Oh my.
Uh, holy crap. It's almost successfully funded...
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1300298569/under-the-dog

[Edit]Make that more than 100% funded now.
Why would you do that, community?!

I understand why people would want something like that, But the production team is asking for an unusual amount of money. Plus, I've already voiced how much I dislike crowdsourcing...

An unusual amount? Do you even anime production (They even linked to these articles in their description. I read these when they were brand new though.)? Also they have a breakdown of everything here.
$580,000 - Total - Broken down as follows:

--------------------------------------------------------------

$232,000 - 40% - Animation Production - This is the budget for the actual design, direction, and animation of said 24 mins. Note the project will actually cost closer to $350,000.

$174,000 - 30% - Backer Rewards - Budget for reward production, warehousing, shipping, etc.

$87,000 - 15% - Pre-Production - Money we would like to recoup from investing our own funds in the trailer (of which we have actually spent in excess of $100,000)

$29,000 - 5% - Operational Costs - Budget for operational costs such as daily staff, web hosting, paying bills, etc.

$29,000 - 5% - KS fees - KS levies fees for all KS campaigns. They need to make their money too

$29,000 - 5% - Amazon Credit Card fees - The fees from Amazon Payments

Trigger was being a bit insane there, and they also didn't follow the Kickstarter rules fully. You need to use ALL of the money for what you say you were going to use it for. That would mean more LWA past what they said they were going to make, but that didn't happen. So that extra money became profit, instead of additional LWA 2 footage.

Where is this stated...? I cannot find anything that explicitly says you must use all the money.

Also, I think that Trigger may have used Kickstarter funds in conjunction with regular investment methods. It would make a lot of sense.

It's what I heard from many that look closely. I haven't bothered to look. Also regular investment methods would have resulted in a production committee... (I highly recommend you read the ANN article I linked to. It's written by someone who used to work for the anime licensor Central Park Media before they went bankrupt) It's doubtful. And the first LWA was funded through the Japanese government's Anime Mirai thing anyway.

Nothing in the Kickstarter rules pages says that, so I don't think that's true.

Yes, I do have a slight knowledge as to how anime is produced. I'm not a dolt, really. Besides, what's wrong with production committees?

It prevents you from being as creative as you want, and makes it REALLY difficult for adaptations to be completed. Want to know why KyoAni for example is able to do whatever they want? They are in charge of what they make, not just some hired studio.

With the production committee system, that's not really possible for other studios.

Holy 🤬 🤬. Bokurano got licensed! Time to delete the fanbsubs off my HDD and get the DVD as soon as it comes out.

TiR is back after a two week break:

Lisa's gone from potential trump card to captured. Twelve's split and I'm not exactly sure what to make of his "I don't have time" comment. The way that whole scene played out seemed like he (they) don't have long to live. Though it wouldn't surprise me much if this was a suicide mission from the start with RPA being the target.

As soon as Five implied they didn't have a future I immediately suspected a limited lifespan. Must be some of the tests and experiments that were conducted on them. How unfortunate.

Either that or exposure to the Plutonium they stole. But that would lead to more visible side effects.

There's also Five who was suffering from sudden sharp head pain at one point. Her comment afterwards sounded like she could be ruing imminent death too.

The way I see it, the committee will take your idea as long as it will make money. Which means it has to be good in some way or another :P

Perhaps it varies with each committee (in terms of what kind of story they want.)

That Kill la Kill OVA was da bomb. I'd forgotten how much sheer fun that show is, it's a little nostalgic given all the Anime I've watched since!

The "I don't have time" comment definitely has a death flag going.

This show went from potentially good to hella mediocre.

I was down for more games, but if it's going to boil down to "Saving Hopeless Lisa".... then I'm done with this show.

Yeah, I thought there would be more games too. I guess production is trying to close the show since it's pretty short. Maybe it could go better in the end. We'll just have to wait and see.

Not brilliant-good, but entertaining-good. This episode was weak, and it's going to keep being weak if...

Twelve's going to go all softie pacifist for the rest of the show.

Even in terms of enjoyment if falls flat. Want to know one huge reason why? The characters aren't interesting really, at all. I have not been able to give a crap about them since, ever.

Shibazaki is, and always has been, the one character I give a crap about.

Doesn't help that I've never liked Twelve from the get-go, while Nine and Lisa haven't done much besides acting all icy and Lisa's more of a ditz than I gave her credit for. Five is just "Teenage Ragyo" minus the clothes obsession at this point.

I think I'm coming back to this more for the art style than the characters.

Samesies.

TIR is riding on a 7/10 so far. It may just drop to a 6 if it continues to be lame like last episode. :grumpy:
