Session 2
Pretty much the same....

I wish they would get rid of the fins, we've only just gotten rid of them in F1 and now they ruin LMPs too! It also seems pretty debatable whether they really prevent roll-overs.
The R18 would look much better without it, as other than that its a nice car (though its front is a bit ugly).

I also liked the black livery of the R18, but i still think it looks good.

Is there no video clips or anything from todays test? I would love to see an onboad lap or just see the cars go by the pit straight or something :(

Livery for the R18 revealed. Silver cars with Black, Red and Yellow parts to make them different.

Pity the car is so ugly ... here's a pic of the yellow, taken from autosport.com

When I think of the Audi R8, R10, and R15, I think of the silver and red livery.

So, for me the silver is a step in the right direction, so now it just needs the red.

The Joest cars wear Red for #2 and Yellow for #3 and black/silver for #1 as its the North America car. Open to correction however.

Silver is apparently the national colour of Germany (hence so many silver racing cars) and I'd hazard a guess and say your correct in using the 3 German flag colours to highlight each different car.

Apparently the third Audi - the one that would have black where the other two have red and yellow; possibly car #1 - will have a special custom livery.

Sigh. Audi look like they're gonna win AGAIN. Without Peugeot's accompanying them the races would be a lot more boring. But even so with Audi winning all the time anyway it's getting boring now. At least Peugeot have stopped them before...but that was back when Audi hadn't quite perfected the R15 yet.

There's no way Audi is gonna win this years Le Mans.

Definitely want Peugeot to win this year. :)

Those shark fins just need to go. They make the cars look absolutely ridiculous.

Good to know your opinion of looks rates higher than that of the engineers and aerodynamicists who created the dorsal fin....

Damn straight. It's never been proven to have anything more than a tiny advantage. It's supposed to prevent the cars having these large accidents where the cars literally take off but I just can't get my head around how bad it looks. That isn't how a racing car should look. If it's going to save lives then that's fantastic, it's a shame they couldn't find a better solution.

I was under the impression it's intended to stabilize the car in a straight line, similar to F1. Should be susceptible to crosswinds though.

Nope, its there to stop the car from flipping once its travelling sideways (sliding) by acting as a kind of air brake, in a straight line it does a minimal amount of stabilizing. Remember the Pug that crash a year or two ago at Le Mans? it was rotating around its centerpoint and went nose into the wall and apparently crashes like that will be less likely to occur with the 2011 spec LMP's.

Go Audi!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but im with you about more exciting races. i wish there was more competition going on. there just are not enough cars in each class(Besides GT). Lets get lemans with 100 cars . 25 LMP1s would be a lot of fun to watch all day.

Not good for Aston. Also, judging from the two spectator videos, the Peugout is the better sounding than the Audi.

i was wondering why Aston went to an open cockpit. After seeing audi just switch to a closed one.

Does anyone know if the Audis and 908s plan on competing in ALMS at all? They showed up at Sebring with an uppity attitude (the French drivers did, at least), and the Audi team didn't even use their new car because it wasn't ready. Then neither car raced at Long Beach. Though unfortunately the LMP category was skimpy and boring anyway. The Mazda and AM weren't really close to each other...

Why I pay more attention to GT entries in both series.

Are FLM cars racing at Le Mans this year? I remember the Oreca taking off and nearley hitting the Audi at Monza 08'.

They both participate in ALMS. But both teams were probably getting ready for practice at Le Mans & testing the weeks before hand. SPA & Monza are coming up so the teams will probably focus more on that than ALMS. Maybe have the 24h they will return for some races.

The factory teams are only doing ILMC and Le Mans, it's been that way for two years now.
