step 3: lets get rid of that green crap! open photoshop and b~line for the image/-->adjustments-->/saturation controls

pick green and boost the lightness to max. without the sketch there, the inking portion is all done. ready to color?

step 4: now i use painter for this, the water color tool alows you to paint over a B/W image without disturbing it, further more if you keep painting over it it doesnt pile it on top, jus replaces the last coat/ so its ok to go over the edges and paint on top of the lines. known as a floater.

paint some background color if needed, white is really boring.

step 5: still using the watercolor tool, Paint the basic skin tone first. this will be the simple base color for the rest of the pic.

when ready implement some simple shadows. Use good judgement here and adhere to the face contours. i like to keep the area around the eyes dark, and space underneath the hair dark too.

step 7: fine tune those shadows! add slight hair folicles of a darker shade

note: when adding adding any shade tone/color,
*dont use just a darker tone of the same color*
pick a slightly darker, and slighty DIFFERENT HUE for the shade, it should still be close to the original skin tone but with a mix of different color in there, but whatever mix you use ensure that other tone is in all the other shadows too.

finishing touches, step 8:

hair: trim up the shadows so they are smooth and hair looking, add a subtle amount of highlight ( off white/lighter than hair but not white)

eyes: all reflective spots should be pure white, the top of the eye should be darkest, the botom lightest

this process started in highschool and has been being revised over the past 2 years. i use this for EVERYTHING, since day one. :)
the drawing part takes ALOT OF DISCIPLINE, and some suicidal concenration.

final touches part 2

we got down a sinmple color layout, but make it smaller ( to hide mistakes! ) and change some colors/lines to bring out the true identity of the picture.

Do you know of any sites that may help me towards this?

Man, that step by step lesson was great. Not to mention the drawing itself. I love the smoothness. I do have a question though and I'm sorry if you answered it already, but, is step 1-step 2 in Corel Painter? If so, man I gotta get me a tablet and a copy of that Corel Painter. I'll try and post some quick sketches (on paper), if I find the time. Actually, I'll go and look for some now...

i like how you finished it, alot of depth to the scheme and method but why communist lain? lack of vivid color :P

other artists? ok!

i guess this will be the divided road. its best to ALWAYS look up to and aspire the highest of standards. these are some top artists which i frequently check up on.

akira is just simply great at it, effect use of all colors and first class sketches.

make a site, get listed HERE
http://ocad.syste.ms/artist.html
over 2700 anime artists
alot of them are just trashy and without objective, but there are some real treasure sites in there

koba has a really refined style, but its missing something. there is a good amount or work he puts into his art.

julie dillon

this is more your style, contemp~western, but an incredible sense of creativity and wonder. she crosses the style of manga with the grace of painting, truely unique.

all the drawing painting was done in painter classic, i just used adobePS to change the color levels for effect. painter classic is a great program, too simple for the credit i give it but its ***FREE** with any wacom tablet. :) painter 7 is much better (and a much 600$ more) that classic. paid about 89 bucks for my 4x5 wacom, should be more like 50 now.

50? Nice. But is 4x5 enough? I guess it would be though, I got small hands anyway. Hehehe.

Wow, those are some great examples of your art at various stages. Nice stuff indeed.

I gotta say though, what ever happend to just plain old colored pencils and a pen?

If I can get to my dads scanner I will put in some art, but I don't know if I will get the chance.

However, by the looks of the stuff above, I think you will all like my art. :sly:

Back soon.

Now I feel kinda bad because, A: Im not very good. B: I don't have a scanner of my own.
I will get to work, and get on the scanner first chance I get. I promise I will go out of my way to get something up some time.
Thanks for your patience.

hey kirkis, thanks for thast tut. unfortunately, I cant ink like that because I dont have a palette, but there are many ways in wich you can achieve that line quiality using the hands and photoshop. however, the color steps are great and I will learn some from them, specially the order and rawness with wich you draw. thanks for the stuff man, and for the links!!! some of them are INCREDIBLE!!

golden boy is one of my favorites of all time! its a bit raunchy but first rate comedy it is. 👍 how he gets all serious in manga style with the fast lines over learning things, then he rides his bike off the cliff, benko benko benko benko benko benko!
