Speaking of unnecessary sexualisation, every time I think about the infection of Eva-03 in Rebuild 2.0, the more I get creeped out. It doesn't help that I have the bare bones of a couple of Rebuild fanfics floating around in my head.

Also, @eXtaticus, IIRC wasn't that "Five Guys" rumour proved to be bullcrap? That put me off #GamerGate TBH, because I keep wondering - where was this demand for ethics in games journalism when Ubisoft were handing out iPads at their press conference?

In spirit of the sexualisation topic, I checked out the first 2 episodes of Highschool DxD today...

All I have to say is, "Yup, it appears to not hold back:odd:" You guys were right.

My 2 cents: We're in a day and age where sex seems to be more acceptable now instead of taboo. So because of that it seems writers and artists wanna get extremely creative now with such aspects. Like it's their muse of sorts.

In other news, I miss Mirai Nikki, I enjoyed watching that. I'll look for something similar, any suggestions?

I believe in the 90s, artists gave alot of sexual and violent hints. Though we have a thin wall to tell the general media what is taboo and what isn't. Studies show us how the " average person " is effected and how; but when it comes down to a personal opinion. The barrier will always be broken until someone will grasp it with a iron grip that everyone or no one will agree upon.

You could always watch Noaki's Monster.

@DK, even if it wasn't BS, it still wouldn't justify any of the things that Zoe Quinn and seemingly any woman who has spoken out about it since have been put through, let's be honest. Stealing people's personal information, posting it online, and then sending them death/rape threats can never be justified. It wouldn't be justified to do it to Kim Jong Un, it wouldn't be justified to do it to head of Ubisoft, and it most certainly wouldn't be justified to do it to some random indie dev who made a browser game.

/rant of obviousness over.

Yeah, anyway, as I say, I dislike cheap sexualisation when it's plonked into things. Sex and sexuality can be a well utilised part of a story. FLCL would be a great example of this. Little, if not nothing, in FLCL serves to titillate, yet it uses sexual imagery and innuendo to other means (which probably explains how it can have that much sexual stuff and be a BBFC 12 rather than an 18) in terms of illustrating Naota's experiences of going through the awkwardness of hitting puberty.

On the other end of the spectrum you have stuff which is JUST cheap titillation, and, unless it can be seen to in some way be encouraging abuse, harassment, or assault, is completely fine. No one's going to watch it and be made to feel unnecessarily uncomfortable, because it does what it says on the tin.

The other thing, of course, is that there's nothing wrong with feeling an attraction to a fictional character, especially if they're not in a live action work. Characters work as characters because we think of them as people, even if we really know that they're not; and as a result people grow attached to them and may even start to feel a bit infatuated. There's a reason there are so many fangirls on fanfiction websites in love with Eddy Mocking or whoever, and that's fine. Other people might think it's weird, but it's their mind, and nobody has the right to play the thought police.

Honestly, I think it's often more in the case of editors turning to their artists/writers going "hey, make that girl look and/or be more sexually attractive" with the intention of increasing the audience's attention...

Don't forget entertainment is also a business (more than it is an art these days). Getting money matters more to most people than the art of carefully constructed highly delicate pieces of writing. The consumers (that's us) obviously don't value their profit as much as they do, and that's one reason why we can hold our opinions against theirs so easily.

That of course isn't to say there aren't any artists/writers who want to recreate their own dirty fantasies. Writing is a way to spread your fantasy to begin with. Those who do are already writing them doujins and H-material anyway.

TL;DR: Japan is weird, Haruhi -sama needs to save this thread.

This reminds me of the game Hatred. Basically you play an antagonist whose only desire is to kill innocent people. And that's the only thing you do in the game. Apparently it's still Greenlit on Steam in spite of its massive controversy, and recently got an AO rating.

Bokurano is similar to Mirai Nikki. It's got the survival game theme going.

Reposting from my TVTropes post:

News on the U.S release of the second Persona 3 movie:

Still way overpriced, but I'll probably cave at some point; here's the links to preorders if you can't access ANN for whatever reason.

>People like fanservice.
>Media gives them excessively jiggly boobs, skirts getting blown on, and other cheap (imo tasteless) thrills.
>People pay money for this.
>Media interprets this as a reliable profit technique.
>Consequentially, because fans know no other forms of fanservice, this is the only kind they can possibly know and like.
>Media observes fans to see what fanservice they like. Sees just that. Convinced there is no "better" way, not even going to try something more creative.
>Cycle repeats. No one breaks from the loop.

If Media produced other forms of fanservice, they wouldn't continually need to rely on the same (imo tasteless) tricks to get the male audience eye-humping their computer monitors engaged with the show.

If I got the message right, I have to say I agree. Sometimes adding any sort of sexual element where it isn't needed can really ruin a work. No names on specific works here but I can think of quite a few anime that are very popular in this thread that I just can't bring myself to watch due to the constant use of panty shots and short skirts on girls that can't be more than 12 years old. It ruins stories for many more than people will ever know simply because many people will not even give anime a chance due to these cliches.

Just think of how different the Luc Besson film would have been if they used a 19 y/o drug addicted stripper trying to reform and go into college instead of an innocent 12 y/o.

Frankly, I'd much rather see The Professional with the 19 y/o instead of the 12 y/o.
I know something else that gets ruined when there are 12 year olds around.

Does know what anime this girl is from :indiff: Says anime_protagonist as the name? So i'm guessing shes from a anime but which one?

Thanks Downhill Dino.

I haven't been able to check this for a long time.
Is Mirai Nikki even worth watching? I heard it was rather generic.
^ Mirai Nikki has its moments, I generally like it simply because of the cliffhangers and plot twists! :)

If you can put up with the whiniest character ever then go for it.
^ I should include Shinji Ikari among the 'whiniest heroes' category. :indiff:

I'm not hungry for thought-provoking anime, I'm more simple minded.
^ That is why I tend to watch ecchi-harem for a reason. It makes me laugh and smile as my stress level diminishes! 👍

That's why I have One Piece to watch.
^ Same reason why I still have Bleach on my CR quere... :D
