Rumour? Spoken to Ulrich Baretzky lately? From the get go the R18 was designed to be hybridable when Audi felt the time was right and it appears that 2012 will be the year of the hybrid at Le Mans with a possible 5 hybrid factory P1s and possibly even 2 more non-hybrid R18s in the hands of a semi works team...

Actually the rumour says 2 hybrids and then the rest standard r18 for insurance .

I wonder when Wirth Research will reveal the closed cockpit version of the ARX-03.

Yes and all the semi works teams! We just need Mercedes back, and Jaguar. Mclaren would make a cool LMP program, but they wont

Mercedes will probably not come back for a long time. Or until at least BMW jumps into the LMP1 category (which I have a feeling they will in a few years).

But lady luck seems to have a grudge against the silver arrows...Did the Sauber team in 1989 desecrate an old burial ground after they won the 89 race?

Is this being developed? Never heard or read anything about a closed ARX ?!

I read about it on Mulsanne's Corner a while back, it should be archived. I would look it up for you, but I'm at the library so I should be studying.

I think they are making one because aren't the ACO rules mandate that all LMP1 cars must be closed cockpit.

That, or the main reasoning is that the closed cockpit cars are more aero efficient, and Le Mans is all about green tech nowadays.

They "Must" be closed cockpit? I thought it was just whatever you pleased, but Audi opted for closed this year...

2014 rules will likely mandate LMP1 must be closed cockpit along with shorter and thinner dimensions (length/width).

Honestly I'm not sure when it comes to LMP2 but I don't believe they will have the same mandate as P1 is being pushed more and more into a manufacturer class with an eye on efficiency whilst P2 is for the privateers and thus not so concerned with efficiency.

I'm sure you guys heard about Alex and Martin Brundle being paired up with Zytek for Le Mans next year? I believe it's P2, but not sure

Both driving a Zytek-Nissan for Greaves in P2...old news now.

Yes I know that. But how do you think it will turn out! Alex has proven at times he isn't a very patient driver.

Should work out as a great driver pairing as Martins influence should improve Alexs performance on and off the track. Definitely one to watch in 2012.

I think its safe to say Alex isn't better than Martin. Back in the day, Martin was one of the great talents of junior formula and regularly led the Jaguar sportscars to victory several times.
Alex could achieve better results in F1 possibly if he gets lucky, but I don't consider him as talented as Martin is/was. He's decent at least and he should be pretty reasonable in an LMP - most open-wheel drivers usually are.

I have a lot of respect for Martin Brundle's skill as a racing driver (must say I also like the guy after hearing him in his commentator duties). He simply wasn't lucky in F1, but if anyone cares to read about his F1 career there are some fantastic achievements to be found it.

Sportscars made up for it though, all crowned with a great Le Mans win.

From history and stats all of the father-son driving families the father always is a better driver. (Except Jaques Villeneuve since he won more than Gilles, but Gilles career was cut short so we may never know.) One prooven is the Petty Family. But Alex will most likely go to f1 just because if his name.

JRM steps up to the WEC with Honda

The FIA World Endurance Championship has gained further momentum following Thursday’s announcement that JRM Racing will enter the global sports car championship with a brand-new HPD ARX-03a.

The British-based organization, which won the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship, will make the switch to the ACO and FIA’s new endurance series after two successful seasons campaigning Nissan GT-Rs, which culminated with the teams’ and drivers’ titles for Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm.

“After achieving success at the highest level of GT racing, we are now looking for a fresh challenge and we see competition in endurance events as the next step for the team,” said JRM Group Executive Director James Rumsey. “We have chosen the Honda as it’s a well-developed package and currently the most competitive of the petrol-engined LMP1 cars.”

JRM’s new program, with a yet-to-be-announced driver lineup, will kick off at the 60th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March, following an extensive pre-season testing program.

Being able to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the key event in the eight-round championship, was one of the selling points in confirming its WEC effort, according to Rumsey.

“Having Le Mans included in the calendar is a significant factor for us,” he said. “It has always represented the pinnacle of motorsport achievement and therefore, it’s been a goal of ours to compete since the company started racing two years ago. We therefore hope that our entry will be accepted this year.”

JRM becomes the second privateer LMP1 team to officially commit to the WEC, joining Strakka Racing, which will also campaign the HPD ARX-03a in the premier prototype ranks.

As many as 35 entries are expected for the WEC, which will be announced on Feb. 2 at the championship’s official launch in Paris.

The possibility exists for three of the Honda-engined P1 cars to be at Le Mans, if American Le Mans Series stalwarts Muscle Milk Pickett Racing take up their automatic invitation to the twice-around-the-clock classic.

Despite its expansion to the WEC with Honda Performance Development, JRM has retained its association with NISMO as its official partner for development and sales of the Nissan GT-R GT3, which made its debut in the Blancpain Endurance Series late last year.

Rumsey also hasn’t ruled out a return to the FIA GT1 World Championship for a third consecutive season if funding could be found. So far, only Hexis Racing and Team WRT have officially confirmed entries for the series, leaving some questions over its future.

JRM is expected to name its LMP1 lineup, likely a three-driver roster, in the next few weeks. David Brabham, the former Highcroft HPD ace who drove for JRM’s satellite team Sumo Power GT in the GT1 World Championship in 2011, is believed to be one of the front runners.

Sounds very interesting, looking forward to seeing what happens with this.

Am I the only one struggling to figure out how the ACO & FIA have scheduled a race at the very same track while this is still going on?

Racing(or any sport) shouldn't be a political statement.

The GP isn't until late April and the WEC race is at the end of September, anything can happen before either event.

Yeah I hear you. Thing is though, if that was a big enough issue to cancel a GP, whos to say it won't do the same to a Sportscar race? I just don't think its wise to schedule any race when the country is supposedly still in Turmoil, unless they are very confident that things will be settled by September.

Whilst I do hope that the political issues in that country resolve themselves in a timely manner with minimal loss of life, I also hope they do cancel the race, and maybe fill it in with Petit Le Mans?

Good news on the JRM. I guess Highcroft's exploit last year at Sebring made many look at the LMP1 HPD car as a good basis for privateer entries.

So we have now 3 of those: STRAKKA, MUSCLE MILK and JRM.

Interesting one for JRM. I found out about that on christmas day as I went to a party with someone who works for them. I would've put it here but I presumed it was old news.

So the Nissan P1 deal didn't work out for JRM then...ahwell it's good to see them with the HPD, quite alot of promise with that chassis/engine combo.
