THIS FORTNIGHT'S THEME

The 80's are back ! In fashion, in decoration, and now in livery creation. Last winner @D-Max has set this theme, let's hear what he has to say :

80's style. Design a car that takes it's inspiration from 80's liveries. But it's not that simple....

Keeping the liveries very much so 80's, I want cars to be from 2000 or newer. The big thing for me is limiting the crazy designs. 80's cars had some very simplistic designs in terms of shapes yet still to this day are eye catching and mesmerizing. I don't want to see crazy curves or large scale images as that wasn't really a thing in the 80's. I want to see the use of rectangles, squares and triangles. Strictly no replicas, though you can take inspiration and apply it. (if it is found to be too close to an original, you may be asked to edit your entry).

A quick note, bear in mind with 80's car that title sponsors were very bold and in your face, so your livery should represent this.

CARS : 2000 or newer (but no Vision GT cars)
LIVERIES : NO replicas.
USER MADE DECALS : Yes. Decals can be from 80's or modern. Try not to mix the 2.
BONUS PICTURE SETTINGS : Car must be on the move on track.
UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS:
- Classic number board.
- Solid colours (No metallic/Chrome/Matte).
- Must limit curves used in decals.
- The car does not need to be sport mode compatible.

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

ENTRY SUBMISSION

- The only way you can take part is to be a member of the GTPlanet forums. If you haven't created your account yet, click here
- Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
- Unsure how to? Copy and paste the following:
Code:
[COLOR=red][B]FINAL ENTRY[/B][/COLOR]
- One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a competition.
- You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
- Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
- Absolutely no entries which utilize edited/hacked file saves.

- Winner gets to choose the following Fortnight's theme.
- Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
- The Host may ask for the original image/livery and it must be submitted if so.
- It's recommended to share the original livery online (in-game) to prove it’s your work.
- Winner, second and third places will have to share the links of the liveries for the Hall of Fame thread

ENTRY PRESENTATION

- All posted images must not exceed 640 pixels in either direction (main and bonus pictures)
- You have to post two main pictures of your entry using the mandatory locations and settings as shown below
- You are allowed to post one bonus picture in a spoiler with free location and settings (unless the unique restrictions of the week’s theme specify something else)

- It is recommended you host your image either here on GTPlanet (via the Media section), or on Flickr
- Not sure how to submit your image? Here's a guide for both methods mentioned above.
- A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
- Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it; it makes poll creation much easier!
- No heavy post-game editing, slight enhancing is allowed.

I find this week weird but challenging. Modern cars are curvy by principle, but we need to keep as few curves as possible...

Any restrictions on Gr. category cars?

That's the challenge! I want to see what people can do with the difficulty of it :) no restriction on Gr.

Is there any disqualification from doing so? Or would it just be annoying?
No disqualification but if you do mix the 2, try and keep them pretty simple. I don't want to see something that's so noticeably 80's right beside something that is ultra modern. Try and have a good balance.

I feel people might be put off by this one but I wanted to actually challenge people. The other competitions all brought something different but I want it to actually be a challenge this time!

Thank you so much for stepping in as my substitute this round, @Cytoria! I greatly appreciate all the support. And your improved look on the rules and the additions are great. A new standard has been set. :)

Hopefully I’ll je back with my routine in the next one.

In the meantime.. Have fun guys! I’lø try to pop in every now and then!

It's times like these when i wish we still had the 190 E Evo :/

Welp , i have 4 Group C cars and a E30 M3 in my disposal , what could go wrong ?

Hopefully my work burden will be less after next week and I can join in with some livery stuff again...

having said that...

E30 M3 and Group C wouldn't be post 2000 as per the competition rules.

I'm not a major fan of the vgt's so I do offer my apologies for this. Too late to maybe make a change to the rules haha? The only reason I said no vgt is purely because I dislike them. Thoughts and feelings?

@McDotter I love this entry! Exactly what I was hoping for!

Daft question does it have to be a racing livery or can it be a livery inspired by something from the 80’s? Say like Smash Hits, Gremlins or Ghostbusters etc...

anything 80's. Hence the commodore livery

Cheers, I see the Commodore livery as essentially a racing livery which is why I asked

Your theme, your rules!

I'm just poking fun, though I would say generally speaking excluding certain cars or groups of cars, unless they are contrary to the theme, unnecessarily restricts choice.

I know I understand, but itis literally only because I dislike VGT's and have never seen any point in them other than a visual display of ability which is great for the motor industry but otherwise useless.

I feel like maybe they should be allowed, why should they be excluded really?

Actually I want entry with GTR or Supra even P1 car but I fear it will be become straight off replica  so here's me with NSX. Hope it fit with rules :scared:

Edit: Update mine, I not feel finish with NSX it just way too lacky for me then now I put Porsche final entry.

the additional image is superb. Gives the livery something more!! Great job!

Idea on additional image was from Larry Chen video

Being said like that, I like this simple livery turn out on high speed

this is why I asked for the car to be moving. these simplistic liveries look absolutely fantastic on the move.

p.s, Larry Chen is just incredible!

FINAL ENTRY

Porsche engineers, working hard in Stuttgart, have studied and improved upon the ground breaking time travel work first developed by Dr. Emmett Brown in 1985. They have found a way to overcome the flux dispersal issues that previously required the the stainless steel construction of a DeLorean. To mark this achievement they have sent a 2016 911 GT3 RS (991) back to 1985 to compete in the GTO class in the IMSA GT Championships. After convincing their 1985 counterparts to assist them, they acquired sponsorship from Shell Oil. The German drivers Stefan Bellof and Jochen Mass were selected to drive futuristic 911 instead of their Rothmans Porsche 956s.

I watched a lot of Miami Vice when I was a kid.

FINAL ENTRY

So growing up as a kid in the 80's it was pretty likely you'd have Walkman and cassette tapes (millennials may need to check google ) By far the most iconic Walkman of the time was Sony's Sports series, they came in several different guises but almost all were bright yellow. I owned one myself and it was the bomb at the time, I'd happily parade it, tucked into my belt, while rocking out some Metallica or Beastie Boys- ahhhh the times when cool was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal cool :D

As an icon of the 80's I thought it was a cool inspiration for a race car, I kept the design simple with only a few sponsors and lines.

* I updated the livery with different racing stripes and a re-jig of the decals, a new number and adding of the Subaru logo into the black lines which I think gives it a 80's look*

:cheers:Thanks for looking!!

This really brought back memories...though I never had a Sony, always had some cheap Walkman from another brand
