If I remember correctly, you were one of those people last week.

And no one is being negative at the moment.
That's because today isn't the 9th. WARNING: Hype Trains self destruct sequence has been activated, negativity imminent. Core breach estimated in 50 hours.:D

edit:
My point was that you shouldn't be calling people out for something you do yourself. And a week, that's a very quick turn around.

I think you're being too harsh. Smurfy is just trying to keep everyone from being disappointed.

Software updates doesn't require server maintenance. These are for two things:

- Server software update, maintenance or changes to server capacity.
- Maintenance or changes to infrastructure (data-center, hardware related).

Including a new VGT, paint colors, other cars, tracks doesn't require maintenance. (well, it depends, tracks and cars maybe needs a counterpart in the server, it depends on how they built it).

We can follow two lines of thought:

1) Data center maintenance:

It happens and it doesn't depend on PDI. For instance, Microsoft Azure is giving a 5 hours maintenance in its Virtual Machines. I'll be affected when it's day 10. (I don't have any idea where PDI hosts its servers, otherwise we could just look up their schedule. Azure, Amazon or Sony's own server)

If it's it, then we have no hope.

2) Software changes on the sever:

Usually we do all stuff on a development server. So we can test, manipulate data, test again and so forth. Then a few days before a release things are posted to the production server. Where you can test things again and see how they are going to behave before allowing users to do so.

Those updates from development server to production server should be fast and (at least where I work) I doesn't take more than 5 minutes when it's relate only to update the server application (exe, dll). When it's on a database it can take more time when creating a table or fields (it all depends on your infrastructure and number of users. GT has a few ). And finally when it's related to changing server capacity or even the server itself, it takes a loooooot longer.

If I could bet, I would bet it's the last one: Server capacity changes to support a more demanding software. If it has community features it is justified.

Kaz already said he was testing the new Course Maker, and it was a while ago. Recently he said it was giving them more trouble than expected. What justifies the long period of testing.

If it's not day 9 we are getting it. It's really close.

When is the FIA conference ?

8th - 10th http://www.fia.com/

edit: The FIA's recent newsletter that talks up the upcoming FIA sport conference makes a number of mentions of making motorsport more accessible, as well as elsewhere mentioning last years announcement of Collaboration with Sony/PD. But it doesn't actually give anything away, or mention GT/PD/Sony/Kaz in anyway this time around.

This is what you just did:

Keep me posted about this conference... I want to hear about the new access. Even if its not GT related. :dopey:

PoDi was present during the FIA conference in 2014. It was a suprise.

Maybe we'll know more this year? :)
I can already see the headlines. lol "FIA coming to Gran Turismo in Spring 2016."

Yes and ? It changes nothing ;)
It changes everything. There's no such a thing as coincidence, at least not for two days kkkk

If it is a data center maintenance, so PDI has nothing to do with it. Then we shouldn't expect anything.

Of course, hope never dies! :D:(

On the official site : At the following time we will perform maintenance on the servers for Gran Turismo 6.

And this is not the same timing....

This could only be one thing PD/Evolution Studios Merger

Its happening

Merger, no. Major update to PSN sounds more like it.

The FIA thing is a good bet. There was a statement about FIA involvement coming summer 2015. Also, as I mentioned in the coursemaker thread, the coursemaker is essentially useless without the ability to post and share your courses. We cannot share anything but pictures at the moment, so that is a big reintroduction to the game.

We shall see.

2 large maintenance periods could suggest that we will get a lot of new content but of course there's no guarantees. Yet, it may very well be spec 2.0 were are looking at here afterwards

It's a Sony server maintenance. Everyone is affected, not just PD.
