Why don't roads and tires use velcro?
we'd all have to drive 8,000hp cars to go 60mph?
Cause that'd have way too much friction and we'd all have to drive 8,000hp cars to go 60mph?
Or something.
Blame the Romans.
I mean, the future cars doesn't even need to use roads or tires anymore.....![]()
The purpose of a tire is to create instantaneous static friction, so that the wheels don’t just spin in place. If you were to use velcro, you’d create both static and kinetic friction (from the velcro trying to pull apart as the tire rolls forward), which is exactly what you don’t want, as kinetic friction creates a force opposite your direction of travel. Why don't roads and tires use velcro?
Even better - the road should be one huge magnet and the tyres made of solid steel.
Maybe youre joking, but for the record, that would work even worse than velcro.Even better - the road should be one huge magnet and the tyres made of solid steel.
Heh, and I thought this was a thread about ditching birth control....
