Yeah, I know it's a strange mix but I have to disagree with your point about Slayer. Fair enough, they may be getting on in years but with the return of Dave Lombardo, they're as hard as nails once more but I have to admit I've bought nothing of Sepultura since Max left .

I agree that Dave will bring something back to the band. Personally, I didn't think much of Paul Bostaph at all. He didn't bring anything special to the band, and you could tell he was nothing but a decent replacement. He also didn't have the Slayer look, if that counts for anything. Dave may bring some life back, but they are still boring on stage. I would love to see them, but watching Live at Hultzfred and War at the Warfield is really boring.

I can't wait for their next album. It will determine to many people, not just myself, whether they can provide something special with the return of Dave.

On the topic of Dave, I would say he is in the top 5 best Metal drummers. He has branched into Jazz, Classical, Rock and many others, as well as with Slayer. He also replaced Lars when he was sick, as a replacement (with Joey Jordison from Slipknot) to play a couple of Metallica's live shows. He is one of my favourite drummers.

I can't believe you think Slayer are boring on stage. In what way are they "boring"??? Have you ever been to a Slayer gig? The sheer energy that the band puts into their performance has to be seen to be believed. The only band that rival them IMO for that intensity is System of a Down.

I said that they are nowadays (with the exception of that show where it literally rained blood!). They used to be an awesome force on stage. Now I haven't been to a Slayer gig, and I would LOVE to, believe me. But, by the looks of it now, they aren't as energetic and exciting on stage anymore (with the exception of that show). Now, seeing them live would be awesome, and exciting in itself, but they aren't exactly a bundle of energy in their later years. Now that isn't their fault obviously, and they were great in their Prime years. But I say again, they don't seem as exciting as they used to be. Take it as you will.

(By the way, the reason I haven't been to one of their gigs, is because I don't remember the last time they were in Australia!)

Sorry Jimmy, I didn't mean for it to come across as an attack on you but every time I've seen Slayer, they've really known how to get the crowd going.

I remember they were supposed to play Dublin 2 days after 9/11 but it was cancelled for obvious reasons. However, they played at the rescheduled gig a month later but Pantera (who were on the same bill) failed to turn up because they feared for their safety.

I remember reading an interview in the run-up to the rescheduled gig and the band members in Slayer were very angry as there were a lot of fans let down by Pantera failing to turn up. Slayer headlined that gig and put on an awesome show that is still talked about to this day.

Well Slayer have some shows, like the Jagermeister tour a couple of eyars back. They blew everyone away. The next year, Slipknot headlined and the show didn't go so good. This year (or net, I'm not sure) they want Slayer back!

But watch War at the Warfield, or Live at Hultzfred. Very boring and disappointing shows. And I know it wasn't a personal attack, you're just expressing yuor views. Don't worry about it. 👍

To be honest, I haven't watched "War at the Warfield" or "Live Intrusion" recently so I can't really remember what those shows were like.

Thankfully, I was in the pub when Slipknot were supporting Metallica this year as to my mind the only good thing about them is their drummer Joey who I feel would be much better in another band. I really cannot stand Slipknot as their shock tactics on stage are well and truly blown out of the water by GWAR!

Gwar rule!

Joey is a great drummer, and I agree 100% that he should be with another band. I think that Slipknot would be good with either a new singer, or if their singer didn't sing soft. Also, sing about better things than hating his father...

If they fixed that, I would actually like Slipknot.

Gwar is cool, Slipknot is cool too. By the way, I do have "War at the Warfield", its a cool concert (on dvd), the only problem at least for me, is that they did not perform my favorite Slayer song, Serenity in Murder. I have not seen Live Intrussion.

Live intrusion is better than War at the Warfield. I just find Slayer boring on stage in WATW, also in Hultsfred. Live Intrusion is not bad, but nothing great. I want that "Still Reigning" DVD. In their show, it actually rains blood! It's a DVD about the history of Slayer I think, although I could be wrong.

Since I don't have Live Instrusion, what songs are on it? Does it have Serenity in Murder?

Dimmu Borgir - This is a Norwegian black metal band that can beat Cradle Of Filth anytime. Many black metal bands originate from the Scandanavian countries (i.e. Norway, Sweden, and Denmark) and Dimmu Borgir is one of them. Cradle Of Filth, on the other hand, is a black metal band from England. Compared to Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth gets beaten by the former.

I may not be into black metal but Dimmu Borgir is rated as the best black metal band. I do not know; maybe they are, but...

hey everyone. I just heard on Headbangers Ball last night that there will be a compilation coming out on the 28th. I know for sure it has Slipknot, Atreu(sp?), and Lamb of God. But there will be many more, the thing has 2 disks. I'm gonna go buy it, anyone else going to?

Silverzone
Atreu(sp?)
Atreyu. They are more Hardcore Punk than Metal.

Is this the Headbanger's Ball album? I won't buy it, as I don't like a number of the bands on there. But Headbanger's Ball is quite a good show sometimes.

Klonie Gun -- Dimmu Borgir are definately the best Black Metal bands in terms of quality. I don't like Black Metal that much, but they aren't too bad. CoF are just plain bad. Too commercial, and just not good at all. Dimmu's album "Darkness Enthrone Triumph" is probably my favourite Black Metal album. But I don't listen to much.

I wont be buying the headbangers ball album either. I'd rather get an album full of music I like than one with a few songs I like and others that I don't like at all or by artists I don't care for.

Actually, "Atreyu" is a mix of metal, punk, and even a bit of emo... They are one of a number of bands in this new genre (another band would be "Eighteen Visions")... I find it quite distasteful myself... I noticed the beginning of this new genre a few years ago, but the number of bands has increased quite rapidly since then... Unfortunately (at least from my point of view it is) this trend is sure to continue...

;)

silviadrifter -- I'm not very well educated on Punk, but isn't that what Hardcore Punk is? I thought Hardcore Punk was a mix of Metal and Punk.

Also, I hate this trend, too. But the worst genre would have to be "Emo Metal". Killswitch Engage enter this category with a few other bands, and I hope it doesn't kick off.

Actually, Jimmy, hardcore punk is mostly punk rock that is faster than regular punk and it deals mostly with modern anti-social lyrics and/or political actions against the government and not the punk rock that is from the 70s.

Metal and hardcore punk fused together are what you call Metalcore. Hatebreed falls into that category. I like Hatebreed moderately :p

Atreyu falls under "Emo Metal" (or what I like to call "Whiny Metal")... That should be blindingly obvious... Another band that falls under this category is "Eighteen Visions"... I remember the first time I heard a song from "Atreyu"... I was not aware, at the time, that this trend had become so out of hand, so quickly...

I hope it doesn't kick off.

It's a little late for that...

What Klonie said...

Thanks guys. I don't mind a bit of Hatebreed.

Also, I know Atreyu fall under Emo Metal, too. here aren't too many bands at the moment in this category, I'm just saying I hope they don't fill up with more bands.

I am going to buy it, it has many artist I like on it, and the others, well, I will listen to them, I like listening to other bands and see if I like them, or make fun of the band. Has anyone gotten the Resident Evil: Apacolypse soundtrack yet?

Ummm... Actually there are a lot of bands under this category... If you watch "Headbangers Ball" or "Uranium" you are sure to see at least 3 to 6 different "Emo Metal" bands... It is the new hot trend, and it makes me quite sad...

If it makes you quite sad, why are you smiling and winking. :odd:

I bought Shadows Fall - The art of ballance and it's awesome, well that an InFlames - Soundtrack to your escape. I was looking for the new Mnemic album, but it's out on monday so i'll buy it then. Err, yeah it's 4am in the morning.

The wink is the only emoticon I use...

Shadows Fall is definitely one of my favorite newer metal groups... I have yet to purchase "The art of balance" but I hear it is quite good...

In Flames is also one of my favorite bands...

I've heard a few Mnemic songs, and moderately enjoyed them... I'm not a big fan of "Nu-Metal" in general...

;)

I wouldn't consider Mnemic Nu-Metal, I mean I can't think of another Nu-Metal band that sounds like that. Actually one of their albums (Mechanical Spin Phenomena) sounds simmilar to some of the older fear factory stuff, just heavy thrash with some slight bits of Industrial. Eh maybe their latest album is a bit more, err I dunno less heavy sounding but more melodic. I'm all for melodic though.

Oh and got any reccomendations?

I 'acquired' that new Mnemic album about a week ago. Door 2.12 is possibly the greatest song I've heard in awhile. 👍 How they fall under nu-metal I don't know. They don't sing all rappy like, they actually have a fair bit of guitar work and it's decent music... well, unless their new album is different to the rest of their work.

Aquire Mechanical Spin Phenomena and you'll notice a slight difference. Did you know they are on the same label as InFlames?

Well, like it or not they are considered "Nu-Metal"... I thought it was quite obvious... They have a lot of Hip Hop influence, which is very apparent in their "Mechanical Spin Phenomena" album... I have not heard their new album so I cannot comment on that...

Recomendations... Hmmm...

Lamb of God (not a Christian band, I promise)
Otep (This chick can groul with the best of them)
If you're into In Flames you might enjoy "Arch Enemy" they don't have quite as much of the melodic elements that you see with In Flames, but the guitar and drum work is fantastic...

Hmmm... I can usually think of a huge list but, alas, I am sick at the moment and full of decongestants and whatnot... So, I am a bit loopy... I will put together a larger list when my brain is in complete working order...

They do sing in a rap like pattern in quite a few songs on "Mechanical Spin Phenomena"... An example would be the song "Liquid" which also has heavy amounts of scratching (DJ term, for those of you who don't know).. They are different from most other "Nu-Metal" bands but they are still considered part of said genre...

Ok i'll take your word for it, it's on the good end of Nu-Metal. I try not to like/dislike music because of it's genre, although it is impossible not to do this (I'm rambling it's 5am don't mind me). Tanks for the reccomendations, i'll look them up later well after sleep.

Ugh, Lamb of God. I can't stand any metal band where the vocalist moans like he has something stuck up his arse...
