I like it. It's has a lot of the classic elements, but looks new at the same time. 👍

All it needs now is to be as good as (or better than) the old Rangey off-road. If it isn't then I will be disappointed, since that was always the Range Rovers strong point.

Am I the only one that thinks it looks fine, for a Range Rover?

No. I like it. It looks like a Range Rover. It's impossible to mistake it for something else.

Aside from the big gills on the doors, I quite like the new Range Rover - it looks great on its own, and you can immediately tell what it is. It also looks far more upscale (as it should) than the new Ford Explorer.

I don't like how it looks, hope I'll get use to it. I had the same reaction as many others, it looked to me a heck of a lot like an explorer. I hope it has enough tech and luxury to make up for the weird looks and bland feeling it gives from looking at it. For now, just give me a mint P38 with modern tech

And the more I look at it next to the Ford Explorer, the more I think that particular comparison is a load of old cock.
While the new Explorer is notably bad in using its footprint efficiently, I think we need to wait for the new Range Rover to come out before we can really determine how many chickens (old or otherwise) it can carry in comparison.

I've seen the new car around 3 or 4 times now, and all I can say is that it's Huuuggeee. For the UK roads at least. Looks good in person though - I'm surprised at the vast size but savings in weight, props to Land Rover. 👍

What ever happened to Land Rover being good for off roading? I am looking at their current line up and they don't really have anything that looks like it would be decent for going off-road.

As for the new range rover, it doesn't look any better to me, probably even a little worse. But I guess there isn't really much that can be changed when the over all shape has to still remain two boxes. Looks like they can't do very much without completely changing the car, kind of like Mercedes with the G-Wagen.

I think it looks better in the videos than in the pictures.

Land Rovers are now functional, stylish, luxurious and practical. All they have now to master is economy.

And I'm pretty sure they're still very capable off roaders - maybe apart from the Evoque - but that's still decent too.

Yup. Even the trendy Evoque is supposed to be reasonable off-road, certainly more so than the chintzy looks would give it credit for. Not that I'd ever risk taking the 4x4 equivalent of an Audi TT off road, but still...

As for the new RR, it's still got decent axle articulation...

...but as far as I'm aware, Land Rover has still worked hard to make it work off road. It's still core to the company's ethos. Even the Freelander is a proper 4x4, and the Discovery still works too. But really, they all have that luxury element too. The previous Rangie made Rolls-Royce look silly for a while with the standard of its interior.

👍 The newest Rangie has more articulation then it ever has done. It can also handle a meters worth of water without effecting the engine or electronics.

Yeah, wading depth has gone up by 10-15cm or something. Frankly I find it pretty amazing what something like the Range Rover is capable of... it'll never be a sports car but pretty much every other base is covered.

Seems they are more capable than I thought.

But how do they compare to the Defender and Disovery 1 and 2? Or the Mercedes G-Wagen?

It looks too big to be truly decent at off road?

But it's good to know that Land Rover is still aware of its roots. I guess looks can be deceiving.

Varies. Many inside Land Rover reckon these newer off-roaders are actually better in some situations than Defenders etc, as they're so full of electronic systems to make them work over any surface that a Defender without all those things, and with a manual gearbox, just can't handle some surfaces as well.

For the properly extreme stuff, I suspect the basic off-roaders are better still. Plus the Defender is narrower than a Range Rover, which helps in really tight stuff.

Disco 1 was always fairly good and Discos 2-4 are essentially the same car. All good off road, but the trouble with the 2-4 is that they weigh just shy of 3 tonnes, which is always going to hinder it eventually.

It looks too big to be truly decent at off road?

This is the problem with most of them these days. Great on all surfaces, but show them a forest where the trees are just a little too close together, and they won't see which way one of these even went:

Plus, I'm not sure who'd actually be mental enough to take £60k+ worth of luxury off roader actually off-roading. If I was actually doing that sort of stuff I'd pick something a bit cheaper...

I saw a heavily camouflaged Range Rover on the M40 a couple of weeks ago. It looked to be a little lower and quite wide. Maybe a prototype Sport model? It was followed by an XK. It looked like this:

except it had a huge rear NASCAR looking flip up style wing with 2 very large central exit exhausts disguised under the bumper.

The current Range Rover prototypes have been quite low and wide themselves, though it may well be a Sport. As for the XK, I suspect that's a drivetrain prototype for the F-Type.

The new Range is quite an improvement over the outgoing model. The engineers went next level with this one. I can't say that I agree with the the new design as in many ways it reminds me of other SUVS and crossovers that came before it however, this is in my opinion still the benchmark if this is the type of vehicle you are need, want, and is in your budget!! :-)

Eww, no, I would never buy an Explorer. Not only is it hideous, but the Mazda CX-9 is much better on road, and any sort of Land rover or Range Rover would be better off road. As would a Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee.

The Explorer has more space than the CX9, but I agree... I'd take the Mazda, anytime. The CX9 is to the transverse-engined faux-SUV class what the X5 is to the faux-SUV we-don't-need-no-stinking-ground-clearance class. :D

Yeah, the Explorers last reviews were extremely subpar. I'm not sure if any of the complaints were addressed but, this one had more than a few things to address before its ready to compete with the rest of the pack!

Hey, it looks a lot better out of the studio.

Funny you post that. In my days living in the Kingdom, I remember Bedouin drivers taking random exits into desert in Land Cruisers with stuff packed to brim on top of the roof.

Good times.👍

High Performance Version Of The Land Rover Sport
While a new Range Rover Sport is a given, Land Rover’s chief of chassis systems, David Waide, seemed to hint at an even more aggressive version of the Range Rover Sport, using family brand Jaguar as an example.

Car Advice quotes Waide as saying, “It’s one of the areas which the business can expand. You’ve seen this with Jaguar and its XKR-S edition. They’ve done very well with the R-S model … so there’s the ability to do those sorts of things with Land Rover product.”

While Jaguar’s R-S models are hardcore performance versions, they still retain enough comfort to satisfy buyers wanting the best of both worlds. Waide doesn’t see a range-topping Sport variant challenging the Porsche Cayenne for segment performance supremacy, especially at the expense of long-distance comfort.

Again citing Jaguar, Waide summed it up with, “If you compare [the XKR-S] with the Porsche equivalents it’s not as sporty; it’s as quick, it sounds fantastic, but it’s also more comfortable. It’s got a balance between GT product and ultimate sports car.”

Expect a high-end Range Rover Sport variant to deliver much the same experience. It won’t be as nimble as the Cayenne GTS, but it will likely be more adept at swallowing up high-speed highway mileage in comfort.

Leaked pics of the Range Rover Sport, it will be officially unveiled at the New York Auto show.

It looks alot like a Evoque....

Like an Evoque, but in those leaked images, an Evoque with atrocious proportions.

Could be a trick of perspective, but the hood looks too long and the windscreen too upright. Hopefully it'll look better in the metal.

Looks exactly like an RRS with Evoque heads and tails.

The rear greenhouse works with the styling, the front... they could have moved the pillars forward for the prfoper rake without compromising sightlines too much...
