I've been doing a lot of Open Lobby racing recently, and particularly enjoy PP racing, usually at 500 or 550.

In these lobbies, car choice is generally open albeit with a few restrictions. For example, many lobbies forbid concept cars (such as the Suzuki GSX-R/4), prototypes and racing cars.

Most lobbies I visit also forbid other cars, based on a "gentleman's agreement" that said cars are overpowered and allowing those would create an arm's race where everybody would eventually end up in one of those cars in order to remain competitive.

This is an understandable request (not to use said cars) but there is an issue with this in Gran Turismo 6 in that which cars fall under this category are unclear.

Back when I used to race on Forza Motorsport 4, we called these cars "leaderboard cars", as the game had global leaderboards for every class and circuit and one could easily look up the top standings to find out which cars were the strongest. If a car was near the top of the list, everybody knew that it was not a "fair car" to use in Lobby racing, simple as.

Getting back to GT6, the issue with "leaderboard cars" is that there are no global leaderboards, only Seasonal Event boards which often have restrictions on which cars are eligible and expire after a few weeks anyway. Therefore, finding out which cars are "leaderboard cars" is difficult, and it's not until a host shouts at or kicks somebody from a lobby that many people would find out that a certain car is overpowered for its PP.

So anyway, I think it would be a good idea if we worked together to create a list of cars that can be considered overpowered for their PP, to help clear the skies a little and better inform those that do PP racing about which cars to avoid.

Damn, the Suzuki was my favourite car ;)

What about cars which are extremely fast, but noone uses it online?

Ford Focus ST '13. Or was it the RS? I can't remember but one of the Focuses is always deemed too fast by a vast amount of people with whom I've raced with.

But basically, they're too fast at all PP's...

Ferrari 458 Italia. I'm running a championship with different cars fitted to be evenly.
The Ferrari runs at 525PP while some others run at 560PP...

All concept/prototype cars, plus the Ford Focus RS and the Ferrari Dino.

In the concepts/prototypes, there are cars like the Suzuki GSX-R/4, the Miura, the Mazda RX500, The RX-8 Concepts, the Toyota F86 Concepts, the TommyKaira ZZII, NSX-R LM Road Car, the Dome Zero, and maybe I forget some other. All of those are very fast.

The Focus is the favorite car of the low level players who can't control RWD cars and still want the car to be very fast and turn in corners very quickly. Very fast for its PP and easy to drive too.

The Ferrari Dino is very very fast too but harder to drive.

So basically with this agreement, the fastests cars are forbidden(like the Suzuki car), if you get rid of this car or the other super fast cars, wouldn't people just then find the fastest non-forbidden car and use that? Wouldn't those specific non-forbidden cars later on also be banned? It just seems like a chain reaction to me...

One thing is being 1 second per lap faster or more, another is some tenths. Those forbiden cars are the ones that are MUCH faster than average.

One car that always finds itself in the lead pretty quick is the Opera s2000 always ends up being an opera room once someone starts destroying everyone with it

I'm aware of a few at certain PP ranges that are always contentious, ignoring concepts/prototypes:

450pp
-
Any Lotus Elise

500pp
-
Any Lotus Elise
Any KTM

550pp
-
Any KTM
Honda NSX Type-R

Not a comprehensive list as many of the outlier cars are usually prototypes.

KTM X-Bow Street and R versions.
They're seriously too quick when tuned right.... :p
So true, both KTM's are insanely quick at about 550PP to 600PP, I dont think any normal road car can beat them (unless in very fast tracks like Monza) They are two of my favorite cars to drive too.
Its a shame and ironic to have all these great cars and no one is allowed to use them.
They are actually being used too much, thats the problem. What people dont use is the cars that aren't as fast.

Well I for one won't waste my credits on cars that aren't competitive. People always praise the number of cars GT has and then condemn others for buying them and using them.

They're beasts at 650 pp. Race cars of the same pp range (GT3, GT500 and even the McLaren race cars) will find it hard to beat the KTMs.

Thousands of players run open lobby racing around the world, and a fraction of them come to gtplanet, so how much impact do you feel your message would have?......Cheers.

It is not really exciting to win on superior cars to the rest (the ones we're talking about)
On the other hand its great to find out a car, try to tune it, and discover that it can be fast enough to win, and then get a victory. Thats very satisfying.

I had a list of cars that I found to be 'easy winners' from 400pp up to I think 575pp, but I tried looking for it last night and couldn't find it :( This is why you should use Google Docs kids :ouch:

That's just what I do. I just bought a Saleen S7 and I found that It's pretty fast. As I don't play online that much, I don't really see the abuse of certain cars that much. So I don't understand banning them entirely. They might as well not be in the game for all the use they'll be.

Plus, those lightweight cars (KTMs, LCC Rockets, Lotus Elises) fare very well in Endurance lobbies for sure, especially when fuel consumption and tire wear settings are set to very fast.

PC's have HDDs and they can also store stuff aswell, that remains there unless you delete it.

The point of this thread is to make a list of "ban-able" cars because of too much speed, in order to try to make races more equal. That doesnt mean that every lobby in the world must ban them immediately, and forever...

Wait, PC's have hard drives? No.... I wrote them down on paper because it was easier when sitting in my racing seat. Who wants to get up once you get settled into your rig? I sure don't :)

2J, the TS030 (I believe that's the name of the LMP that was added a few months ago), the FTO race car, and the civic '08. I've seen people tune those so good, it's impossible to beat

I am under no pretensions to change how the majority of people play this game, merely opening a discussion so that people here can learn more about which (and possibly why) cars are so overpowered compared to those with similar specs :)

Personally I'm okay with running any car (even leaderboard cars) so long as I get a good and fair race but to each their own.

I've used the 2J a lot, and it only works on tracks with lots of corners, but not tight corners (i.e. Laguna Seca), and it's impossible to drive unless you've driven it a LOT and gotten used to it. Plus, you only get 3 gears so you have to chose between having slow acceleration under 30 mph and a moderate top speed, or really slow acceleration and a decent top speed. Any races under 650 PP, and it'll never keep up with LMP and Group C racers, even with an experienced driver at the wheel. Definitely shouldn't be forbidden.

What? The 2J impossible to drive? You're joking right? Its a very easy car to drive.
And you can also have both good acceleration and good top speed if you modify the gears one by one.
