I found my Speedlite 155A, popped a few AA cells in it, and plugged it into the hotshoe on my Canon T3. I turned the switch to manual, waited about five minutes for the orange light to appear (after the high-pitched squeal of start-up), and fired away.

After 20+ years of stasis, it worked! Too bad it's only good for two shots until requiring a recycle, but putting together equipment that's four generations apart and getting results made my night.

I've been itching for a 28mm, 30-35mm and a 40mm. I also think a 105 would be nice and hope to soon replace my cheap 135 with something nicer. The latest lens I've been obsessing over is the Pentax K 28mm f2, it's super rare though and also expensive so I don't see that happening.

Some changes in the gear. The XTi (400D) is being indefinitely lent to a friend so they can learn some photography, and I sold/gifted a few of the M42 lenses. Picked up the Nikon from a family friend, along with the F mount lenses minus the 55/1.2. The Sony was the result of an excessive about of discussion and deliberation on a mirrorless upgrade.

I added the SMC Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 to my list as well as a Sigma 24mm f2.8 Super Wide II which happens to be an awesome lens. I met a guy to get a minolta 35mm but the blades were stuck so on a whim I bought the sigma from him and man is it sweet! I will post pictures soon enough.

I also added the Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA Lens to my kit and am very happy with it, it was pricey but it get's the job done and I've been wanting a lens that was light and compact with AF and the 35 is a lens I've had my eye on. It's pretty freaking sharp but the focusing could use some improvement, not sure if this is the lens or the body or a combination of both, either way I was aware the focus on the a7's wasn't the best so I can't really complain.

I recently (in the last few months, I guess you can call that recent) switched into a Canon system after being with Nikon since I began photography.

I am thinking about saving for a Nikon D3100 next

Why not go for the D3300 over D3100 if you're gonna stay in the Nikon family?

I would like to have a D3300 much more of course but I'm on a budget so a D3100 is perfectly fine for me.

What is your budget? The difference between the two is pretty massive and you can find a two lens D3300 kit new for $400 or less I believe. Used I'm sure you can find a used body for $300 or less.

Its around $200 and I can find a used D3100 body for around $150 to about $200 depending on the condition. Or I may just go ahead with a used D3200 body.

Just wait and get the D3300... 2 years newer and the features and ISO performance reflect that. Otherwise I suspect you'll want to upgrade sooner if you go with the D3200. Patience for the $50 to $100 more a used D3300 would cost over the D3200 is worth - prices pretty much only go down on entry level dSLR bodies. The D3100 just isn't worth it as an upgrade in my opinion, as it will still show its age painfully versus newer options.

Never ventured in here before. My actual list of cameras is way more than I could be bothered to post here, but I only use two regularly. I also have various film cameras.

Bodies

Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Hahnel Battery Grip

Nikon D3300 with Andoer Battery Grip (essential really as the small body was really uncomfortable)

Canon EOS 20D with Canon Battery Grip (I use this now exclusively with M42 lenses.)

Lenses

Canon EF 17-40 L f4.0
Canon EF 70-200 L f4.0
Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II (sold the newer USM version)
Samyang 800mm Mirror Lens
Nikon AF-S 35mm f1.8
Nikon AF-P 18-55 f3.5-5.6 kit lens

Helios 44M-4 58mm f2.0
Pentacon 50mm f1.8
Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f1.8

I don't have any of my shots to hand on my phone and I'm waiting on a Macbook Pro to start editing recent photos, so here's my Instagram handle

I forgot about this thread! I may as well post my updated list:

In readiness for 2 weeks in the Caribbean over Christmas and New Year, I bought this lot today...

Meike MK 6.5mm f/2.0
GODOX TT350S TTL Wireless Speedlite Flash
128gb super fast memory card
Velbon mini tripod (have a full size one, but want one I can travel with)

Couple of spare batteries & charger
Various filters (UV, polarising, ND's)
Lens hood
Case
Screen protector

Looking forward to it all arriving on Tuesday - I've been without a decent camera since losing my RX100 III last year, so looking forward to getting back in to it.

Today seems a good time to update this as I have just finished my first day as a professional photographer. I am the photog for an online and bricks n mortar antiques centre, about 35 minutes from home. A decade of continuous development, finally a life goal achieved.

Work

Nikon D800 with 35mm f1.8
24" iMac with 16gb RAM. Utilising Lightroom and Photoshop CC

They intend to grow their social presence and are looking for possibly adding more editorial type work from me, for which I'd strongly consider integrating my Fuji JPEG workflow as the files are quite wonderful SooC.

Current personal use

Fuji X100F
Fuji X-M1 with 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 (This combo cost me less that £150 and they're both fantastic)
Viltrox EF to FX Mk.1 adapter - allows AF and aperture control of EOS lenses on Fuji
Canon EF 17-40 f4 L, EF 70-200 f4 and EF 50mm f1.8 II
eBay special M42 to FX mount which I mostly pair with my Helios 44-4
Canon EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 20D
Panasonic Lumix FZ70 travel camera with 30x Optical Zoom
13" MacBook Pro non-touch with 8GB RAM and 128gb SSD.

Four years later my list needs an update. New items in bold. It's interesting to see how my equipment has changed, I'm assisting on commercial jobs and steadily picking up my own work now:
