Asuka impressed me in the film. That battle of hers was pretty awesome, although I would have expected a more heated location for such a battle, Her death was pretty gruesome if I'm honest (as in that last blow you see her taking, getting her arm chopped in half by the Lances. What was really depressing for me though was the state she was actually in once the world comes back. I was expecting a much happier scene, and while I'd seen it say she was patched up, I wasn't expecting that much of them.

Regarding CLANNAD season 1:

Overall it's not too bad. It has quite a few likeable characters. I think Tomoya should be with Kotomi instead of Nagisa though seeing as they are childhood friends and that would be a sweeter love story. I don't get how Tomoya is a delinquent. So he shows up late and doesn't tuck his shirt in. OK...

Also the Tomoyo arc thrown in at the end of the season doesn't fit and is completely pointless. Actually while updating my Anime-Planet list I see that the two arcs are DVD specials. I'm gonna go ahead and watch the Kyou arc before I begin After Story to get it out of the way. In the end I think I'm gonna give season one 3 stars.

It was the images of her at the end that got me. Perhaps it was just me not expecting her to be in such a state, but either way it was depressing for me...and the way it's just her and Shinji as well, and how they each just react...it's saddening for me.

My own personal hypothesis is that Shinji has cracked. Perhaps he, in his deranged state, thinks that the only way to prove that the Asuka on the beach was real was by choking her. I know, it's a crap hypothesis. :indiff:

Maybe so. Don't know if it may have anything to do with the previous confrontation with them in the flashbacks...and even so, why would be bother to strangle her to try to prove that?

EDIT: Actually...there's a quote that says “Shinji renounced the world where all hearts had melted into one and accepted each other unconditionally. His desire… to live with ‘others’ — other hearts that would sometimes reject him, even deny him. That is why the first thing he did after coming to his senses was to place his hands around Asuka’s neck. To feel the existence of an ‘other’. To confirm [make sure of] rejection and denial.”

Also, I wanna watch the Rebuilds on stream with some of you guys, so if possible...please?

Judging how he never did anything productive after school with Sunohara, he doesn't sound like a committed student.. and he would always pull pranks on people, especially on Sunohara. We just don't see that side of him after he meets Nagisa which the first thing we see in the show anyway.

The last Episodes in each season are other arcs... they aren't suppose to fit in with the season (obviously), so you can't exactly dock the show marks for that.

P.S. Kotomi is weaksauce.

In my post I added how I found out the arcs are DVD extras so I am not taking points off the show for that. I will watch the other arc though before I watch After Story. Anyway I see what you mean about Tomoya now and I am looking forward to After Story. Season 1 still gets 3 stars (out of 5 btw) from me.
