Kent will lay them out when he's ready - he's settling on a last few things. If this is anything like TCv2, his rules will be the defininitive rules - I don't think he's looking for a debate session :sly:

<edit> he also may wait until the VTC ends to post them.

There's been some talk and I'm here to both confirm and deny what is going around...

Yes, there will be a "Tuner Challenge Version 3" (TCv3).
Yes, there will be many similarities to TCv2.

There will be no budget restraints.
There will not be any racecars.

There may be debate on rules.
There may not be a democracy. ;)

I'll have something posted shortly, most likely before March 10th or just after. 👍

If you're looking for hints...
Look up Best Motoring's Touge shows and start thinking. :D

You know, I hope I'm not the only one buying BMI DVDs...:grumpy:

By the way, make notice of Touge Showdown entrants with minimal or no aerodynamic enhancements, rollcages are installed on some cars, and that most of them (much older cars are offered an exclusion) are required to have a full interior.

I was just doing that suggestion and what happens........my 2yr old son gets to the PS2, opens it up and re-closes it on my GT4 disk, smashing it into 2. :grumpy: He is now in his room in trouble and I'm minus 1 original copy of GT4 now.

Glad I'm never having kids, if I even get married. (I'm very ugly you know):sly:

Unfortunately for now getting my car into the shape I want it has to take precedence over watching other people race theirs

Well that and those minor details like rent ... food ... but who needs that when you have speed! :sly:

Are a fair number of public domain clips available?

Sorry to hear about the GT4 disc.

Also, regarding BM and the Touge shows...
My suggestion is to keep it legal. 👍
That doesn't mean buy the DVDs either (although I suggest that as well).

What I mean is...
Go to GTChannel.
It is a web site featuring many streaming feeds of BM content (including many touge based clips). BM itself supports the site and allows content to be shared so there's no doubt in my mind that it is legal.
I strongly suggest GTChannel for anyone not willing to find touge material from BM on youtube or through other un-official sources.

I'll be back in touch with all of you soon. Until then,
-Kent

hmm.. I think I'll still stick to my Beemer. It was done on/for N3's and with no budget restrain in mind.. thus, should it use S3's, the handling improves by a mile, slippyness replaced by immense grip.. I tested that yesterday, and I thought that it had r1's or something under it.. So yeah, I'm all set for mountain runs with baby Bimmer. :mischievous:

that had to hurt :ouch:.., we're sorry about that man.., and to think that it's original.., :(

man, my FC is not good enough.., i think i might have made a drift setup..,

*cough*Shameless GTP Plug*cough* jk Kent. :)

I was actually watching the BM's on youtube (please don't sue me!! :P). From what I gathered there up until my son went disk crushing:
S2000 > Evo WRC
S2-Concept/Swift (in JWRC spec) > AE86 w/20valve

I'll be checking more out later today after I go buy a new copy.....bloody brat, now I have to get a Platinum/Greatest Hits version, there's no originals around anymore that aren't scratched to hell. 👎

Well, again, I am indeed sorry to hear about your copy of GT4.
However, it should be noted that "GTChannel" has no relation to the GTP and is literally a Best Motoring oriented site. The "Noblog" (taniguchi's blog) and "Dai for Drift" (daijiro's blog) are both linked through the site. It's really closely related to best motoring (hence the legal BM content).

The only problem is that you don't get nearly as much BM content as possible. Just now they are getting around to posting a 10,000rpm battle and only a month or so ago they finally got around to the Motegi Super battle (which I know has been around for atleast a year, maybe closer to two years).

That said, check in with GTChannel but don't rely on it (since there is such a limited amount of content).

On the subject though... Youtube has stuff that GTChannel hasn't released yet. Specifically, the Touge battles involving cars like the "RE Amemiya? RX7," and the "Amuse 2300" (called the GT1 in GT4).
Personally, some of my favorite stuff is when they use FF cars on the Touge... The Jun Prelude and Seeker EG6 were both awesome. 👍

eBay actually has some nearly-new originals for next-to-nothing I think - I've been looking at buying one - I replaced my original scratched-to-death copy with Greatest Hits and found I can't participate in the WRS because Greatest Hits isn't compatible with the MAX drive's data transfer :grumpy::ouch:

I read the TCv3,

It seems there's no power division exept the drivetrain. (ex : T100, T200, T300)

According to this, we are allowed any amount of HP/Torque ?

Thank for specifying

Regards,
Snyp

Indeed, you've got it right.
With streets as bumpy, twisty, and narrow as Citta di Aria's T1 sector, the power and weight may be governed by the tuner's themselves for the sake of performance and handling. 👍

Can I also ask, is downforce up to us too?

Thanks.

I already got me a RWD entry, but I need to confirm some settings.

Indeed, pretty much everything is allowed and I'm headed over there to take care of these little details officially. 👍
Ask all the questions you like (everyone).

Are we allowed to judge 1 or 2 categories and enter the other categories (mix a bit of judging with a bit of entering)?
Can the special award be anything the judge makes of it?
Speed plays a small part in the judge's criteria?

"Any particular reason it says S3 tires only"?
Yes, because that's what I wrote. ;)
Actually, I don't want any of the tire worries from last time around. When I allowed more than one type people ended up wondering if the tires were the biggest difference.
As for N tires, I took time to consider all the options and decided that for this tuner challenge N tires were not the way to go.

Regarding mods... Take it for what it says in the thread. 👍
Weight reductions, etc etc are all allowed (though not required).

Regarding judging 1 or 2 categories... You can judge all three and enter all three. Public displays of scoring and a judge approval process should help keep judges from destroying the fairness of the competition.

The special award is indeed "whatever the judge makes of it" as long as there is some merit to the claim (another reason it is important to have quality judges).

Also, speed should play a small part in the judges' scores. This sort of tuner touge challenge is more about tuning a car to handle well than to run fast laps. Think about it like this... Want fast lap times? Get a fast driver, or get more power/ less weight. However, if you want a car that feels good to drive- tune it right and use the right car. The Tuner Challenges are about creating a tuner that feels good to drive, something fun and impressive.

Hope that clears up some of the questions (although the answers to a few of them might have been in the other thread). :D

You're a champion Kent  Thanks. I'll send you a judge's post soon/now. I already have a car I'd like to enter in the RWD category, that might do me this time. I might enter the AWD too yet though. If only there was a road going Calibra AWD model in the game.

I've got my method setup of judging how to improve my cars....I'm creating a 'Phantom' T1 check marker so I can then judge the quickness of the car going up the hill and then from through the chicane to the official T1 marker itself. Just deciding which will be the best for each category will be harder.

Every time I get a faster T1 I just complete a faster lap. Then I'm going by a constantly active ghost replay. It's more time and mileage consuming but it's more effective.

I hate to tell you this but, that's not going to work. :indiff:

You could easily achieve everything you want to without phantom markers. It makes me worry but I'm not going to go any further on that subject, rather, I'll just tell you how to achieve your goal.
Save the replay past T1, watch the MPH during the replay, find the top number before the first real turn, then find the bottom number during the first turn. That alone will give you how fast a car can go through the turns as well as how fast it runs at the top of the hill.
The problem with that is... The sector time is secondary to the feel. 👍

Well... Back to the game for me. :dopey:

By the way Kent, smart idea using a whole new thread closed to entrants and judges only, very smart.

Actually, I just mis-wrote my thoughts. :dunce:
The thread is open to entries, questions, suggestions, and general chit-chat. 👍

nd 4 holden spd's post below this...
Of course you were supposed to post your car there. 👍
