Audi/pug skip out on 90 percent of the ALMS series and barge in stealing all the camera time!

I kinda hope both teams get showed up by an Aston :)

Yeah I know, never happen...

Today we'll have three practise sessions.

3 PM (1 hour long)
7.55 PM (1 hour long)
Midnight (2 hours long)

Curious info on Marino Franchitti and his close racing family (brother Dario and cousin diResta) but it's on the french version of the site only (http://www.lemans.org/fr/actualites...?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=www.lemans.org)

Bottom line, they all excel in their racing (Dario champion at Indy, Marino champion at the ALMS, diResta DTM champion and so far a good promise in F1). But:

- Dario never raced an F1 or at Le Mans
- Marino never raced Indy or F1
- diResta never raced indy or Le Mans

funny :)

At Sebring both factory teams lost out to Oreca's Peugeot and Highcroft's LMP1 Acura. Oreca is also back, sadly Highcroft kept THE BEST PETROL LMP1 IN THE WORLD ... in the garage (or wherever that awesome car is).

Sorely missed ...

I'm actually a bit surprised with the apparent lack of interest for this race. We had 3 practise sessions already and things are looking pretty even. Don't know about you guys, but I'm already checking my weekend's agenda, I want to watch this live as much as possible.

Anyway, for those interested, here's the latest from Road Atlanta:

Practise Session #3 ended.

LMP1 Results

1 - Allan McNish - Audi R18 - 1:09,768
2 - Stephane Sarrazin - Peugeot 908 - 1:09.770
3 - Romain Dumas - Audi R18 - 1:09.784
4 - Anthony Davidson - Peugeot 908 - 1:09.883

That's 2 THOUSANDTHS of a second between 1st and 2nd. And 14 between 2nd and 3rd. 4th place is clearly off pace, Davidson is more than ONE TENTH away from pole :D

Not even in Formula One we see this :sly:

In other news, the HPD cars were the fastest in the LMP2 class, by some margin

And things get interesting again in the GT class. Here the results, 8 guys separated by very nearly one second. The GT race is going to be mental, I think 👍

1 - Augusto Farfus - BMW M3 GT - 1:19,833
2 - Joey Hand - BMW M3 GT - 1:19,858
3 - Pierre Kaffer - Ferrari F458 - 1:19,942
4 - Ed Brown - Ferrari F458 - 1:20,727
5 - Olivier Beretta - Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 - 1:20,872
6 - Oliver Gavin - Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 - 1:20,885
7 - Anthony Beltoise - Ferrari F458 - 1:20,887
8 - Jaime Melo - Ferrari F458 - 1:20,901

Wish I could watch Petit in full like I did last year, but I'm shooting the BritCar 24 this weekend sadly! :(

Will have to listen to RLMs podcasts. :D

It is also an ILMC event, so it makes it a bigger deal for the whole world.

Bags packed, car prepped. Ready to go.

Yes I was actually surprised when I saw the likes of Melo/Vilander/Fisichela/Collard/Prost at Estoril.

During the autograph session I very nearly came to ask Fisichella (very nice guy btw) what was he doing there and why was he gonna miss Petit Le Mans. Obviously I wasn't aware that these guys and their teams can do weekly back to back races across the Atlantic.

Thinking about it, its even more impressive that the teams like AF Corse and Rebellion Lolas/Toyota can do it. Obviously the cars that were run at Estoril for the 6 hours race last Sunday aren't the cars to be used at PLM, , so we're talking about having at least two fully working structures, one in each side of the Atlantic.

Portuguese driver doing Pole in GT-Am class

Stream with very good quality. But I can't help to notice that this ALMS stream of a race in the USA isn't available in ... the USA. Very strange that north americans have to pay for it and the rest of the world gets it free ...

Different kind of fight up front in qualy. They punched for the knockout real early and then pitted.

P2 slightly more drawn out sparring.

Luis Diaz takes a last second P2 pole with a 1:12.3.

Think P1 will be more interesting in actual race.

Yep, was a bit odd to see them all parking long before the session ended.

And maybe it's just the way it is really, but I feel a bit dissapointed with the Oreca's lap. They'll need to be closer (to the works teams) than this if they want to remain in the lead lap for long.

Although ... cautions will help I guess.

This is just killing me. It seems like lemans.org is getting their feed from ESPN. So even if you're in the US and you don't have ESPN3, you can't watch the feed. Using a proxy server/IP blocker like hotspot shield works but the bandwidth is terrible. I was able to watch the stream for about 2 minutes and now nothing.

Since the ALMS wasn't able to work out a deal with SpeedTV, coverage this year has been a joke. You can either watch truncated "amature hour" coverage on ABC a day to a week later, or jump trough hoops with shady feeds, or you're lucky enough to be in the 10% of the population who's TV provider has ESPN3.

What a way to alienate their fans. That Scott Atherton can bill this as "great thing' and do it with a straight face, is a joke.

Vilander!!!!!

Their season has been a huuge disappointment all around. Just crap at every race, even the ones they were winning.

EDIT: constant yellows reflecting just how gritty this race is. Winners a real toss-up here. Caution a lucky break for Audi #1, though.

"The naysayers of alms & le mans must be nascar fans from down south or wherever" - Don Panoz in the espn/ alms site commentary box. LOL Let the series carry on forever!

I'm planning on watching ABC's coverage of Petit Le Mans tomorrow, but it only shows it on from 4 PM to 6 PM, are they really only showing 2 hours of the race?

Probably. They did something similar at Sebring.

Really? The only other way to watch it "officially" is on ESPN3.com and thats exclusive to the states, so being in Canada I can't get that, and the only other option I have if I want to watch it on TV(I hate sitting at the computer for hours on end watching stuff) is the 2 hours ABC is covering, of a 10 hour race? that sucks!
