I was under the impression this thread was a culmination of all those series/events. Can you post a link?

EDIT: nevermind I checked the OP and it does say there's a separate thread. I'll find it, probably at the top.

No, we are trying to seperate the topics from this thread because its far too confusing. One minute the thread is talking about ALMS, the next someone posts a piece of news about FIA GT1, then the discussion gets going on the 24 Hours or Daytona..its just a confused mess not a discussion.

All news should be given is own thread, or at the very least the LMS, ALMS, GT1, GT3, etc should all have their own seperate threads. Major races such as Le Mans, Spa, Nurburgring, Daytona, Petit, etc should all have their own threads too so people can discuss the particular incidents, share streams and links etc easily.
If people don't like it and only want to view F1, NASCAR or Rally news then they can simply click the relevant thread tags. Its not like this forum is overflowing with short discussions anyway.

So, no, we should stop using this thread as its a monstrosity of mutated discussions. I dare you to try and follow the discussion in this thread from page 1.

More details about the World Endurance Championship:

There will be six races, with two in Europe (one of which will be Le Mans), two in Asia and two in America. All races will be at least six hours long, and it will use the 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 points system used in Formula 1 and the WRC.

As for the calendar, I think I'd like to see Le Mans and Spa as the European races, Interlagos and the Circuit of the Americas as the American rounds and probably Suzuka and Speang as the Asian events.

Well, the thing is that there's only going to be two European races, and one of them - Le Mans - is already spoken for. But there's a whole host of fine racing venues in Europe that would be fitting for the other calendar spot: Spa, Siverstone, Monza, the Nurburgring and even Aragon. So I figured the race should go to Spa, and have one of the American races in Austin, which at least has corners lifted from Silverstone since it's unlikely that Montreal would get an endurance race.

Oh thought it was Le Mans, two European, two American etc... (I only skim read you post but I saw the article you linked earlier this morning)

Now I'm sad as I think both Spa and Silverstone should be on the calender. On balance I'd prefer Silverstone as I've been the past 5 years to the 1000km race and it's 9obviously) easier to get to.

It's SEVEN races, 2 european + Le Mans 24 Hours-

Here the full news, as shown in ACO's official site

Only reason why they didn't last year is 'cause they drove all their cars into the ground trying to catch Audi....but, both Audi and Peugeot have new cars this year.

I'll miss Spyker this year, but they'll be back next year with a new car. But...Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Peugeot....heck all we need is a Mercedes LMP car and we've got the 1998 LeMans all over again. The 98 LeMans without the CLR.

Duffers917K
1998 Le Mans (notice how Le Mans is two words?) didn't have any CLR's.

Le Mans 1998 had CLK-GTR's. But i wish Toyota came back with a new Gt-one. But Le Mans isn't the same without Porsche,Jaguar, etc. But in my heart is Audi & no Peugeot. But they don't have Jaques Vilenueve (however you spell that)

Quali 2 is 30 minutes from now I think. And that is 7 PM local time.

Quali 3 is between 10 PM and Midnight local time.

What happened to people actually using the race thread?

Looking at the new WEC, I wouldn't be surprised - indeed, I kind of hope that they will - if they went to South Korea. I think the circuit would be a good one for an endurance race, because the first sector tests the engines, the second sector tests the driver, and the final sector tests the setup. And the circuit needs another series.

If there is a standard minimum distance for the FIA/ACO WEC will it be the same that's currently used in the Le Mans Series - 6 hours or 1000km? ANd if Sebring and/or Petit Le Mans are on the schedule for 2012, I imagine they'll retain their distances. (12 hours and 10 hours/1000 miles)

+1

The Yeongam circuit needs more racing on it, it showed potential when F1 went there last year. I wouldn't be surprised if there was more than 1 Asian WEC race next year (China being one), with Toyota and Nissan slowly getting back into Le Mans Racing. Fuji, Zhuhai and Yenognam, three Asian fly-aways; seems reasonable?

Yeah I suppose Conrod and Mountain straights might be a bit sketchy in a prototype but it would be an epic race. We did have a 24 hour race here for a few years a while back with I think GT2 spec cars racing.

How come the Nurb 24 doesn't get as much glamour internationally compared to Le Mans?

I mean how often do you hear about companies taking their cars to La Sarthe to test them instead of at the Ring?

Nurburgring24 is only touring/GT cars and is missing the massive history that Le Mans has. People know Nurburgring's GP track and the green hell due to it's awesomeness but many actually forget that there is a 24hr event there.
