The next tuner challenge..

I'm just going to pipe back in here and say- aren't touge tracks narrow anyway? (I don't know- I'm literally asking :) ) In a size division the large cars would only compete against large cars, but really- I'm not worried. Just go with Nurburgring I say now, 1 division fits all and no advantages or disadvantages at all to any car. I think I'd rather judge 1 division on 1 track than 2 divisions on a different track. (Yes that's my laziness speaking :sly: )

The "typical" touge course is a mountain pass with two opposing lanes of traffic. Think Tail of the Dragon. Nurburgring would be just about right, perhaps erring slightly to the wide side, but most of the tight sectors of Citta err seriously to the narrow side.

now that i think about it, CLS is right.., maybe that is the reason why SEGA lessened their courses from IDAS Ver. 3 to 4.., they kept Akagi and Akina and used Shin-Myogi instead of Myogi because those three mountain passes meet the conditions of what CLS described: a mountain pass with two opposing traffic lanes, wide enough for overtaking.., so, i also agree with using the 'Ring's T6 to T9..,

+1 for T6 - T9, it does feel the most "touge"-ish. Its my least favourite section of the Nurburgring too :D

I'd say T1 - T5 myself though, purely because of that high speed section leading to the right-hand hairpin (I forget the name of that section), you can really find out how good a car's stability and brakes are around there. Then theres the medium and low speed corners around that area too.

Through Schwedenkreutz to Aremberg is the corner combination you mean. T1-T5 is a challenging section too but high power gets too good a chance timewise to make up for worse handling.

Kent, you also mentioned the problem of no runoff on realistic touge courses. If we're asking for clean laps in the spotrace, it makes no difference. Slam into a wall or run off into the grass, the pass still doesn't count.

Sorry it took me so long to address this but I just wanted to mention...

There is a huge difference between "Clean" GT4 racing and what would be appropriate for the recreation of the touge.
I'm not sure if I said it in my last reply but "all four wheels on" isn't the same thing as "clean" or standard OLR rules.

With that in mind, the Touge doesn't let you go 2 wheels off... In fact, for the most part you can't get too close to the edge of the touge (depending on leaves and other types of debris).

Just something to consider. :sly:

It's a shame GT4 doesn't have the Gunsai Touge. :(
I hope it ends up in GT5! Heck, PD does so much related to the Touge (did you guys know the Amuse S2000 GT1 was developed in conjunction with PD?).

Any way, until next time,

I'd imagine the additional production time for mapping out Gunsai was inacceptable. They could have reused game assets from Deep Forest and the Nordschleife, but fence placements, rock faces, bumps, and the sheer complexity of the facility are a big no-no. At best, we'd see it as a downloadable expansion after "Guran Tsurisumo Faibu", but that's being wishful.

By the way, you might want to pick up the Hot Version International, Vol. 1 DVD; just around $18 and under, around here. Orido was even stupid enough to unleash his Ridox Supra on Gunsai on this DVD...

i wish that they would include any touge at all, especially Mt. Haruna.., it would look damn gorgeous if PD would include it in their roster.., :D:embarrassed:

Haruna + 787B...

 That could cause some slight problems, eh?

Not nearly as much as Haruna + 1886 Benz. :scared:

But realising that PD would put the gutters in too... I can imagine some damn good overtaking in races

So are we %100 on the rules then? If we are, can someone please repost them or provide me a link so I can start tuning my Camaro? Judging the rest don't forget, my judge's lap is already submitted and approved.

I'm waiting to hear back from Kent about something before I create a final rules proposal - as soon as I hear from him, we'll be good to start finalizing things! 👍

I just sent CLS a PM. 👍
Also, I'm wondering what's going on here... Looks like there is already a set idea of what is going to happen, who's doing what, etc etc...

All's good but I can't say I'll be in on anything until I know what I'm signing up for...

Further, I do plan a TCv3 some time soon but I'm very interested in getting everything right and so there's no rush on getting things started.

With that in mind... I've been throwing around the idea of a touge monster... If such a concept were applied to TCv2, what would be the best cars from GT4 to represent each of the classes?
FWD= (no idea yet) (maybe spoon Civic?)
RWD= Obviously the Amuse R1
AWD= (stumped again) (maybe the R-tune GTR R34?)

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks Kent! 👍 I'll compile all the suggestions into a final rules proposal tomorrow, and if it meets with general satisfaction, we can all go ahead and start tuning and hunting for judges! The competition won't officially start until VTC ends on Wednesday, March 12, but a head start never hurts :sly:

<edit> for the sake of the sanity of whomever compiles the entries at the end of the submission period, I'm going to suggest we wait to make any submissions until the competition actually begins. With the VTC, it was quite ... interesting ... combing through thirty pages of posts to gather all the cars :scared:

And Kent, would you like us to host this one in its own thread, or would you like us to stay in the Tuner Garages thread?

i know i am not an official for this but please make it a separate thread so we dont get lost through all the pages in the VTC.

Not a bad idea LOL... we did rack up QUITE a few pages over the course of TCv2 and the VTC! God... has to be close to 50 pages

OK good, I look forward to hearing the rules. I might try and help run it, but if someone better equipped can do it by all means- be my guest.

How long is this next tuner cup going to be? So-called "Touge-influenced" competitions shouldn't last three months apiece. What I mean to say is that it would be a good idea of have smaller cups of fewer people, more frequently.

If it was a real touge competition, obviously not.

Though seeing as this is a videogame-based competition on an internet message board involving competitors who have lives and have to work their hobbies around that, it can't just be a one-week deal if we want a good slate of entries. There's got to be some time for submission.

That said, with the panel judge system in place, the judging phase will take much less time - we're looking at a theoretical reduction of almost half the length.

Spoon Civic, Spoon Civic!! :D:lol:

i also prefer this tuner challenge being hosted here.., and besides, we're not making our own tuner garages, are we?? we're just submitting a few cars for our entries.., :sly:

man i can't wait for this to start.., if i should succeed here, i WILL create Touge Tuners Ltd. .., (see my sig) :sly::lol:

I think you'll be hard done by entering that Spoon, plus these entrants have to be your own tune- on every little detail. No settings borrowed from another tuner. See the problem? Just enter a normal EK Civic Type R or something and tune it your own way if you still want an EK Civic.

Ok - here's the skinny folks!

Kent has a full workup on Tuner Challenge v. 3 ready to go, which is a touge-based challenge. Seeing as how the touge element of our proposed challenge is the part receiving the most attention right now, and given that I'm going to be pretty busy with school the next month or two, we're thinking it's best if Kent hosts TCv3 after the VTC to satisfy the touge craving, and afterwards, we can proceed with the Budget Build Challenge with a Touge competition also involved if there's still interest! 👍

All that said, I'm gonna let Kent take it from here. 👍

Shows what you know, V8s are stronger than everything else out there. ;) I doubt I'll get any problems with it.
