Couldn't be TVR...could it?

Maybe it's Lot... oh wait.. err.. no can't be them. They're already in Formula 1.

Jaguar? BRM? Wait.. BRM isn't a brand-name.

It could just be Manor that they want to revive, not necessarily a defunct automotive brand.

Lotus! Oh, wait...

Could it be Tyrell?

Let's not get ourselves carried away here - a spokesman for King has made it clear that the deal still hinges on the team getting approval to run the MR03 chassis. It's believed that some of the smaller teams might oppose the move as they want access to the £40 million payout that the team would be entitled to.

Having said that, I can't imagine that the teams would whinge about the financial state of smaller outfits and then reject a rule change that would let a small, struggling team.

It's indeed a long shot of it working out for him.

I don't think so - King is a pretty powerful businessman in his own right. He didn't get to that position by making announcements like this before time.

Absolutely disgusting.

The teams will happily present themselves as a universal good suffering from the FIA and Bernie's inherent unfairness. But the moment they are put in a position where they can make good on their talk of supporting smaller teams, they abandon their principles to suit their own means. They're blatant hypocrites, and they will try to drown it out with claims that they were acting in the interests of the sport.

I am now more convinced than ever that the teams are the biggest problem with Formula 1.

Just completely silly that a team wanting to run a year old car was rejected. Heard some rumblings on twitter that Vijay Mallya was part of the veto on that.

It's believed that he was, but all of the smaller teams are accountable here - by blocking Manor's entry, their prize money gets redistributed between existing teams. Which is complete madness since Manor Motorsport have always held that entry; they never gave it up, even when they were in administration.

It's possible that they could still make the grid - Caterham's administrators are still trying to sell the team, and they think that it's possible to miss a race or two. If that's true, then both Manor and Caterham could make a late start provided that they have a 2015 chassis.

Failing that, the FIA and/or FOM could overrule the teams. The FIA has indicated that they are willing to let teams under financial pressure enter with an old chassis, and Manor's entry fee - about £350,000 - has been paid, so I can't imagine that the FIA or FOM will simply shrug their shoulders.

I hope that the FIA or FOM allow Manor to enter with a year old chassis. It's criminal and down right disgraceful that the teams won't allow a back-marker to run a car that's a year old. It's not like it's a threat to any of the teams for crying out loud. And since they paid their entry fee they should be allowed in or given their money back if they aren't.

The only "threat" is that they would get to collect the money they rightfully earned last year, and if they don't compete this year, that money gets distributed to the other teams (I think...).

So a 20 car grid this year, most likely 18 if manor/marussia/Virgin or whatever the hell it's called now doesn't get a car on the grid?

Potentially 16 if Force India's rumored issues are true. Not too farfetched since Vijay Mallya has been in financial trouble himself recently.

If that happends,i see the 3 cars per team idea becoming much more realistic...

Spy.

Auto Motor und Sport claim that Manor haven't been fazed by this in the slightest and are planning on building a 2015-spec car with a plan to debut in Shanghai.

Understand there's plenty of support here on GTPlanet to allow Manor/Marussia to run last years car. Given 2015 cars should be faster than last years, plus the fact that the Marussia was already slow to start with.... Is it even safe to allow the car to run? It will be a moving chicane on the track, do no more than fill grid slots and for this year get nowhere. Will the car even make the 107% rule in qualifying?

I think if anything it would be better if an exemption was made to allow Manor to skip 2015 and start racing again in 2016.

Unfortunately I don't see them getting their £30m bonus if they skipped 2015, even with the FIA's blessing. Their last hope is FOM, after all Bernie/CVC will lose their commercial rights if the grid drops below 20 cars.

If a driver cannot safely lap a slower vehicle, then they have no business being a racing driver, much less in Formula 1. There have always been backmarkers, and there have always been cars to lap, and they gave never proven to be a consistent danger to anyone. I see no reason why that would suddenly change if Manor had permission to race the MR03, and so consequently, suggesting that letting them race is a logical fallacy, an appeal to emotion rather than an argument based on any actual fact.

Source?

My understanding is that the true figure is lower than 20.

Some time back I posted that he had a 3 race grace period to muster 18 (or was it 16?) cars, and then he'd lose the F1 commercial rights he paid $313 million for, unless his lawyers could persuade he made a reasonable attempt to get the requisite numbers
