7/10. Show's more entertaining than most show's I've seen, but I felt it kinda lost direction part way through.

^ Macross is simply just that, an EPIC series! The OST is just nothing short of a masterpiece!

Then again, it's a lot better than poop like World God Only Knows. But if I can give Death Note a 7, I can't see myself giving Frontier any higher.

Also:

I don't know where this HD version of the '82 OP came from, but it is sick. The song is a winner too.

^ Oh please don't tell me that they will remake SDF Macross! That would be the anime to watch in 2015!!!! :dopey:

-> I'll dump SM Crystal for a remake of SDF Macross anyday!!

Macross F: Wings of Goodbye.

That was a much better ending than the TV series. The romance is much stronger in this. It tried to end the battle like it did in the series, which I felt was a little too soon, but I thought it was acceptable granted the plot of the film was much more concise and consistent.

Just finished Bakuman 3, and it couldn't have ended any better! So much reminiscence in this season I couldn't help but pour my heart out to the characters.

Yeah pretty much. It would have been better if it didn't just end. Way too open-ended to be pleased with it. Despite you reading through it I'd still recommend watching the show. It's always a whole 'nother experience, of course, and I'm going to pick up some of the books soon myself. :)

I tried a few episodes, and they weren't bad at all. Definitely has SHAFT written all over it though. I guess it works pretty well and so far it's pretty on-par to the manga.

I really don't see how what your posted had anything to do with watching everything from a girl's point of view.

Do you mean that in Madoka there are girls with guns?

That's a vague observation.

Does Sayaka phone violin guy at some point.

Man, I need to rewatch that show.

only two girls in madoka actually have guns tho

I'd have summed it up as more along the lines of: "magical girls suffering, with a misleadingly upbeat j-pop theme song and a largely lesbian subtext".

And the third movie is: "local girl ruins everything, ai yo, lesbians".

Maybe I took completely the wrong approach to the whole thing. But Homura x Madoka is real, and so is Sayaka x Kyoko, and if you tell me otherwise, I shall be upset.

The scene on top of the flowery hill in Rebellion is one of the best scenes in the entire series, regardless of what you thought of the way that movie ended.

You know wha't also awesome? spoiler tags.

Useful for when you're about to spoil important plot points. "In Rebellion, girls do stuff, there's a scene on top of a flowery hill which is really good, the ending is controversial, and there are lesbians" doesn't really "spoil" much. You'd have to be clairvoyant to know any of what happens in that movie from that information alone.

And I don't actually know how to do spoiler tags on this forum. Wouldn't have used them in this instance anyway.

With the "magicarl girls suffer" thingie, you already gave out an important aspect of the show for people who haven't watched it. It doesn't cover it's true nature with that character design and pinkish ambience just because, you know.

Just saying.

It's 15-rated, and on many sources I've checked, its genre is listed as "dark fantasy", or "tragedy". Let's be honest here, the vast majority of people who go into it aren't expecting moe, and virtually all the complaints over the way the show was marketed outside of Japan are directed at it being advertised in the same way as a "moe" show. Saying that it has dark themes is practically the only way to get people to watch it, and almost anyone who's been around this thread for more than two pages is pretty well-informed about this anyway. The series is infamous for being misleading in that aspect; there's no way to find almost any information on it without stumbling across the fact that it's... shall we say, "not for kids"?

By quoting that specific part of my post, though, you've only drawn attention to it. I doubt that anyone ever went into Madoka Magica truly thinking that it was going to be another Sailor Moon, myself included.

That said, my reaction to people telling me that it was "dark" was; "hell no, I don't believe you", and I watched it with that in mind.

So for anyone inexperienced with the show who's reading this and thinking; "There's No Way My Magical Girl Show Can Be This Dark!", I invite you to go right ahead. Simply knowing the basic themes of the show - believe me - isn't enough to actually spoil it for you.

I knew a girl who went into Madoka thinking it was just another slice of life moe magical girl show. It's one of her favourite anime now.

When I went into it, I knew it was dark, but it was still far darker than I expected.

Seriously. No talking about any of the Meduka without the tags of the spoiler.

Fine, then. Anyway, to re-address nk4e's original comment: it's not about guns, and it's not about heterosexual romance. That's all I'm saying until the show pops up in another conversation here.

Which will probably be in about a page and a half. In fact, y'know what, I'll just change my avatar to a Madoka Magica pic so I don't forget to participa-

...

Apparently, I already did that. Fine. :P

Seriously. Watching it is a great way to pick up girls. If you are a girl at least. Literally every single person I know in real life who is a fan of that show is a gay or bisexual woman...
Haha!! I was gonna say otherwise until I noticed the white. 8p

I am (not) sure. But I probably need to start watching the title you guys watch. I will probably join AOS' Macross quest.
