Patton was a great man. Not only was he a tactical genius, he is also one of the best people to quote.

Now I offer you another of his quotes, "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't".

Nice 👍

Just to tie that into anime, I would say that quote could serve as a line from Fist Of The North Star... specifically from Ken Shiro. :D

I mean, I really liked FOTNS, but it wasn't for the animation. In fact, the animation quality of Fist is pretty bad compared to the current standards (then again it was a series from something like 1985, sooo... :indiff: )

But still...
That quote fits Ken Shiro perfectly.
If you've seen the show you know what I mean.

Btw, sorry to hear you didn't like Ghost seito, but hey, at least you gave it a try. :D

Patton was a loony son of a *****..all of those polo accidents went to his head. Now Guderian and Rommel, were some real commanders.

(NOTE) I liked Ghost in the Shell, but it wasn't that great. If it had some nudity I would like it more. (The old game was realllly fun though)

I haven't seen that series anime. But the first thing I thought when I heard it is Wolfwood from Trigun. Since he says something along the line of "May God have mercy on all your souls" at one time or another in the series.

Well actually seito,
Ghost in the Shell had plenty of nudity.
But it wasn't really sexual, it was more part of the story than anything else (no sex though).

Vash,
Fist of the North Star is probably easy to find on the net, so the story you can find on your own.
However, the part I wanted to mention to you is with regard to the quote we had been throwing around...

Ken Shiro is merciless throughout the entire series.
People beg for their lives and all he does is explode their heads and bodies (literally) with the power of hokto sekan.

Yeah, if you haven't seen that show you might want to just check out some sites or something.

It would be almost impossible to collect all the episodes, and I know you don't like renting, so the movie might be out of the question.

But whatever the case, Fist of the North Star is definately an intresting pick in the history of anime. 👍

Yes! Boobies! That is definitely great!

How many episodes of Fist are there? I might just go see if Blockbuster even has the movie to rent just so I can see it. Is the movie like live people or anime? I just looke Fist of the North Star on BestBuy.com and it kinda looked like live people to me by the cover. Or are there two movies or what?

Yeah, actually there are 2 movies.

There is the original animated movie and a live action movie.

Live action really sucked (seen it).

Anime was great. 👍

Lots of violence and a really classic story.

Now, I know I use that word "classic" quite a bit.
However, this is no joke, FOTNS has a classic story.

Try to find the movie.
As for how many episodes...
I watched 2 episodes a week for the longest time, and you know what? I never got to see anything beyond the mid-point of the story.

It really is a great little show though.
Although it should be noted that the animation is old and might not be what you expect.

Still though, I liked it, so try and check it out if you can. 👍
Just remember, anime good, live action bad.

Also, yes, boobies are good.

Well I might see if I can find the animated movie then. Is the animation like say Lupin III or worse than that?

And now I think I might ask about Evangelion. What is your take on it? I know nightkids loves it, but I would like to hear what you have to say about. I think you have said it on this thread before, but I forgot what it might have said . . . go figure.

And BTW, boobies aren't just good, they are great!

well it depends on the live action, the sailor moon ones where on top of japans list for a long time now

Well,

First: Vash,
Fist is not as bad as lupin. Fact is, lupin is really, really bad animation.

However the way they work the characters with the animation works well. 👍

The same is similar with "Fist."

The animation is better than Lupin if you ask me. :D

In fact, "fist" has different styles utilized in the art and animation, un-like lupin.

So is it as bad as lupin? No.
Should you try to rent the movie? Yes.
Don't bother with individual episodes. It is a really long series that I was only lucky enough to catch half of thanks to one of the satelite channels I used to get.
The movie on the other hand is a worthy purchase for an old fan like me. For you, the rental would be best.
Hell, you could even check for it in shonen jump (I don't read it). I know that it was originally a manga (much like so many others).

So yeah, definately rent Fist of the North Star: The Movie when you have the chance.
I will send you a pm shortly ;)

Now, Regarding evangelion,
This is definately a quality series. There are so many elements to the show.

First would be the base of the show: Mech Combat. 👍
Even better is the fact that this is one of the "anti-gundam" (just made that up :sly: ) mech combat animes. What I mean is, Evangelion uses mech combat that is closer to "hand to hand" combat than your average beam cannon gundam. ;)

They draw the mech combat that way too.
Really Fluid in Motion and Speed. :trouble:

As for the story, it is much "deeper" in emotion than your average show. The story and characters are actually developed rather than just being presented and held at face value.

I really do suggest Evangelion.
However, when buying, I seriously suggest you start with the earliest movie, then move to the episodes.
With so much of a series to purchase, finding those perfect episodes to buy without knowing the series might be trouble. :grumpy:

Oh btw, I think it is possible that Evangelion will come to American cable with in the next 5 years.
Toonami aired it during the "giant robo" week (which included 'nedsico' and the original giant robo). It may take time, but it will come.

Now, on a Parting Note,
I would like to leave this for all the boobie lovers (as you will now be known... and remember to generally keep this stuff in the 'other anime thread').
;)

i have a problem with ur comment about NGE, i advise to watch the series first because the movie is just a recap on what happen to get the whole truth( which shinji was just dreaming) death and rebirth and the EOE is justwhat happen if shinji didn't except that everyone cared about him( rei looks cute while being in a hurry, hehehehe)but in the series, ep 26 it shows auska being shinjis child hood friend( and has a crush on him )and rei being a transfer student( shinji has a crush on her)

First let's establish this.
Renting is not part of this equation.
Vash doesn't like that (as all ready stated).
Plus, I have never seen a rental place carrying all of the individual episodes of EVA (or any individual episodes for that matter, only the movies).

That said...
I did lay out reasons for going with the movie first.
I mean, think through it...

Buying anime on a budget while testing the waters on a series he hasn't seen before, and you guys want him to guy buy the entire series?

Even if he only went and bought 1 disc with a few episodes on it, do you really think he wants to just jump into the middle of a series?
Doing it like that he wouldn't even get the begining or end of the series (it is after all, only 1 dvd).

Or do you think he really wants to just start with the first dvd, then every few weeks try to buy the next dvd in the series?
(given the proper budget this is a good way to go, but that is with the proper budget ).

I am sure Vash will love eva, but the fact is, he probably can't afford to buy the entire story in episode form.

Now, for big eva fans like you two, I would totally say go buy the series, but for a total newb to the eva scene, I say buy the movie.

Of course, if you like it that much, you can go buy the episodes next.

However, in the situation Vash is in, I suggest the movie instead of trying to piece-meal his way through owning all 26 episodes.

Remember, I did say this...
I really do suggest Evangelion.
However, when buying, I seriously suggest you start with the earliest movie, then move to the episodes.
With so much of a series to purchase, finding those perfect episodes to buy without knowing the series might be trouble

So Vash, my suggestion, buy the "recap" movie (the first movie).
Then move on to the episodes.

Their suggestion, buy the entire series, then watch the recap movie.

At this point it is up to you.
Good luck. :D

Isn't the Eva recap movie 'Death and Rebirth'? And the next one 'Air'?
Eva is one fantastic series but the $ 169.99 tag for the Boxset is just too expensive!!!!

And speaking of nudity/andmore in the Ghost series........ The manga version (Which can clear up some questions from the movie btw) has more than nudity...... Some sort of cybersex is going on in one of the books so...... Check that out....(Unless the US version took it out of course)

Well I have already been to Best Buy today and bought some anime. I ended up buying more than I intended too.

So here is what I bought:
1. Akira
2. Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex
3. Gungrave - this is the boxset, well the first DVD with what the box the set would go in
4. Rurouni Kenshin - the first arc of the RK series, I was looking at the Samurai X DVDs for some reason and my eyes wandered up and I just caught this out of the side of my eye. This is the first time I had ever seen it at Best Buy, so I had to get it. It was nice getting it 20% off, along with a $10 mail-in-rebate.

Before that and during my lunch break, I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the third volume of Inu Yasha manga along with this months Evo. Evo is a darn good car magazine and right now is my favorite one to read.

So today I ended up spending much more money on anime than I planned to, but that is okay when it is Rurouni Kenshin. 👍 Akira may seem kinda random, as I never mentioned it, but I have wanted to buy it for a while now to see what it is all about and why it is always talked about as a classic movie.

Well check this link out Click Me! . Would that be a good price to buy Evangelion for? I have considered buying it before out of wondering why everyone says it is so good, almost like Akira. But there is a big difference between Akira and Evangelion. Akira cost me like $11, while Evangelion, a whole lot more. And what is this Neon Genesis Evangelion platinum? I saw some box set with the first DVD of it at Best Buy when I was looking through all the anime. Is it just some kind of special edition or something?

Well, I just got done watching the first episode of Gungrave.

The first thing I want to say is that the main character, Brandon Heat a.k.a. Beyond the Grave, is one bad ass. His abilities as a gunman are very good and it definitely helps to have the two guns he has. The guns are pretty sweet. For whatever reason, they somewhat remind me of Dante's Ebony and Ivory from Devil May Cry. By that I mean they are pretty big hand guns and pack a pretty good wallop. The only word Grave spoke on the entire first episode was in his thoughts and that was only one word. The entire time the girl who is following him trying to get him to talk, he only listens and never says a word. And now that I think about it, this kinda reminds me of Squall in FFVIII, in that Squall says very little in the beginning, but everyone knows he is a real bad ass. [EDIT]I forgot to mention this, but Grave's eyes are wicked. They kinda remind me of Legato's. They have that same yellow color; but Grave's seem much more more full of something that Legato's don't have. Very menancing really.[/EDIT]

The episode starts with the semi-like truck--in which Grave in the trailer park, along with the girl I spoke of earlier and a man who seems to have some kind of involvement Grave--the truck though is under attack by some kind of cyborg like human things. Man, my descriptions are bad; but only seeing one episode, it makes it hard to tell what they are. Grave shoots through the top and side of the trailer and kills a fair amount of these beings. After they are dead, they kind of disintegrate and some what disappear. Like I said, I am not really sure about most of this stuff yet. But Grave rips through a pretty good amount of these guys and well it was pretty cool, as he used the guns I mentioned earlier.

Right after this, the opening theme comes up. I will say I am not near as impressed with it as I am with Trigun's. But then again it is hard to compare any series's to Trigun, as it is just freakin' awesome. The guitar rip on Trigun is major sweetness. So far from the first episode I can tell the music is definitely of different kind when compared to Trigun. No more western kind of stuff or hard stuff with the guitar. Though watching the opening, I did notice the same guy who did the stuff for Trigun does the music for Gungrave also; so I suspect the music should be pretty good.

After one episode, I am left with a bunch of questions. Questions such as: "Who is this Brandon Heat? And what is his past? Why is he so significant?"; "When I am going to see more of his bad ass marksmenship?"; "How will this girl play into the story?"; "What is with the guy who is kinda watching over Grave?"; "What is Grave's link to the boss of 'The Organization'?"; and really this kinda just touches the surface of what could be in store for the rest of the series.

There was definitely more in the first episode than I mentioned in my post, but this was the biggest thing I noticed in my first viewing and there was much more to be commented on. I kinda now have the same feeling as I did when I read the first volume of Battle Angel Alita, meaning the story has left me intrigued as to what is in store for me, the viewer.

I don't think I will get to the second episode of Gungrave tonight. Sorry to those who would like to know more, but right now I am going to watch Adult Swim and after Case Closed or Lupin III I am going to go to bed. So look forward to my next installment of my reviewing of Gungrave.

Nice review Vash. 👍

I will be looking forward to the next installment. ;)

Also, glad to see you managed to pick up some anime. Akira is a classic, but to some it is considered over-rated... I consider it under-rated, but that's because of personal connections to the movie.

Keep us posted on what you think of the anime you bought, it will be nice to hear. :D

Oh, and by god man!

You have got to talk to me about Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I've wanted to see that so bad recently and now you have it, so maybe a generalized opinion from you after watching it would be just what I need (but remember, no spoilers! )

Until next time,
-
btw, did I skip a week with my Saturday Anime reviews?
Well I will surely get it this week. :D

Thanks for the complaint! 👍

And actually, I kinda want to add--maybe clarity or just adding to it--to my review for the first episode.

After talking to a friend about it, I would almost say Sephiroth from FFVII is a better comparison for a bad ass character as opposed to Squall. Squall to me is a really cool character and a bad ass; but not everyone thinks that of him and Sephiroth might be a better person to compare Grave too.

Well I thought Akira would be a good buy, since everyone just raves about how good it is. Plus it never hurts to never have heard a bad review about it.

As soon as I watch any more of Gungrave or start GITS:SAC (GITS:SAC=Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex), I will give my reviews of them. Well I ended up getting GITS:SAC because they did not have the movie.

Listen to this. Today, I went back to Best Buy to buy some more anime. I was going to go ahead and buy Evangelion, but that did not end up happening. But my reasoning for buying the series was well $87 for the entire series is really good. You are talking only $11 a DVD, pretty good if you ask me. But for no apparent reason the check I wrote was declined. Total crap, especially with the answers I got for it being declined. So I have written Best Buy a lovely email and I really think I should post it on here. Sarcasm is such a wonderful tool when writing. I am also considering to write a letter also, but I will first see what comes of the email.

And to answer your question, I think you did skip this last week's Saturday Anime Review. Shame on you!

Well I ended up buying it today with cash, along with some more Rurouni Kenshin. Now, all I need to complete Rurouni Kenshin is the second arc. And some more manga was bought today too, which would be the sixth volume of Rurouni Kenshin. I really need to stop spending money now.

The guns are known as Cerebus. They are related to the guns Arucard uses in the anime Hellsing, the Jackal and I can't remember the other one's name. I haven't watched that anime in a while. But anyway, I just thought I'd help you out with that one.

And..I must admit Rurouni Kenshin is an excellent anime. And Samurai X was the best manga. Hellsing was a good one.. Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz was badass..Ghost in the shell = awesome...And of course, TRIGUN! Who can forget that one. If I may add, also...Cowboy Bebop! It was one of the greatest animes. And if you liked Cowboy Bebop, you should enjoy Watanabe's (Maker of Cowboy Bebop) new project. It's Cowboy Bebop: SAMURAI STYLE! New story, but almost the same characters It's known as Samurai Champloo. Although it isn't released in the states or even in Japan, I've gotten ahold of the first two episodes. Like I said, the characters are much alike Spike and Vicious from Bebop. Very good anime so far. I'm still downloading 6 more episodes to get 8. Not sure how many total there are, but we shall see. If you would like to know where to get these episodes, contact me on AIM. My SN is in my profile.

Yes, I knew his guns were known as Cerebus, as it says on the back cover that is what they are named. But if someone did not actually read the back cover of the DVD, then they would not know that and for my review I tried to just give information on what was in the first episode and nothing else.

I have yet to see any of Hellsing. Seems to me it is another series that is highly spoken of and another one I will want to see because of what people have said of it. Though right now, unless I can download it somewhere, it will be a while before I see it, as I have spent enough money right now as of late on anime.

Your offer on Samurai Champloo is one I just might take up, so expect an IM from me sometime, even if it is not about Samurai Champloo.

Samurai Champloo kinda looks interesting I saw it on New Type, its worth a look.

Well it's that time again.

Unfortunately this week wasn't as intresting as past weeks were.

Actually, both of my usual shows were let downs.

Yu Yu Hakashu was nothing more than an episode of dialoge and funny character art.

Plenty to laugh and have a good time with, but not much for anything else. What's worse is the fact that the good times and funny drawings were limited. Most of the show was just plan old dialoge setting up the episodes to come.

To wrap it up in as few words as possible...
If there was a week of Yu Yu to miss, this was the one.

Not that it was all that bad, but it just didn't keep me intrested.

Regarding my other saturday anime series...
Inu Yasha tonight was all about shippo.

Now don't get me wrong, I like shippo. He/she ? adds a dimension to the show that I really appreciate.

Tonight's episode was a good example of how shippo can bring light hearted fun to the series, but at the same time, tonight was also an episode to show that shippo is only good for a supporting role.

Basically, the little devil got challenged to a duel, and sure enough, nothing but humor came out of it all. It's not exactly what I expect from Inu Yasha, but then again, it's exactly what I expect from shippo.

So, yeah,
Even though I'm getting in my Saturday Anime post, I am not nearly as satisfied as I usually am after watching these two shows.

Actually, Justice League Unlimited was the highlight for me tonight.
But that's a different story all together. ;)

Well, until next time or at least until some sort of reply comes up,
Later. :D

So you watched Justice League Unlimited last night too? I have watched it both weeks since it has been on and woiuld have to say that it really is not too bad. Is it just me or has the quality of the animation been stepped up a little over Justice League?

I did not catch Yu Yu Hakasho last night and it sounds like I did not miss anything at all. Inu Yasha was not bad. I thought it was kinda odd/funny that Shippo's weapons are toys. The drawings that Shippo and the girl made were pretty funny to look at too. But last night's episode definitely was not the best Inu Yasha has had to offer.

Indeed Vash. 👍

The enthusiasm I showed during my last post should be enough evidence of last night's anime session.

Kind of odd that for once, the biggest mention of Saturday Anime Review was an animation that isn't even "anime" style.

Btw Vash, just because I am getting lazy about anime reviews doesn't mean you need to... ;)
GITS:SAC  ;)

Catch you guys a little later,
-
