what percentage of an artists work has to be heavy for them to be considered metal genre? Coheed and cambria has some pretty heavy songs :p

infact right now i'm listening to Welcome Home.

i think that Death, the band, is the best death-metal-band, as far as i can think of any other. the drumming is from outer space, the lyrics aren't bad and the artwork is also nice! maybe i'm a bit biased, but i like them a lot!! 👍

The bleeding was actually at best buy today. Go figure... They told me they didnt carry it. I also picked up an Emperor album. Im surprised these guys are starting to carry something besides rap. 👍

What's the word coming to? Best Buy also carries R&B, by the by ;)... and I think I once purchased a The Crystal Method CD there too.

Yes, Coheed can kick some pretty heavy sounds. But as for them being metal, it's just not the right type of heavy.

They played some TCM on the radio, but I never heard death metal.

edit: where did I get TCF, damn bankers are on to me

Nile and Deicide are the best death metal bands. The best Nile song is Unas Slayer of the Gods.👍

Since we seem to be talking about heavier metal right now, does anyone listen to Between the Buried and Me? I just recently really got into them, and they're amazing. They're somewhat defined as "metalcore" as they do have passages of clean singing (the singer can rip) and the band is just insanely talented. Their most recent CD, "The Anatomy Of", is all covers. They cover lots of different bands, from Queen (the singer is so good on this, oh my god), Pink Floyd, Metallica, and King Crimson. Their album "Alaska" is amazing, i've been listening to it on repeat for the last couple weeks. Highly reccomended if you enjoy excellent musicianship as well as brutal blastbeat metal. If nothing else, get the song "Selkies : Endless Obsession"

Not to burst your bubble here, but I was actually listening to Between The Buried and Me's cover of Cemetary Gates (sp?), and it completely sucked! I deleted it after.

God lets see what i've been listening to recently.

Gorod's Neurotripsicks, 1349 couple of albums, Atheist's Unquestionable Presence and Necrophagists onset of putrefaction.

God Necrophagist are so so so so so so so so so

it's not even funny.

Anyone ever heard of Warmen? If you're not fond of keyboard solos then stay away from this (mostly) instrmental power metal band.

I'm down with that. I think I'm gonna pick up Alaska Today as a matter of fact.

Edit: It's also a shame that other Victory record bands aren't as good. That entire label has gone downhill 👎

Necrophagist are ****** awesome.

Does anyone here consider Stone Sour metal? Well, I do, and has anyone got to check out the new cd yet? I think it's great. I think Corey should totally forget about Slipknot and keep Stone Sour going 👍.

I have one album of them I think. Didn't like it much.

Last week I also got Dream Theater's Score CD and the Gigantour album too.

I have to say, after listening to this new DT album: Score, I'm pretty disappointed.

I mean, it's yet another DT live album, what are they a dime a dozen now? I used to be a huge DT fan, but over the last several months I've pretty much stopped listening to them.

In my opinion DT went downhill with Octavarium and since this is from the Octavarium tour, there is a great deal of material from that album. They even play some filler material from it. All in all, it's a great album if you're a die hard DT fan, but if you're looking for a good example of DT, this isn't the way to go. Sure, it's neat that they play all the songs in its entirety, but at this point it seems unnecessary. LaBrie sounds better than before, but he's still the weak point in the band.

On to my next point: lack of instrumentalism. Their previous work usually features some instrumental medley, during which LaBrie leaves the stage (to my relief) and lets the amazingly talented band jam together. This album doesn't have that, and if it does, it isn't cool enough to leave an impression.

I don't think we really need another DT live album. This one is just as good as the others, but because of that I'm not giving it such a positive review. It's more of the same, even when that "same" is awesome, ultra-high quality music. If you must buy it, do so because of Petrucci and Myung, who can still play excellent music.

Well, it seems your bad review is based a lot on Labrie.

I actually think he's a great singer, but I understand a lot of people find his voice annoying. I also love live albums, so the more the better to me. Of course you can't just rely on that but DT's live albums are always have unique features from each other. This one's is the Octavarium Orchestra, although I thought they were a bit bland but it's still something we haven't seen or listened to before.

I don't have a final opinion about this album yet but so far I'm enjoying it more than the Live At Budokan album.

About the Gigantour CD - I got it just because of DT and Symphony X, I think this is the only album you can listen to an official live version of Inferno (Unleash The Fire). But I still want the DVD because it features that Cemetery Gates cover DT played with some members of Symphony X and Megadeth. I've been looking for this song for over a year...

I've acquired the new Trivium album, and while I know probably no one else that reads this thread likes them, they have definately progressed from their Ascendancy album. No more harsh vocals, Clean vocals through and through. Matt and Corey's guitar playing has seemed to improve as well. You guys might wanna check the new cd out. If anything, check the title track, The Crusade. It's an 8 minute instrumental track and it definately shows the bands talent. 👍

I think that comment was meant for my post about Trivium.

There is very little screaming on the new album. The only screaming/grunting are backup vocals and a few occasional parts in a few songs.
