If you are tierd of your power ballads i recommend these:

Dark Throne
Dimmu Borgir
Satyricon
Mayhem
Immortal

Just a handfull but enough to convince you if u dont
know what black metal is about...

My music taste is wide and not just metal...that dosent mean i
like topp20 pop hits...
Still ive never been a fan of bands like halloween.
About 15 years ago Maiden and Slayer was the sound for me
and still is but Slayer cant come up with something i remember
of they`re earlier brilliant days...If u want something new and
brilliant Dimmu borgir is a good choise!
👍

Jimmy, could you recommend some good melodic death metal? I've searched a bit, dabbed into some Children of Bodom, but they didn't really do it for me.

icemanshooter23 -- My personal favourite is Amon Amarth - Versus the World. Great album. But the best resource of any Metal is Metal Archives. Although I strongly recommend you don't sign up and start posting there. You'll get eaten alive.

Furthermore, this is the best thread to look at for all your Melodic Death Metal needs.

Exactly what I would recommend for Black Metal, although I don't usually like Black Metal. Impaled Nazarene is one of the few that I like, and I also like Dimmu Borgir - Darkness Enthrone Triumph. Apart from that Dimmu album, I don't like them at all. Lately, they're travelling down the Cradle of Filth road and selling out.

Are you talking about Helloween or actually Halloween. Sounds like a dumb question, but I'm just wondering. There are a couple of "Halloweens" as well.

Slayer haven't produced anything decent since Divine Intervention in '94.

Could anybody recommend some bands for me to tryout?

I like most of Metallica, some Pantera, and the Mastodon - Leviathan album.

From In Flames - Soundtrack to your Escape, I liked The Quiet Place and Touch of Red (basically the lighter songs).

Also, I liked the Ashes of the Wake album from Lamb of God. I think the better songs were Hourglass, Ashes of the Wake, The Faded Line, and the Blood of the Scribe. For the most part on those tracks, the vocalists voice didn't overshadow the instruments.

I'm sure you've heard Tool before, but if you havn't, give them a try. You might also want to listen to some Sepultura if you want something heavier 👍.

TOOL is easily one of my favorite bands, but not to be a annoying nitpicker or anything but, I would not say they are exactly metal. Some of their older stuff can be heavy at times though. Sepultura got me into metal, and I highly reccomend them (stuff before Chaos A.D. . I say go with Beneath The Remains). Beneath The Remains was the album along with South Of Heaven that got me into metal a while ago.

I have been listening to a lot of Dream Theater lately. It´s Prog Metal, made by very talented musicians.

I recommend you the "Awake" or "Images and Words" albums. Both really good.

I agree that Tool isn't exactly "metal", but it can be classified as progressive metal, and I was giving it as a suggestion based on his other tasts. I only have Chaos A.D. and Roots from Sepultura, but I agree they are very good. 👍

ROAD_DOGG33J -- Slayer got me into Metal. Try "Raining Blood". Although, I'm very much over Slayer. From Sepultura, I'd recommend Chaos A.D., Arise or Beneath the Remains.

Draugen -- I forgot to add, another Black Metal band to recommend would definately be the Impaled Nazarene album I mentioned.

icemanshooter23 -- When you go to Metal Archives, look at the Keyword Search. Type in "Melodic Death Metal" and drop down the box below it, and select Music Genre. Look through that list for a list of every Melodic Death Metal band you can obtain an album from. Also, try out these two albums:

  • Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve.
  • Meshuggah - Chaosphere.

Also, Tool is Metal. Progressive Metal, nonetheless, but I see were you're coming from. It's not Metal as it's commonly viewed, although I accept many of the different genres as Metal. Even Nu Metal, although I strongly dislike the genre. But, I don't accept Emo Metal as a genre. I never will.

Sorry Jimmy i meant Helloween...Just because ive never been into that
music...U cant go from Slayer to Helloween...Just maybe in a later
time.
I didnt like Accept eigther before but after beeing convinced by
a friend i joined him on small consert with them here in Oslo...
Damn what a great consert!
The live performance was better than the record...
I wont buy theyre albums but i would like to see them live again!

Impaled nazarine 👍

Thanks for all the help Jimmy, thats a great site with a lot of information 👍. Tried Amon Amarth - Vs The World last night and it was pretty good.

This is a link to a metal site/magasine in Norway called Imhotep
Wasn´t Imhotep the bad guy in "The Mummy Returns" movie?

the sad thing is, is none of those bands are true blackmetal

Are you talking about the true corny Black Metal? You know, the bands that dress up in witches hats and wizard gowns, and talk about dragons and sorcery? Boring.

There´s a good Brazilian Black Metal band called Krisium (maybe it´s Krisiun I´m not sure). It´s drumer is known for being very fast with his feet lol.

First of all, it's Krisiun. Second of all, they aren't Black Metal. They're Death Metal. And I love that band.

I was pretty sure that they were a Black Metal Band... oh well, I don´t really care since I don´t like their music. :D

I've recently been getting into more and more metal. Now correct me if I am wrong about this genre classification, but I've grown a soft spot for Thrash, Metallica and Megadeath being my favorites. Can anyone reccoment some good Megadeath albums? I have [The System Has Failed[/i]. I'm also looking into getting some Slayer albums. Any reccomendations? I'd ask Matt, but he is moving into a new house and hasn't been on recently.

I'm a big Rammstein and Disturbed fan, as well.

Some others I'been getting into recently, that I'm not really sure if they do classify as metal, are Soil, Cold, Drowning Pool, and Godsmack.

Personally, I hate Megadeth, but everyone seems to recommend their Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? and Rust In Peace albums.

Oh, and by the way, Metallica and Megadeth are heavy metal, not thrash. Slayer are thrash. ;) I also think Soil are hard rock and not metal.

Bah! Curse the man who came up with genres! I'm never gonna get them right! :ouch:

Metallica and Megadeath ARE Thrash Metal. Only it´s a little lighter than today´s Thrash bands.

For Megadeth get Countdown to Extinction and from Slayer get Reign in Blood

Definitely get Reign In Blood. You've probably heard the song Raining Blood, and the whole CD is full of songs of this caliber, including Angel Of Death.

Metallica's not Thrash, that would be bands such as Anthrax and Shadows Fall. LISTEN TO CRADLE OF FILTH! They Rule with awesomeness. Megadeth has some really cool stuff out. I have a new respect for Dave Mustaine since I have seen Some Kind Of Monster. Don't know why, but Megadeth is really cool. Speaking of Some Kind Of Monster, i finally saw it. It is my favorite Metallica DVD. And I have grown to respect St. Anger a little more. It doesn't suck as much as i have once said. It is really good just for how heavy it is. And don't blame Rob for St. Anger being below normal, It was actually Bob Rock who played bass. They got Rob just before MTV Icon: Metallica. I also have a theory of Metallica's albums being less and less awesome. It is Bob Rock. He came in on the Black Album, and after that their albums got worse than the old stuff.

That's the one Slayer song I have heard. It's on the Vice City Vrock soundtrack. 👍

I think I found what I was looking for: Emo-Metal ;)

Worst Genre ever... Contradiction at an epic level...

Metallica's not Thrash, that would be bands such as Anthrax and Shadows Fall

Try again.... Neither Anthrax nor Shadows Fall are thrash...
