dokuro intro.

(question: how far into the Rozen Maiden desu compilation did you get? I bugged out at 17s)

While... amusing, the use of the f-word is not going to go over well with mods. You might want to remove those or just link to them.

Please tell me you aren't a /b/tard...

Well Wangan as far as I know, is on its 4th episode. Because of Wangan doesn't attract many fans as Naruto or Bleach so people can't really make money off the traffic it can get for visiting their website. (I believe) FLCL is exactly the opposite from NGE but it is very fun to watch.
Lol, I always tried to avoid watching NGE for some reason... I just don't like long and complicated anime series. I liked OVA's more than the TV series, (or the twice a month anime like WM) seems I just don't like to watch animes like I used to..... (even though I tried pretty hard) :(
Wangan is way further than episode 4.. it's actually on 12 already or further, but the subbers just are slow.. I know one of them, ( former moderator of IDW), and.. well, it's his hobby, not his work.. anyway, check Here about WM's progress..
Yeah, I visit IDW very often as a lurker (didn't bother to sign up) and I'm just disappointed that, well, the original DVD didn't come with subtitles..... :banghead: which justs makes it easy for them to upload the anime. I mean, if ID was very popular, why isn't WM getting the same amount of attention as ID? Besides, when is the 5th stage coming out?

Anyhow, can anyone reccomend me some good OVA's or any anime with a similar style to WM and ID? I was thinking of watching Cowboy Bebop or He Is My Master (both seems pretty interesting) so does anyone watch those animes? How good/bad do you think they are? Any suggestions are appreciated. :)

Cowboy Bebop is awesome.

Quite beyond awesome actually.

One of the single best anime of all time? More so that isn't over rated (NGE is over rated for example) and has a good mix of action, comedy, and the likes.

Hell, even the dub is pretty good.

And thats saying a lot from me.

I must really need to rewatch that or something. It's very good, and I did enjoy it, but I wouldn't put it in my top 5. I simply couldn't stand that most of the episodes feel like filler (albeit, pretty decent filler), and that only 6 or 7 episodes advance an actual story arc.

Plus the soundtrack is very, very good. There are hardly any super-annoying songs at all, the bebop Jazz really adds to it.

Makes me wonder what you're top 5 would look like... Care to fill us in?

I can put at least one on his: Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya :sly:

And I can tell you one that will not be on it for certain: Eureka Seven :dopey:

Sorry to bother again, but it Euraka Seven that good? I heard a lot about it.

Its good up till the last 5 episodes. Then things just slowly get worse and worse.

Well, up till the last 15 minutes. Then it just completely craps on itself in a pile of fail.

The first 40 or so episodes are pretty good though. In my opinion. Is it worth watching? Probably. Though again, the ending is just :grumpy:

👍

I've enjoyed different types of anime for different reasons. I've been sitting here for about 20mins trying to limit it to 5, and I keep thinking of one more I'd really want to put on the list, so I gave up on the hardcap.

This is a list of some that I've found myself particularly immersed in, and unable to pull myself away from (in no particular order):

Rurouni Kenshin
Gungrave
Haruhi Suzumiya
FMA
Gundam Seed + Destiny
Peacemaker Kurogane
Serial Experiments Lain
Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Trigun
X TV
Samurai Champloo
Last Exile (strange, but interesting)

I see. Can i ask whats it about?

Woot for Last Exile!

I never finished Lain... computer got jacked with the episodes on it. Reminded me of it, maybe I should go find it again.

Maybe. :sly:

Its a mecha anime somewhat in the nature of NGE or such, but with surfing (if that makes sense)

I could go find a synopsis, but it would just whatever the Wiki tells me (since the wiki knows all :dopey: )

Lain is only for those who can take heavy head trips. My brain nearly exploded half way into the series.

Last Exile is a "Diamond in the rough" type anime, it's an absolutely awsome anime.

👍

Wow, it suprises me to see a few I know. :dopey:
Kenshin, good, everything through kyoto.
Gungrave, not a particular fan. :indiff:
Haruhi... What? Don't know it.
FMA, one of mine as well.
Seed and destiny. :indiff:
Peacemaker... What? Don't know it.
S.E.L... Not bad but not a fav of mine.
Shingetsutan... What? etc...
Trigun, great, maybe on an extended favs list of mine.
X TV, only know the movie.
Sam champ... Not bad (prefer bebop though).
Last Exile... Don't know it and it's the first one on the list I don't know that I've heard about outside this thread and want to checkout. 👍

My list... Same deal, no particular order...
Bebop
NGE
Naruto
FMA
Bleach
Macross Plus (if OVA counts)
Akira (if I can include only one movie although there are more for this side of the list)... :ouch:

I'll go on to mention less favorite but still favorite... :dunce:
08th MS Team
0083 Stardust Memory
GITS Season 1
Tenchi (Universe I think it was)
Kenshin
Sam Champ
Trigun
Dual (cheesy NGE/Tenchi mix can't go wrong with me ;) )
Lupin ( 👍 👍 )
FLCL
Eureka 7 (I didn't think it went to crap but I can understand that if you're not big on sappy love stories)

I'm sure I'm forgeting some of the greats I've enjoyed and a few that are great that I just don't want to mention (enter Gundam Wing, a little DBZ, and maybe Fist of the North Star). There is just so much out there! :D

I think one issue to mention is the difference between Bebop and Champloo... Champloo always seemed to be moving but the characters never really seemed to develop or change. The story didn't seem very deep but the voice-over was good and the animation/action was amazing. Bebop on the other hand (I'm a fanboy here to some extent), was absolutely awesome... Everything about the show was awesome. Even though it seemed slow moving at times, the amount of character development was incredible. Where champloo would do filler with fun garbage and re-caps, Bebop did filler that developed characters and touched on the dramatic (such as sympathy for the devil, which showed spike's hard-headedness early-on and also revealed some of the potential for story telling that is eventually fully realized throughout the series).

All in all, I love my anime, it's all I really watch TV for anymore... I can honestly say I don't go out of my way to watch TV except for with anime (on the pc or tv) (although I love Jeopardy).

Kent, I can handle big sappy love stories. I can not handle absurdly random things happening, combined with super, and I do mean super, cheesy things.

I can only handle so much cheese, so to speak.

Top 5 you say?

Cowboy Bebop
Last Exile
Ouran Host Club
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Full Metal Alchemist

Not in any horribly particular order.

Initial D is almost on there, but well, yeah.

well My top 5 has changed since mid summer:

1. Elfen lied/Gundam Wing
Emotionally driven and it's awsome for that.GW,even with it's annoying female fanbase ,is a pretty BA anime (even if it isn't the best one).

2.FLCL-
Random but fun. Great Replay value

3.Cowboy bebop-
Great fun and great non-cliche ending!

4..Evangelion-
Great Pshyco- mecha hybrid and still wrecks my brain!

5. Last Exile-
A great anime that flies under the radar!

honorable mention:

Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, DBZ,A!MG,Bleach,Serial Expirements Lain, and Eureka 7.

Top 5
1 RK series
2 Gundam Wing ( or 08th MS team)
3 Neon Genesis Evangelion
4 Cowboy Bebop
5 Too many to List

heh, I'm just a little surprised (but glad) that I'm not alone on the Last Exile thing. I had no idea that it was this widely appreciated because I never hear much hype over it, it was one of those ones that I just sorta stumbled upon for no particular reason. That's part of what I like about it though - in my mind it hasn't been tarnished by the same sort of overhype that some other series receive (ie, Cowboy Bebop?), so it completely over-delivered on the expectations I had set for it in my mind. It's got great story, not too cliche, has an innovative blend of different genres and ideas, and graphically it is stunning (very!).

I should rewatch it after I finally see Death Note.

After enough talk about last exile I decided to take a look around the net. :dunce:  I've seen the show (not all of the series). They used to show that on Tech TV with Dual, Lain, and Gungrave.
I was sitting there thinking I recognized the name... After looking it up on youtube I recognized the a male character with dark hair and then saw those planes... The plane gave it away... Everything had an old 1920s art style, the planes look like old cars, the gauges in the planes looked normal... Everything has a feeling of "this is the future of old technology."

I never got to see much because it didn't suck me in but looking at the art style I can instantly see why I stopped to watch what I did. Looks great and character design isn't outrageous (sort of looks like the same work as that from Lain).

Maybe I'll give a try agian and see what I'm missing. :sly:

About over-hyped anime and whatnot... I hear you, I totally understand it and that goes for more than just anime. :ouch:
Everyone handles life differently and what constitutes "over hyping" is totally dependant on each of us as individuals.

CB, not at all over hyped to me but that's because I consider it one of the best anime series ever made. Likewise for NGE (although NGE isn't as good as CB in my opinion)... NGE seems to me like the original psych-anime. Further, by comparison, NGE is less popular in my eyes as an american. I see people with CB shirts from time to time and even meet people who have seen the series on a regular basis. NGE on the other hand- No one I know besides a handful of anime geeks knows of NGE.

All that aside, I caught AppleSeed last night (hadn't seen it in years) and just now I caught some great GITS where batou was being made fun of by the guys of section 9 for crying after motoko was allegedly killed (I think it is the last episode of season 1).

You should read Death Note to truly appreciate it. There is no way they can cram all the dialog and thinking Light does into it.

Last Exile has some of the best animation I have ever seen. I can't think of a single point where things seemed lazy, ever, in the entire series off the top of my head.

On the other hand, Eureka Seven... well, they fall into over reusing animations at times.

God, my friend hyped that a bit too much. And the ending... I still can't get over the ending... :yuck:

Oh, and add Full Metal Panic to my list of good anime. Its got its facepalm (this needs to be a smilie, now) moments, but its got a good mix of mechs, action, comedy, and cutesy moments to entertain just about anyone.

Lol, Cowboy Bebop sounds good to watch, maybe I should go and download it. :D As for Last Exile, its 🤬 awesome!!! (even though I never watched it) Yeah, I don't really really watch anime a lot. But I could list down the ones that I have watched.....

My so called top 5:

1. Samurai X (or better known as Rurouni Kenshin)
2. Initial D (cause I love cars and drifting.... :D)
3. Vandread (good storyline and CG, but feels too short at 20+ episodes)
4. Ranma 1/2 (best anime series that I have watched. Very funny and child like about the show)
5. FLCL

These are also the animes that I have watched....

Metropolis (the most awesome anime ever!!!! One of Osamu Tezuka's best work. Too bad it was a movie and not a series..... :()
Galaxy Angels
Wangan Midnight (obviously....)
Onegai Twins
School Rumble (didn't finish watching the whole episodes....)
and probably some others that I have forgotten.....

So like, now I must get Bebop and Last Exile, is there any other animes that is good as well. Has anyone watched Steamboy or Blood+? Need some recommendations before I completely waste my time downloading them....

...I know I've seen Vandread, but without going to animenfo I can't for the life of me remember a thing about it...

So like, now I must get Bebop and Last Exile, is there any other animes that is good as well. Has anyone watched Steamboy or Blood+? Need some recommendations before I completely waste my time downloading them....

Blood+ isn't too bad, but I had to be in the right mood for it (whatever mood that was?). There were days where I could do 5 or 6 eps no problem, and others where just 1 ep would seem to drag forever and it felt like a total chore to watch.

I was discussing this series with someone the other day, and I couldnt remember if I ever even finished it.

I'd add The Legend of Galactic Heroes to the list. it might seem boring at first.. space battles, conspiracies, politics.. but the plot is good and kept me addicted for a while.
