No. I think Sephy is right.

She really is not that good.

I read a few reviews
You didn't even read them right, goddamn it. It's like you stopped reading, read an NGE review and then resumed.

Thus it annoys me when people bring up, say, something being in the #2 place on MAL as if it's important or even a truly valid measurement of how good an anime is.
No, I was not saying that it was a valid measurement of how good it was. It just makes me happy that lots of MALers love it too, and it's higher than Steins;Gate ;)

Nine-section staff? Are you aware of how delightfully pointless that would be in a battle?
Pointless? Yes, but it would also be stylish.

Yeah, nobody here knows or cares aboot it, but the last Naruto double ep was pretty sweet, and the last Gintama was freeking awesome, goddamn I want the next ep naow.! So yeah, TC's post about rankings was spot on in this case. In my mind, I am Gintoki, flinging a booger at you all who don't get it, and then slicing you all into pieces with my katana that is not wooden.
I have yet to see that. It's going to be the highlight of my Thursday afternoon. I already read the manga for what it's going to cover, but one thing is for sure, it's one of the highlights of the series.

As for Gintama, if I was caught up I'd be posting about it with you. I'll probably get back to it after I'm done with the Slayers franchise (Which I'll be dealing with in April after I hit episode 205 for One Piece.). It'll take a while as there's so many sequels.
Guilty Crown doesn't need to make sense, it's already making dollars.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. Depends on if the later volumes flop in sales. Volume 1 sales can be misleading. The Amazon Japan reviews are all over the place for volume 2, and volume 3, it's got a 1/5. Don't know if this is a sign otaku are very displeased with the show or what.
I update my scores from time to time.

In any case it seems like some of you are taking the MAL ratings pretty seriously. Take them with a grain of salt. If you want to bitch about scores, go to Rotten Tomatoes.
This.

Ah 🤬, don't tell me it's on its way to having sold out ALREADY. Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box 2 had the "More Arriving Soon!" status after I ordered it from Rightstuf back in August (I think I got the last copy they ever had.), and weeks later, they changed it to "No Longer Available For Purchase". I want to get Madoka in the LE format!:grumpy:

Also, seems Fate/Zero might follow Garden of Sinners footsteps in selling out before it came out. It's now back on the "Hot Pre-orders" section of Rightstuf. Guess them updating the page with better cover art and stuff helped. Glad that I'll be pre-ordering it tomorrow. Hopefully I manage to get it before it sells out.

Great, no episode 16.:(Though at least they're honest and know how to word things like this correctly. NIS America, you're doing good in explaining why episode 16 of Kimi ni Todoke will be missing. When FUNimation makes statements like these, they word it poorly to where it just makes people more angry and confused.

Pointless? Yes, but it would also be stylish.

Stylish? If you want stylish, go no further than painting everything red and covering it in drills. Though drills are also impractical in battle. Unless you fire them like a bullet, in which case OH GOD MY CHEST IS GONE

Lain, your breath be wastin'
just stop hatin'
before your medicine you be tastin'

I take ratings pretty seriously too and get bitchin' and hatin', but that's because some people don't understand how tier lists work. And no it's not subjective either, tier lists are structured very mathematically, and last time I checked, you can't say that 1 = 2. :p

I know I'm essentially wasting my breath when arguing with TheCorvette, but it's entertaining. Nonetheless, as far as I'm aware he hasn't provided any sort of rebuttal against my last post in response to his, so I'm done.

My response to Sephy was just to make sure he understood that I don't care about MAL's overall ratings. When TC brings up that an anime is #2 on MAL, it doesn't make me angry or upset with MAL. It makes me annoyed with TC.

It would be neat if the scores were more meaningful, but I've given up hope for these averages of different people's different ways of scoring things to hold any true meaning long, long ago... or more specifically, about the time I noticed that the latest and greatest theatrical releases would instantaneously jump to high positions on IMDB's Top 250 due to popularity and people scoring like rabid fanboys since the movie's very fresh in their minds.

But anyway, I think I got a scheme that'd help eliminate a good amount of bias in average scores. To implement it, I'd need to create my own anime list site, but hell I might just do it. As a part of my anime guide project, y'know... :sly:

The scheme works like this: Users don't give scores. Instead, they have two lists: one for anime that they liked/would recommend, and one for anime that they disliked/wouldn't recommend.

They arrange the items on these lists in order of how much they liked/disliked them. Behind the scenes, percentages of the list correspond to numerical scores for overall averages. The liked list corresponds to scores 6-10, with the top 20% being 10, the next 20% being 9, etc. Likewise, the disliked list corresponds to scores 1-5, with the top 20% corresponding to 1, and going up from there.

That way it's impossible for users to just give all their favorites a 10/10. They're all automagically spread out through the whole spectrum of scores in a logical way. And the scores are automagically updated whenever a user places a new anime somewhere into their list.

The only downside to it is that users have to decide how to arrange their favorite anime, which can be difficult to decide. But that's a minor complaint for a system that I believe will result in more meaningful overall averages.

We should have a goddamn community play date in Halo: Reach or something.

I don't do CoD so don't mention it. 🤬 CoD now, it lost it's touch after 2.

@Lain, you do realize how much of a problem that would be when someone has seen A LOT of anime right? Try Archaeon, one of the most respected reviewers on MAL. His list is so large, the "All Anime" tab doesn't work. It gives you a message saying those with 1500+ entries have the "All Anime" tab disabled.
"All Anime" is disabled for lists with greater than 1500 anime entries.
http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Archaeon&status=2&order=0

Also again, everyone's rating system is different, and no system is right or correct. It bugs me when people make someone's rating system being poor seem like it's a fact.

Now with rabid fanboy scores, do I just give the 6/10's, 7/10's, 8/10's, 9/10's, and 10/10's I give for the hell of it with no reason? When I rate a show, I give it the score that I think it deserves. Though that score isn't something everyone will share. The scores are subjective as the overall quality of a show is subjective, never objective.

Is it a fact that the EoE movie is a 10/10 masterpiece better than every other anime ever made? No, it's an opinion, and you shouldn't hold it against someone if they think it's the best or the worst anime ever as it's their opinion, not yours. It's not something you should force on others.

You're not exactly happy with the scores people here gave Steins;Gate, but you know what, it's their business, and their scoring system (Which being broken isn't a fact.) is their scoring system. I may not understand why Steins;Gate got many 10/10's from people I know, but it's not something I'll hold against them.

I'm James Eastman, and I under-appreciate this message. ;) 👍

Not that I'm hating on Halo or anything... Halo > Steins;Gate > Call of Duty...

It's just that I'm in the middle of the ****ing ocean. Thus I'm unable to connect to XBL or PSN for weeks. :p

There can be workarounds for this.

Also again, everyone's rating system is different, and no system is right or correct.
Individually, yes. No system is right or wrong. But that's why averaging everyone's scores, since people score in different ways, results in numbers that are meaningless. The system I propose allows people an easy-to-understand way for people to rank the anime they've seen, and behind the scenes generates scores that lack the bias of different scoring methods and thus can be averaged with scores generated from other users in a meaningful way.

"I think Mari's gonna kidnap you for saying that."
"I've got a surprise waiting for her if she tries." :3

So, we do PS3 then. GT5 or something.

I curse you all out, you curse me out, we're BFF's. Simple.

^ Let the maternal insults begin! :trouble:

If we are playing anything it should be GT5, ofc. What's best is loli won't be there :p
I just heard my heart shatter into a million pieces. Like someone grabbing a glass out of a kid's hand, throwing it in front of a bus and then throwing the kid at it too.

Watching Mayo Chiki 1, OMG HIS SISTER *watches more* OMG KANADE.

I'd like to play a PS3 game with you T-12, but... I'm afraid you're going to spoil TTGL for me when we talk on headsets.

Your face. Loser.

I'll spoil Guilty Crown every goddamn week, and then laugh about it. :p

I'll spoil Witchblade... which had a completely ridiculous ending and a character built up for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

I just watched Ep. 1 as well. It's good.

I still need to get GT5. I have only GT3 and GT4, but have hardly played them.

You have 3 and 4. The moral? Do not go into GT5 expecting a similarly fun experience. Don't even go into it expecting everything Prologue had.

So GT5 isn't better at all, and is much less fun?
