Is anyone going to watch Samurai Champloo when it starts this weekend? I have been anticipating this series for a while now. The previews on CN look really good.

I like that one
.........................

Well I just watched the first episode of Samurai Champloo and I was pretty impressed by it. The first episode has a pretty good amount of action in it. Though the story could have a little more in it, it instead sets the stage for much to come. The first episode is focused around Jin and Mugen, along with Fuu. Both Jin and Mugen are excellent swordsmen, but excellent in much different styles. Each of their styles pretty much go along with each character, at least so far. I will definitely watch the second episode and future episodes, as this is the kinda series I like to watch. 👍

I acquired the first four episodes. I think it has to grow on me a little. I hate the comedy they try to inject into the episodes, if they kept serious, it would be better for me personally. What I do love is the fighting scenes and the modern slang they use. I don't think samurais in feudal Japan called their adversaries "*****es". 👍

Do you know if AS edits the episodes?

I'm not exactly sure, but I think some of the more "bad" words they do. But I think for the most part, AS is pretty good about not butchering a series with editing. So I would say for the most part probably not.

The fighting scenes are great! 👍 Some of the humor in the first episode I liked. I actually didn't notice anything that was just terrible about it, but then again I have not had as much exposure to it as you have.

I didnt know what to think BEFORE getting a looky loo of champloo. it may have been just another wandering*(see note) nameless samauri show. well... it is..with HIP HOP! the reverse idea when shinichiro watanabe (dir)fit sci-fi bounty hunters into the warmth of jazz soundtracks. (bebop). I think the sunflower smelling dude may just an excuse for 3 people to walk around NIN'ing in edo era japan. otherwise superb presentation! some very dry humor, instant classic! or something more than an honorable mention.

*tsukigi ran? now that was some sensless drunken wandering.

I liked the first episode of Samurai Champloo. The direct contrast in the two main characters is pretty nice. It sets up for lots of bickering between the two. The hip-hop is definitely different and it is kinda nice to see something different. Some of the humor is very dry, but it can be pretty funny. The animation is really good. So basically I can't wait for tonight's episode. 👍

Well,
I've been loving the Samurai Champloo over the last 4 weeks now.

Definately what I was hoping for although not exactly what I expected.

The art style in particular is what suprises me.
It's not like many, if any, anime styles I've seen before.

The cinematography of the action is excellent and the dialoge doesn't suffer too much from what I imagine to be a difficult translation of slang & vulgarity.

All in all I feel like the series has great potential.

Samurai CHampoo is cool, I like the one where they have some people that Tag on fedual Japan

Recently watched Aim for the Top! 2 Episode 1~2... I think Gainax got a winner again... (Though admittingly way different looking than the first series)
Its style to be a mix of several of their past projects ... And some mentions in forms of parodies... ( the army commander Guy who says something like 'Coffee with a lot of sugar... When your a kid you like sweets~' definitely FLCL... He even looks the same and has the same personality as that character with fake eyebrows...) It also gives just enough information to keep it interesting...
And not to mention the Topless and their Buster machines are awesome~

Also obtained some Keroro Gunso episodes... Any anime that has a 'Rule the World' kind of lyric in its opening song is great... (The ending song is also great... Afro Gunso~ Afro Gunso wa Afro~) Childish yes, but definitely funny...

Basilisk is a pretty nice ninja action anime too... I like that they made both sides equal in their moral actions... It is virtually impossible to hate or like one of the two groups single handedly... The storyline can't get any messed up than this series... (Though Akite would stand for having a depressing storyline... Well it was done by the guys who are working on Mezzo... They resemble in styling at least...)

Lets see... I watched one episode of Generation of Chaos... The backgrounds resemble oldschool 3D RPG castles... I'm guessing it was a game first? Also a start for a messed up storyline... (The title matches perfectly I suppose)

Too bad Samurai Shamploo is licenced already~ I don't have cable... Maybe on DVD later on I suppose...

What do you guys think of Samurai Champloo? Sofar i've seen up to episode 15 (fansubbed) and i think its a pretty awsome series. They give little snidbits of information about japan culture and stuff plus the plot and characters are cool. Its an almost flawless show in my opinion. :)

I havent watched it on tv yet, just downloaded fansubs.

yeah, but i always miss it so i just downloaded em. :) I dont know if the cartoon network dubbing is good though sincei i've never seen it.

Gabkicks,

I've just merged your samurai champloo thread into this one.

I feel like it makes sense.

For the sake of continuing what you were talking about...

Samurai Champloo is awesome.
I'm a little disappointed with how long it's taking to get on with the larger story, but then again, I've only seen about 4 episodes.

Still a great show. 👍
Probably my favorite on TV right now.

I guess from a search some of you have seen Ex-Driver. 👍 Soooo much better than Initial D but then again this anime is weird in typical Japanese fashion.

o0 Ex driver is ok but not better, about 16 yr olds and a 12 driving around in a europa, stratos(and impreza), and a super7 going against modern day imports and advanced AI cars

I just wanted to come in and mention a few things I've heard about related to the anime world.

First off, nothing special, but...
Highlander the movie is being made.
An anime version of high lander?

I watched the trailer and it looks ok but only time will tell.
Keep an eye out for it. :D

Also,
Have any of you heard about China's plans to bann foreign anime?

Allegedly, the chinese government has decided to put effort into developing their own anime industry... Once the quality of chinese anime is high enough they will enact a ban on all foreign anime.

Heard this through "the otaku" .com
Not sure how true it is, but it was covered as a news story, not just some rant from a member on their forum.
It was a story from the main commercial site of the otaku with links to support it (although I didn't spend much time looking into it).

Any way, though you all would like to hear some of the news I picked up recently.
Till next time,
-Kent

Btw, I just want to mention that after watching all of the "ghost in the shell: stand alone complex" series I am disappointed.

It seems like only a few of the episodes were really good.

Some of the episodes were really good. 👍
Some had great themes regarding mortality and the soul.
However, overall those points weren't enough to save the series in the overall.

If I was to grade it on a scale of 1 to 10...
Something between 6 and 8.

Maybe 7
Yeah, 7.
Not great but not bad. :D

Oh one last thing...
Full Metal Alchemist is still pretty good. 👍
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the series now that it hasn't pulled a nose dive...
After watching those first few episodes I was worried that the series to follow wouldn't be able to keep up- luckily for us it did keep up and the quality hasn't dropped. 👍

Well I got kinda disappointed with both FMA and GITS:SAC. GITS:SAC especially because the story never seemed to make any progress and I never finished watching it. But I had an excuse for not watching each of them and it was not only because of loss of interest, though I don't really remember what the reason was. FMA wasn't as bad, but Ed was starting to get a little annoying to me. Though I really need to start watching FMA again and see how some of the story goes.

One series I've been much more interested in is Samurai Champloo. It has been pretty good so far and though the story has kinda veered off alittle as of late, that doesn't really matter to me. The interaction of the three main characters is amusing. The animation is very, very good . . . definitely top notch. Plus I seem to really like samurai type stories.

The new episodes of Inu Yasha have been pretty good as of late also. Though the he/she/it thing person with the extending sword is kinda an enigma to me. I still don't know if IT is a he or she and I don't really know if I will know either.

And finally on another note, I watched the first two episodes of Rurouni Kenshin the other day and was reminded at why I like the series so much. It also reminded me of why I keep telling myself I need to buy the second arc of the series, so I will have finally completed it.

Ok, first off. Champloo- Awesome!
I like that a lot but only a full series will show us if it's worthy of its reputation.
Cowboy Bebop was one of the best series ever, keeping up with work like that is hard to do... Only the man himself can do it, luckily that's just who we get with "sam-champ."

On the note of that show...
I'm kinda disappointed with the progress of the story.
However, being patient is the key right? :D
I'm sure the story will concentrate on the main characters' stories once we get a little further into the series.
The last episode was important for story development- Gene seems to have fought and killed his former master.

Should be intersting to see what happend and what will happen in the future regarding his character.

Any way...
Oh, I almost forgot.

Are you all talking about "Shippo" from Inuyasha?
I'm not sure what the story is with that character.

For the record though, in the American Inuyasha I am sure Shippo is a boy.

The story in Samurai Champloo has been somewhat slow as of late, but at least we have still seen some character development. That is one of the things I saw lacking in GITS:SAC. And yes it seems Jin has killed his former master, though there also seems to be more there than has been revealed. Hopefully that will be delved into later.

And no I'm not talking about Shippo. Shippo has never once seemed wierd at all. Its only in the most recent episodes that the character in question has been in the show and it is the person with the extending sword.

Shippo is a boy from what I understand...

And has anyone seen Karas...

And does anyone here watch Bleach?
