The good and bad about public reviews?

Please have a look at my post in this thread about what I think would be of interest for Round 2. I already made some suggestions. ;)

Edit: The Nordschleife is the track I love most to drive. I would definitely love to come over there to see some faces with all the nicknames and also see the green hell once with my own eyes. :)
 
I have no quarrels with it. Seems to be the most honest and fair way to accomplish unbiased reviews.

PM me about what? Feel free to PM me though. Although response might be a tad slow as its my birthday today (26) and I need to be social to my visitors as well.

I don't think Thomas has publicly announced me as the CTM for GTP though. Although it seems or at least feels like to me that everyone sees me as such already.

Oh and I think I know what you are on about. Sending me a PM with an application.

I think we can do it two ways, PM or a Round 2 - Application topic. It doesn't matter much as I need to choose the 10 contestants. However I think a more public approach with an open topic would be better. That way it doesn't necessarily seem that I/the CTM favor certain people because of my relations to them. Also having the application process public means people can read info up front and only have to scan the 10 applications later in round 3. Also one can see for themselves if I/the CTM made the right choice.
I have to put a disclaimer here though. I am only human and not without faults. However I will do my best to pick the best selection of people and will as well write per person selected on why I selected them. Again, even though I do this there might be more equally favorable contestants and I might not select the right one, or exclude people properly in my descriptions for the selected persons. Please remember I am only human and will do my best to host this event in the case I will be CTM.

Edit: I actually like to do the community meetings as well and I think that a race track would be a good place to meet. Perhaps we should organize a community event at the Nordschleife but let's talk about that later.

I agree.
The regular community test and additional a event if possible.

Sending the wheel around, would only work if you have a close part of the community, where the testers know each other personal and trust each other to treat the equipment proper.

I think that a public confirmation by Fanatec of who the acting GTP CTM will be is in order at this point.

It is my hope that the acting CTM will solicit suggestions from the GTP community members as far as the poll/round 2 criteria are concerned.

There have been some really great suggestions in this thread by relatively new members or members who do not have the large footprint others do.

I am sure people can be creative with how they make even a negative point sound more positive.

Like for example a person is a perfectionist which could mean he is slow in producing a review he feels has been made well enough. However this can also mean thy when it is released it would be more useful and informative to Fanatec and the community members who read the review.

And like I said 500 words seems too much for people to read throuugh. Mag e you could do 5 short bullet points instead?
 
Being able to admit your own faults is a good trait to have, especially when trying to do reviews

Might be a good idea and will give some overview as well, instead of reading a big piece of text.

So 5 positive and 5 negative points so to speak constructed of just a sentence or two per point. So no life's stories.

I will never forget this story on that topic.

When Allan Mulally, the now CEO of Ford, first sat down with the board members and upper level managers he asked them, "I want each person to tell me one thing they are doing wrong in their department". To which one replied, "we are not doing anything wrong". This was when Ford was on the brink of collapse. It took over 3 hours for one person to stand up and say something he or she had done wrong.

We all make mistakes. Its a fact of life.

Seriously with the amount we all read and write here on a regular basis, you cannot read 500 words per applicant. ;) 500 words can get eaten up pretty quickly just naming games and systems you could test with as well as what equipment is being used and compared.

I said 500 characters though, not words. So letters, figures, spaces, dots and so on. ;)
 
However ATM without anything other than the good and bad parts about yourself applicants will be submitting 1000 words. (2x500) baring in mind there will be at least 10 candidates thats 10000 words.

Then you have games and things to consider (although I see this but as less relevant)

  1. I have an IT back ground and thus know what to look at and were problems might lie. So can inform to Thomas and in a review where problems lie and if they are problematic for early buyers.
  2. I have a long gaming history and have done mostly race games. Thus I know what to expect from games and how the steering input should be.
  3. I have a history in real life racing, and thus know how a car should feel.
  4. I have enough time on my hands and thus am able to spend enough time on the review.
  5. I have an eye for detail and know what things to pick out that would interest readers.

Negative Elevator pitch - Why should you be choosen (5 points max of 2 or 3 sentences):
  1. I am a perfectionist and thus it might take a bit longer to produce a review. However the review that I produce will hopefully be more detailed.

Either way, its the CTMs decision. My opinion is that it is a rather important decision, where as only one member is going to come away with a wheel this product release as opposed to 3 last time.
I am not submitting this round as I have no way enough time to dedicate to testing in the near future. 60+ hours weeks for the past 3 and next 3 ( 48 overnight 10+ daytime maintenance) is putting me way behind on a personal life level ;) when this is over I'm redoing bathroom for wife in return I can build my gaming area.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Thomas said that certain communities may get multiple wheels.
 
You are correct, to much work lately, my brain is short circuited. tho he did not specify which communities. There will be at least 3-5 here including the community winner(s).

I know of 2 preselected so at minimum gtp will have three csw wheels in review.
 
What I would like to see is a real unbiased review that comes from outside the Fanatec discounted I got my wheel first club. Every beta tester review I've seen has been biased. Why? Everyone testing them has a vested interest in only saying good things about Fanatec. The 50% (or more at the discretion of Fanatec) discount and the competition to be a tester pretty much means there is going to be bias. People are buying products just to compare to Fanatec and games they don't play just to say they have a wide variety of comparable products. How will that produce an unbiased review?

Logiforce isn't a tester himself but is still getting a wheel to try? Why? It's this person's discretion to pick said tester? Who will he pick? A friend perhaps? Good old boy networks die hard.

He said that just to reassure Logiforce, and perhaps some others that may have been reading that they are still part of the club.

IE Logiforce is getting one and the GTP tester is getting one.
